Thursday Fiction 402: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She was tired but she couldn't leave the bathroom in a mess, if someone was to see all that blood, they would sure know what she had done. At least that's what her mind told her. She had to hide that this part of the plan went fine until she was to get to the second part: Meeting with the impostor.

She threw the toilet paper covered in blood in the toilet. At least her nose had stopped bleeding in the process so there was no feeding the mess anymore. Then cleaned the sink and the floor and the side of the bathtub with the towel. Her pajama trousers also had stains. She spread cleaning product on every stain and decided to put them in the washing machine the next day.

She gave herself a quick hot shower, she was feeling cold with exhaustion and worried about losing too much blood. The aid-band on her wrist already felt funny as if she was still bleeding and taking a shower without wetting it was some kind of impossible mission.

She didn't have trouble to fall asleep that night.

“Isabelle, wake up, wake up,” Malik was shaking her.

Thursday Fiction 401: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Whatever this was, it was as dangerous outside than inside. It turned on itself and Isabelle was grateful for Nanurah to have gotten everything to her wrist. If she had ever had that ball out with bits in her head, who knew what sort of damage they would have done coming out of her brain.

The towel was damped with blood when she finally stop looking at the ball and placed it on the side of the sink. She needed to stop the blood now, everything was out. She started with the cut which was the most important. She disinfected with the rest of synthol she found in a drawer, it was sticky but it did the trick and put a large aid-band on it, and some gauze. It was still painful. She tried to move her fingers but the small motion throw electricity all the way to her shoulder.

She had to remind herself it wasn't a deep cut and that it would be back to normal in a few days not to panic. She then took of her pajama top and took care of the little holes the metal had left in the rest of her arm. They were very small and round but still bleeding or leaking some sort of yellow water. She put small aid-band on all of them too, just for the show. She had no one to show them too, of course, but looking at herself in the mirror she did not only look scary anymore, she looked like a warrior.

Thursday Fiction 400: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She looked at her wrist and at the blade wondering how Romulus had planed to help her get rid of whatever was in there. Had he also expected her to open her skin after Clara had looked for those things. They seemed to be moving, trying to go up her arm. It was now or never.

Isabelle took a deep breath and cut, just above the bump. It was painful. She concentrated mostly of not hitting a blood vessel but the blood started to flow out and she couldn't figure out if she had hit one or not. She let the blade fall on the floor and tried to stop the blood, pressing on the cut with her towel. That's when she saw it. The bump was getting smaller and the blood was mixed with another liquid, not red this one, it was grey and glittering.

“My robot blood,” Isabelle thought.

It looked like it was made of metal, she wondered what sort of damage metal could cause in her body. Maybe if her behavior was as erratic as her mother described it it wasn't her fault and actually caused by all the thing they had put in her. It flowed with the blood on her towel and then turned into a ball. Little pieces kept on coming toward it, some from higher in her arms through her skin away from the cut making small perforation wounds.

Thursday Fiction 399: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She pushed the mess in a corner, just in case someone was to come back knocking at the door. Then she took the blade between her thumb and index finger. It was small and sharp. She look at herself in the mirror. She looked frightening and frightened. She didn't even know if she was scared of herself or only of her reflection. The bump was on her wrist.

That was the place where all those teenagers trying to kill themselves cut. That was insane. Just thinking about it. If things turned wrong, they would all think it was a suicide attempt. Then they would have a good reason to make her brother the heir and to stop her from slipping to other universes. And who would believe her. People out of the alliance would think she was crazy for even thinking that she could travel to parallel universes and people in the alliance, most of them couldn't be trusted, especially if she was suspected of trying to kill herself. She sat on the side of the bath tube, a towel on her lap, slightly humidified on the up side.

“I can do this,” she said with a nasal voice. “This is the first step of the plan.”

Thursday Fiction 398: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

In the end, she was the one punished because it was taking her too long to say the damn words. It was hard when she was little and it grew even worse as she grew up. He had it easy saying sorry and she was getting more and more revengeful with the unfairness. Her mother was never sorry and rarely forgiving. And here it was, she acknowledged it. Isabelle wouldn't be forgiven for saying that uncle Henry's death was unnatural. Then so be it. That was one more thing she had to learn to deal with. Like everything she had learned in this family, it was all a lie.

