Vlog #88: Tour of the Mirai Store (Smart Dolls!)

Today I have something really special for you. Something I was asked for but also something I meant to do for a while: Visit the Mirai Store!
I found out that the Mirai store was near Shinagawa (yes, not Akihabara duh!) So since I had to go to Shinagawa to get my visa paper work done, I decided to take the opportunity to stop at the Mirai store at the same time.
It was my first time at the Mirai store and it was sort of my first time seeing smart dolls from so close. I mean I saw them at doll events before but there was always to many people for me to get close to them enough to have a detail look and take good picture.
Well today was my lucky day. The Mirai Store has a lot of doll exposed in all shape, color and with different outfit and I could take as many pictures as I wanted.
I also wanted to talk to Danny Choo but I had a heavy crisis of shyness and didn't figure out how to introduce myself. I guess I was also a bit starstruck. I'll try to do better next time. (I still have to go back to pick up my visa, hehe)
I'm still not sure which Smart Doll I want (all of them? :) ). But for some reason Ikki was really interested in knowing which one I like the best... he didn't take notes though so I'm not sure what he meant by that. (Yes, he generally takes notes, then I end up with giant teddy bears...)

Anyway guys, I hope you enjoy this video. I'll have the pictures uploaded on my facebook page too so you can have a better look.
Please subscribe, I still need a few more subs for my channel to be safe!

New Year's Day Lucky Bag from the Azone Store!

As usual on New Year's Day, we went to the Azone store to pic up some lucky bags. I was unfortunately too late for the 1/6, 1/12, assault Lily bag but I managed to get the Azone 50cm bag, so a lot of new stuff for Aane who is definitely my most spoiled doll.
And I also got the Happy New Year Maya regular version. I will get hopefully the limited doll show version at the doll show next week.
We also went to Suruga-ya, it was my first time in their physical store and I got Nendoroid Vocaloid Kaito. I always thought he was super cute and he was kind of cheap so I couldn't resist. Anyway, enjoy the video.

NaNoWriMo Vlog Day 22: THE WIN!

In this video I talk about winning NaNoWriMo by reaching 50k words.
I also show you the winner page with all the goodies and so you can see what happens when you win.
At first the damn NaNoWriMo word eating monster of hell actually eat my words like 247 words less than on my writing software so I had to add a few more to get the win.
In this video you'll see the fail at validating my word count the first time and the final win.
Enjoy!

Here is the video

Complete Isul History (with video)

Today we are going to dive in the short history of Isul. I think Isul is one of the most Kawaii character in the pullip family, I absolutely love him and I hope to one day have all of him. I wasn't that far and then I didn't manage to get the last 4 yet.

Enjoy!

Complete Dal History (with video)

Let's continue our little series down the time line of some of our favorite dolls.
Today we are browsing through Dal History.
Dal is Taeyang's crazy younger sister and she is also Pullip's fashion rival.
Enjoy the cuties!

Tour de shelves, my doll collection

It has been a while since the last Tour de shelves. Actually, the last one was before I moved from Fuchu so that was last February and you guys haven't seen the dolls at this new place.
I have two huge pullip shelves and a small one and I have one shelves for Azone dolls and ball-jointed dolls and some of the dolls actually stay at other places near my desk. It's a little bit crazy.
I know that I still have some place for more pullips on those shelves even if it looks really crowded but I'm running out of space for my Sahra's a la mode and my excute especially.
I could always tidy up the lil'fairy shelf and remove the doll house but I don't really want to. I might add a new shelf later on near the small pullip shelf.
Anyway, here is a tour of my doll collection so far, Enjoy!

21/365 Shabu-shabu

We went to eat a Shabu-shabu at a local Chinese restaurant. It was a sort of celebration for my first payment from google. Of course, Hibarichan was invited. She loves to eat all my food.