She locked the door once again and change the toilet paper in her right nostril. There was blood all over the sink but she didn't want to take care of it now. Her wrist needed attention. If she didn't take care of it now, her resolve would fade. This was going to hurt and Isabelle wasn't really good with pain. She took her razor and pulled out the blade. It was more difficult than in the movies with those four blade super close shaving things they built these days but she was happy to get it out without cutting herself.

Thursday Fiction 397: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

This was a huge one. Her family was all about forgiveness, so much, that it made Isabelle sick just to think of it. When she was little whenever her or her brother did something wrong, they had to say they were sorry, no matter if they were sorry or not. Of course many many times over Isabelle suspected that Malik wasn't sorry even a tiny bit, to tell the truth there were many times when she wasn't sorry for beating him up either. But then the other one had to say that they forgave and that was the hard part. Isabelle never thought or felt like she could forgive straight away. Imagine he just broke her favorite toy, after she told him many times to leave it alone. He could even have done it on purpose for all she knew and she had no time to grieve. She had to say that she forgave him.

“He said he is sorry, you have to forgive him,” her mother would say releasing her brother and still holding her by the arm like the criminal child.

Because that's what she was. It didn't matter what her brother had done, if he said he was sorry he wouldn't be punished. But she would be punished for not forgiving him and there was not an ounce of apology on his face and she still had to forgive him or she was the bad guy. It was hard. It was hard just to say it because saying it without feeling it was lying and lying was also forbidden. She was forced to feel forgiveness when she just wanted to punch him, or she would be a liar.

Thursday Fiction 396: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“Not what's best for me, what's best for himself. Not what's best for you either and not what's best for this universe. You can delude yourself if you want, anyone willing to put Malik in charge needs to be out of his mind.”

“Your brother will do much better than you as an heir, your attitude, even now with a bleeding nose is deplorable.”

“I'm sorry if I care more about my own pain and leaking blood than about courtesy right now.”

“It's impossible to talk to you, but hear me clearly. If you slip into another world one more time without my agreeing to it, I'll make sure this is your last trip,” her mother said.

“I can see how that deeply serve my best interest,” Isabelle answered, “I would have thought the imposter should have been the one with a death sentence on her head.”

“I'm not going to kill you,” her mother said looking offended.

“Just like you didn't kill uncle Henry either,” Isabelle answered.

Her mother took a step further, her eyes shouting daggers.

“There are things that even a mother can't forgive,” she said and she turned around not giving Isabelle a chance to reply.

Thursday Fiction 395: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“I was nowhere,” Isabelle said.

I told you that some universes would make you sick, didn't I?” her mother said.

“Yes, you did but I wasn't anywhere. If you'd care about me being sick, you would be trying to help, instead of questioning me.”

“You have been lying twice tonight. The first time I let it passed but this time I won't.” Her mother said.

“Do you know how many times I have had a nose bleed in my life?”

Her mother didn't answered she just stood in the doorway staring. Isabelle shook her head making her headache worse and hoping that getting whatever the tracker was made of out of her brain didn't damage it in the process.

“Once, tonight, that's the one, and it's scary and if you really cared you'd know that.”

“I care, I know you consider that I am your enemy but I am your mother and I'm trying to do what's best for you, even if you can't see that,” her mother said, pretending to reach for her.

She had her hurt face on, the one she put on when she wanted to play the victim. It was all Isabelle's fault again for not seeing that whatever she was doing was so wrong, and hurting everyone, especially her poor mother.

“I'm sure Mike agrees with you,” Isabelle said as the blood leaked through the paper piece she had put in her nose. It was only the right nostril now, the same side as the bump on her wrist. She couldn't wait for her mother to leave, to get rid of it. She already felt her resolve vanning.

“He is a good man and he too wants what's best for you,” her mother said.

Thursday Fiction 394: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Isabelle put some toilet paper in her nose to contain the bleeding. It was bleeding a lot. She had no reference of what was normal for a nose bleed but it was still bleeding a lot and her head was pouncing in her temples.

“Isabelle what the hell are you doing in the bathroom,” her mother again.

Isabelle opened the door brusquely, better to deal with her now.

“I have a headache and my nose is bleeding. Can you just calm down? I should be the one freaking out.”

“Where have you been?”

Isabelle sighed.

“Yes, mother, I'm fine and I'll be able to deal with it on my own and go back to bed, thank you so much for your concern.”

Her mother hated to be called mother, she wanted to be called mum, even in front of people to show how close she was to her children. Such a joke. Her mother straightened herself.

Isabelle turned around to take care of her nose, trying not to look at her wrist, trying not to draw her mother attention to it. She removed the toilet paper and rise her face before preparing a new one. Her mother still hadn't moved, waiting for Isabelle to be done with the blood.

“So where were you?” She finally asked again, arm crossed in front of her chest.

Thursday Fiction 393: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

They slipped back to Nanurah-Isabelle's universe, the colors were still weird and distracting, Isabelle wondered if she would ever get used to them.

“If you come often, you might,” Nanurah-Isabelle said.

“Yes, I guess so.”

Isabelle took a deep breath. She needed to go back to take care of her bloody nose and of those things in her wrist, before her mother could figure out she had slipped again.

“Just, go,” Nanurah-Isabelle said, “you know where to find me.”

Isabelle slipped a long way through tunnels of colors before getting back to the place where she could see the universes. She stepped out of the universe of Genel. Oris wasn't too far. She was curious to see if Romulus would still be there. Obviously he didn't mind the intrusion of Clara's Romi, or maybe he actually liked to share her with his other self, gross. Isabelle shook her head and opened her eyes in her bathroom. There were dropped of blood all around the floor and on her pajama. Nose bleed first. She still pushed at the things on her wrist to make sure none of them were going back where they came from. It would be annoying to have Nanurah back here to find them, it had been weird enough the first time.

PARALLEL SLIP: REBEL Snippets List

Hello Guys and welcome to PARALLEL SLIP: REBEL.
On this page you will find the description of the second book in the Parallel Slip Series and a list of all the blog posts from this blog featuring the novel. Rebel came about when trying to understand who those people who can slip through different universes are. I wanted to give Frederique's story a different dimension and Isabelle came with her own story.
Enjoy!

Parallel Slip: Rebel
(WIP)
Book Two

Isabelle is stuck. She wants to be able to travel from universes to universes but her mother believes her younger brother is more fit for the succession than she is. She doesn't know what she is doing wrong, everything she does pisses her mother off, nothing is ever good enough while her brother can do no wrong even when he breaks the rules.
But it seems that she has some allies, some directly in front of her, who might want to hurt her mother more than they want to help her. Others, unexpected, met through the randomness of parallel slipping.

Thursday Fiction 392: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“Just one arm left, we can do this.” Isabelle thought loud enough to get Nanurah to hear her.

The circle traveled along her neck and down toward her shoulder then through her arm. It was even slower than before. Either Nanurah was really getting super sick or she had trouble to carry everything she had. Isabelle wonder what it was anyway. Something able to travel with her to different universe while staying in her body. That didn't make much sense.

“It's all in your wrist. I don't know how to take them out from here,” NaNurah-Isabelle said.

Isabelle opened her eyes to have a look, there was a huge bump in her inner wrist, it could have looked like a little cyst but it wasn't. It was something her mother had done to her.

“I think I know,” Isabelle said. “But we better get you home first.”

“Are you sure you don't want me around for support?” Nanurah-Isabelle said.

“Thank you but you have done enough and I know you need some rest before celebrating getting your name,” Isabelle answered. “I'll come back to visit you tomorrow, I can now that I can  take the tracker out of me.”

Thursday Fiction 391: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

There are other like me, that you visit, why aren't they all called Isabelle?” Nanurah asked.

“Because sometimes parents decide to chose between several names and the same name doesn't always win, it depends of the universe.”

“I'm going to leave those things here and go through your head,” Nanurah said.

“That's scary,” Isabelle answered.

“Just breath,” Nanurah said.