Vlog #65 Wedding photos shooting day (with video)

Today was our wedding photo shooting day. As you already know we don't have a wedding party or ceremony or anything like that but we still decided to get the photos taken in traditional clothes: Western style and Japanese style.
We started very early with a photo session in the studio with western style clothes. It was a lot of fun. Ikki's parents and younger sister were there. It was a lot of pausing and a lot of forced smiles. Se took pictures with Ikki's parents who apparently weren't aware that they would have to go on pictures and also with Hibarichan which was too funny for words.
Then I went through another change of hair style. The first hair style took a long time while putting on the dress took a minute. The second hair style was really fast done but putting on the kimono took a really long time and actually required two persons to put it on me. It's very complicated and takes so much layers of clothing that I doubled in size. The kimono was really heavy and it was as hard to breath in it then in the western style corset. I was asked if I was alright every few minutes as if they were expected me to faint but I was fine. It was a really nice experience. We have pretty nice pictures which should be sent to us in a few weeks so I'll make another video to show them to you.

Wonfes Winter 2017 in pictures (with pictures)

Yesterday I went to the Wonder Festival at Makuhari Messe. Wonder Festival or Wonfes, is an event for figures of all kind and some dolls. There are big companies like Good smile, Volks or Azone showcasting their future releases and there are also individual people selling some of their stuff or home made products.
This time, I went there because I wanted the new Nendoroid Snow Miku Twinkle version. She is my first nendoroid. I was up for a late start and was worried not to make it before she went sold out but I still managed to get her and the Figma version too. I will be opening them in other video.
Wonfes is a very large event so it was a bit hard to record everything and to take pictures of everything but I did my best to cover as large a part as I could. I hope you enjoyed the video.

Let's make a doll house (Azone Lil'fairy homemade display) (with video)

Today, I finally decided to build my IKEA Greenhouse which I planned to use as a doll house for my lil'fairies.
It was super easy to build and only too minutes. Then I decided to use our old table to put the house and the previous diorama I made for my lil'fairies and to create a display. It was a lot of fun and I'm super happy with the result. It changes the a lot to have a display with the dolls doing cute stuff instead of just having my dolls on the shelves. So far that's the only display I have enough space for maybe in the future I'll find a way to have more.
I also like the fact that I could put all my lil'fairies together since now I have 14 instead of the 4, I planned on having at first.

Happy New Year dolls and Lucky Bags from the Azone store (with video)

Happy new year everyone.
This year again, Azone was doing the lucky bag at their store in the 1st of January. The store opened at 10am for the lucky bag only and then at 11am for the regular shopping.
The lucky bag was just a grab and go thing so I didn't have time to take pictures at all of the dolls in there.
In this video, I'm opening all my lucky bags for you. It turned out that it was one of each kind allowed by person so I got two azone 50cm bags and two pureneemo bags, because my boyfriend was with me. I was very lucky because I didn't get the same items in both bags.
The only thing that I'm a bit disappointed about is that the two Sahra's a la mode doll that I got were dolls that I already have so I'll probably sell them at some point.
I got really nice outfits for my dolls and two excute Lien and Miu which I probably would never have bought it it wasn't for the event.
I also had a lot of nice outfit for Amane, with a few double that I might sell later on too.

I also got the two happy new year 2017 dolls. Neily and Yuzuha. I like that Neily is a little rooster, with one of my doll dressed as sheep, that gives me the start of a lil'fairy zoo. I hope they'll have new animal outfits later.
I also like the buy the New Year dolls in Yukata because Yukata are generally expensive so that's a normal price doll with an expensive outfit.
I dressed Amane in out of the outfit I got for her. She is my most spoiled doll. I have so many azone 50cm clothes now and just the one doll.

Here are some pictures

Christmas update! (with video)

I finally managed to make my Christmas update video because it's the middle of the day, literally and I'm out of my hibernation, at least for the moment.
This year for Christmas, my boyfriend decided that it was going to be all camera improvement. I guess that was pretty good. So I got the light I need in case I need to film at night or take pictures indoor on a cloudy day. I have extra battery for my camera because I'm always either forgetting to charge the battery or forgetting to take it out of the battery charger before going out. He also got me a remote controller so I'll be able to stop and start the video again, which is pretty good since he also got me a new card that can film for 11 minutes at a time 8 times before getting full so I'll be able to make videos a lot more efficiently without needed to empty the card 3 times per video, not even kidding on this one.

Then I also got a few present from Angela from Omocha Crush. You can check her channel here. It was pretty sweet of her to send me something.

Then on Christmas day I had to go for a quick trip to the azone store, sorry no pictures as I rushed out of my house so fast I didn't even bring my camera. I managed to get Alisa Aquamarine from the Sahra's a la mode, twinkle a la mode series. I'm pretty happy with that since she is the most limited of them all and would have been super hard to get.

Vlog #50 My birthday

As the title said, it's my birthday so we went to sweet paradise for dinner. That's basically a all you can eat restaurant and this time they also had all you can eat pizza but you have to order them one after the other and it wasn't really worth is with all the cake and pasta. Sweet paradise is always a lot of fun and they have a lot of different cake and you can eat all of them.
Of course Hibaricha too wanted her piece of cake and I also brought Alisa with me because I think I needed at least one of the sweet sweet girl to visit sweet paradise.
Then I'm also showing you my birthday present from Ikki, I ordered a bjd for myself but she is not here yet as I asked for a lot of clothes with her and ordered her a bit too late to have her on time, still, I'll show her to you when she arrives.

Pullip Face up How to: The making of my mini me (with video)

I worked on the face up of my MIO pullip mini me.

I am probably not the best artist but creating dolls is something I like and it's a lot of fun for me to do. I'm using brushes to apply the dry pastel powder, a large one for the blush and a smaller one for the details. I use the very big brush to clean up the powder remaining.
I use some water color pencil to add some darker color and texture to the lips, to draw the eyebrows, the contour of the eye and the eyelashes.
I didn't plan to color the eyelids purple but when I started working on them I just figured that it would be a good idea as I wants to add some purple to my mini me but didn't really know where to.

After the introduction, you will see me work in music in accelerated movie and then the final result is presented on the pictures at the end of the video.

I already have two videos about the MIO kit (Make in Own) also known as Face&body (if you want to look it up on amazon Japan): The first one explain what a mio kit actually is, the second show me designing my mini me.

Tokyo toy show 2016

Last week until yesterday the Tokyo Toy Show was taken place in Ariake and I went there yesterday to see a bit what it was all about. I have to say seeing the huge amount of space dedicated to the toy show I was expecting a lot more things to be there. Still it was a lot of fun to walk around and to check all the cute stuff. I spent quite some time around the Sylvanian Family and I even manage to win an Marupaka plush.
Here is the photo video.
And here is the photo album from facebook.

Doll Show 45 Winter!

Yesterday, I went to the Doll Show 45 Winter. It was the first doll show in Ikebukuro. I think it's nice that it's close to a big center because that gave a choice of activities and restaurants after the doll show.

The first thing I did was to go to the Azone booth and queue to get Alisa. I was the only person queueing with no items in hand and that might have looked suspiscious because a guy came to talk to me with a ticket and Alisa on it. This was the last ticket and I needed it if I wanted Alisa. I was like Ok, but he didn't seem to understand me so another guy came over and tried and mix of Japanese English that didn't go much better. I mean they didn't understand me in Japanese or in English. In the end, the new guy just took the ticket from the first guy and gave it to me. And off I went to get my Alisa.  My ticket was nuber 74 and I got the very last Alisa. The girl at the counter had trouble to find her so the first guy came to the rescue. That was intense and fun.

Now I have both, just like in the picture. They always look so cute together.
Then I checked out some of the azone clothes. I really should have bought some because they were a lot cheaper than usual but I didn't. The thing is I had planned on buying the little prince Isul at the Azone Store afterwards. Except he wasn't there but I got a lucky bag instead, so two dolls for the price of one. Anyway, that's another story.
The Sunshine building in Ikebukuro has a very large room so the doll show was on one floor instead of 4. I'm not sure if it was much smaller or the same size but it was definitely crowed and it was more difficult to move around. There were some of the usual company missing, like the guy who makes the steampunk stuff and Groove. I was really disappointed by Groove not being there because I really wanted to see the new dolls in the Alice in Steampunk World series. I'll see them when they are out I guess.
Here are some pictures of the doll show. Enjoy!

How to win NaNoWriMo: The unmotivated procrastinator version (tips and tricks)

I just won NaNoWriMo for the seventh year in a row (not even counting the JaNos.., the JuNos..., the camp NaNos... etc, etc... ). I know that totally sounds like I'm showing off but I don't think anyone should read a list of tips from someone who haven't been there and mind you I do have bragging rights. So here you'll find all the tips and tricks you really need for next year or NaNoFiMo if you want a new try as soon as possible.