Isabelle was glad that it wasn't Clara doing it. She even wonder why Clara hadn't done it seeing how she liked to infiltrate every aspect of her personality.

“It's not in your mind, it's in your body and attached to your mind. I'm not sure I can explain right.”

Pain filter through the left of Isabelle's head, deep and sharp, her heart started racing.

“I'm sorry, I need to get them all back down,” Nanurah said, “There is even more here than in the rest of your body.

Isabelle didn't answered she closed her eyes tighter wondering how her mother could have done this to her, but in a way that was a stupid question. It wasn't about if her mother love her, it was about control and her mother liked control a lot more than her own daughter. Her nose started bleeding. Her nose never bled.

“I think I'm getting sick,” Nanurah said.

“Me too,” Isabelle answered trying to ignore the tickling feeling near her upper lips.

“I'm almost done,” Nanurah said.

Thursday Fiction 390: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Isabelle put the pendent in her left hand and concentrated to grabbing all the little details of it in her mind. Finally, after a few minutes, she manage to feel her pulse in her hand. Then a wave propagated inside her finger tips.

“I'm in, it's true your world is all different,” Nanurah said. “Let me take care of your little problem first.”

The wave propagated along Isabelle's arm as if a circle passed true her arm to scan it. It reached her shoulder and became bigger as her heart rate increased. It moved down her body, so slowly that Isabelle didn't notice it has moved until it reached her stomach. It was pushing the blood down and her heart rate become erratic. She tried to breath slowly through her nose but that wasn't helping. She was feeling vaguely faint. Then the circle decreased again to go through one leg and the blood at least partially came back up and her head cleared a bit. But still nothing felt weird or out of place. She wondered if the tracker was really something in her body.

“It is!” Nanurah-Isabelle said. “It's full of little pieces. I'm sorry I made you uncomfortable but I need to go everywhere to make sure it's all gone.”

The circle moved back up her leg and down the next. It was a strange feeling but it wasn't all that bad. Not like having Clara inside of her. She still couldn't believe how vulnerable and exposed she had felt.

Thursday Fiction 389: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“That must be a hard place to live in,” Nanurah-Isabelle answered. “Imagine that roots are growing at the back of your spine, large roots entering the ground, very strong and very thick.”

The roots were strange, a melange of the roots Isabelle new, the brown from the oak tree in the garden, very strong and dark and then part of them were white and they seemed to carry light and Isabelle realized those were her other self's version, the roots in her world also had a different colors. Isabelle was a spectator as the roots coming down from both their spine broke the hill under her other self and broke the floor tiles in her bathroom straight through the next floor. They were going down and down to the center of the planet and the further down they went, the more Isabelle relaxed and felt safe. The roots rolled and gripped at the planet core as if to embrace it.

“Good, now that we are grounded, I need you to focus on something in your world, something that you like and that you can hold in your hand.”

There wasn't much in the bathroom that fit the description. Isabelle opened her jewel box and took a pendant out. It was made of an upside down pyramid shaped green stone. She wasn't sure what stone. Her father gave it to her a while back, before he was kicked out of the house.

“That will do,” Nanurah-Isabelle said. “Now focus on it, visualize it in your mind and try to feel the pulse in your hand while holding it.”

Thursday Fiction 388: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

She didn't even flush after vomiting.

“I'm you, you are me, we should be fine.”

“Then what do we do?”

“Imagine we are holding hand and close your eyes. It's easier if you are sitting on the ground.”

On the bathroom floor, Isabelle shifted and sat on the floor, whipping her face, still damp from earlier. She realized that she hadn't been out all that long. Maybe they had a chance to do something before her mother came back running after her.

“Don't let your thoughts get scattered,” Nanurah-Isabelle said.

That was going to be a difficult one but Isabelle placed her hand as if her other self was sitting in front of her and concentrated on her voice.

Then she remembered the fear. What if other universes were really as dangerous as the alliance said, what if Nanurah came here to replace her.

“Maybe we shouldn't try,” Nanurah-Isabelle said.

“Yes please, I want to do that, just I can't control my thoughts too easily, they run wild all the time.”

“But you don't trust me.”

“I don't trust anyone, not even myself,” Isabelle said.