If you want the regular set of tips for beginners and people who don't feel ready to totally unleash their crazy side. Go see this post, that's what I used once upon a time when I really wanted to win but wasn't sure I would. If you are more adventurous, keep on reading.

But first a picture of my stat for this year. Crazy, write.
1) Don't write every day.
I know I'm starting strong with the bad advises and that most people are going to want to kill me. Because you know you want to create good writing habits. And writers write and all that stuff. Well, see I didn't write every day and I still made it. I see people all around despairing when they miss a day, overdoing the catch up without a plan and just plain freaking out and give up. I mean why continue with the game when you've missed so many days that every one is telling you that you'll fail, you'll never win and you're not a writer anyway cause writers write.
Well, here is the opposite side of the story, write when you can and if you can't you'll deal with it later, enjoy what you're doing now and stop thinking about the words.

2) Finish your idea.
The idea is there, you are writing, the words are flowing, don't care about the word count, write it all, NOW. Write until you're out of juice. Yes, tomorrow it will be harder to start again because all your ideas are already on the page. Well, too bad but you needed those words yesterday too so who cares. When it's here, go and use it. Tomorrow well, that's tomorrow's problem not todays.

3) Edit as you go.
I'm not telling you to erase anything, Erasing is strictly forbidden! If you are going to erase something just don't come and complained to me, you've been warned. But add stuff in the middle. Add paragraph of description, add feelings and colors and tastes and smell to your characters and places. Add some narrative in between the dialogue part, add add add. It's not so much as to edit the story but more as since you've run out of juice at point 2), you need a new writing starting point.

4) Write what you can.
Even if it's a 50 words day, get that sentence written. I know I hate it because 1666 words is a bad number enough already. 1666 is not a winner's number. Writing a daily 1666 words is a real pain. I can't write that little on a daily basis. I need a minimum of 2500 and even that has a tendency to be too little to keep me going. But you're procrastinating so hey any words are better than nothing. I had some very small days but they still counted toward the goal.

5) Learn maths.
If you don't hate me yet, you're going to have to hate me now. The thing is NaNo is all about numbers, don't let the NaNo calculator tell you what you need to right, make your own plan. If it tells you you need 2341 words a day to finish on time, start at 2500 or 3000, round numbers are always better anyway, easier for the mind to grasp.

6) If you know you're gonna win.
Let's face it. If I had this attitude on my first NaNo, I'll still be in the pack of those wondering how anyone can write 50k a month. The thing is I knew I was going to win again because I don't take anything less than victory.
Sorry for the people struggling with it but for some of us, it's a walk on the beach.

Special doll show 43

Yesterday I went to the doll show 43 in Hamamatsucho. We arrived at the opening time around 11 am and left 3 hours later when I ran out of battery for my camera and we finished to visit the 4 floor.

My main point in going to the doll show was that I wanted to get the new limited  lil' Fairy Vel sold there exclusively. I wanted to see the new pullip Alura of course and Uranus and Neptune from their Sailor Moon collection and I wanted two wigs for boys/ I got only one for my Namu which will probably look weird with his traditional Chinese Fung Fu outfit, which means sewing more for me to get him new clothes, but I couldn't get a black wig for my Taeyang MIO kit. This is so hard to find, I'll have to check etsy.

Anyway enough about me. The show was awesome. I started with getting Vel first thing and that was good thinking, I think she was sold out when I left. While queuing I walked through the azone expo, with the new Kikipop prototype and the new Ex cute series and the big Madoka 50 cm.
Then I went through all the floors, took pictures, answered a questionnaire about Pullip to get free goodies. It was forbidden to take picture of the Pullips exposed but seriously, they have a new Alice in Steampunk World coming quite to die for (two pullip and a Dal) and there were a lot of pullips exposed, probably prototypes for the future, a new black and red Alice series with the cutest Cheshire cat, traditional costume, fancy fashion costumes, it was awesome. I voted for an Isul with crazy hair. You can see a little bit of them on the last picture which I edited.

It was better than the winter session. I think. Maybe because it was my second time around and I knew what to except a little better, maybe because it was easier for me to relate to big dolls now that I have one. I'll show you the unboxing of Amane some Saturday, if you can't wait until the schedule reach this blog, you can always go see the pictures here

Anyway, here are the pictures of the doll show, enjoy.
As they are a lot of them, they are embed from my Facebook page album. If you have a problem viewing them, please go to the Facebook page for Doll and Amigurumi

Why I love Earthquakes even if that might make me a terrible person

A few weeks ago, I was complaining about having nothing to write about on Saturdays. That's still sort of true, but at the time two persons gave me a topic. The first was "Life in Japan" and you can find the resulting crazy post here, It's called "Life in Japan or why I might never be an adult but I don't care"
The second topic was Earthquakes, probably due to the fact that I shared Earthquake as a facebook status several times that day. The thing is as I lost the habit to have a post on Saturdays it took me all that long to get this one done. Lame! I know! But anyway here you go, my relationship with Earthquakes.

I think I first discovered Earthquake in SVT class. For the non french person out there SVT means Science and Life of Earth and that's the sort of Equivalent to Biology class with some tectonics added to it. I'm not talking about the music here, I'm talking about:
Tectonics (from the Late Latin tectonicus from the Greek τεκτονικός, "pertaining to building")[1] is concerned with the processes which control the structure and properties of the Earth's crust, and its evolution through time. In particular, it describes the processes of mountain building, the growth and behavior of the strong, old cores of continents known as cratons, and the ways in which the relatively rigid plates that comprise the Earth's outer shell interact with each other. Tectonics also provides a framework to understand the earthquake and volcanic belts which directly affect much of the global population. Tectonic studies are important for understanding erosion patterns in geomorphology and as guides for the economic geologist searching for petroleum and metallic ores.
(Thanks Wikipedia)
You got it? Sounds like fun?
Well sure it was. I was in love with plates tectonics. I was Acing every single test and I can probably explain to you why we have Earthquake so often in Japan. If you ask, are you asking? Really?
So here you go. The planet is not a uniform ball made of dirt, surprise, surprise. It's actually pretty complicated. It's made of several layers. At the very center you have a ball of iron, pretty hot stuff. Then it's cover with magma, which is rather liquidish and viscous and hot like hell and like to go out to the surface through volcanoes. And then you have the crust. If you really want a picture to visualise it, in your hand take a ferero rocher and slip it in two. Don't eat it yet, I need to explain first!
So what interest us today are the Earthquake and the guilty part involved are the magma, because it moves and the Crust because it's broken.

The core of the planet is really hot so the magma at the bottom is pretty hot too, everything hot want to go up to the magma at the bottom be like:
Magma at the bottom 1 : "Hey, it's so hot in here, let's get some fresh air."
Magma at the bottom 2 : "Sure I'll go with you!"
They both go up pushing the rest of the colder magma to the side. At the mean time the magna at the top feels rather cold so:
Magma at the top 1 : "Hey, it's so cold in here, let's get downstairs a bit, I didn't say hello to iron core for a while."
Magma at the top 2 : "Sure I'll go with you!"
They pretty much always agree with each other on the temperature. See I found you a picture to illustrate. The motion of the magma is called convection.
Now if you look closely at the picture, they called something the Lithosphere, that's what we have been calling crust all along. There are two different types of crust. One is made of basalt, it lies under the oceans. The other is the continental crust and I'm not telling you what it's made of because you don't want to know or at least it's irrelevant for the topic. The only thing you need to remember is that the oceanic crust is lucky us heavier than the continental crust.

Are you still with me here? If not just complain in the comments.

So we have the magma moving under our feet and under the crust. So of course the crust is slipping on it. Let's analyze the possibilities of the different plaque of crust hitting each other:
1) Oceanic crust hit Continental crust.  The Oceanic crust being a lot heavier, it will go down, enter the magma under the continental crust and be liquefied by the hotness of the magma. Then the Continental crust goes up and you got mountains like Cordillera de los Andes.
2) Oceanic crust running away from Oceanic crust (yes they are scared of each other) There are a little part in between them where the magma comes up to cool down in the middle of the sea (that makes sea volcanoes, pretty cool)

3) Continental crust hit Continental crust. We got mountains, like the Himalayas! (Sorry, I haven't been there yet.)

SO WHAT IS HAPPENING IN JAPAN?

Japan doesn't have 2 plates fighting each other under it's feet, it has 4:  The Philipine plate, the north American plate, the Pacific plate and the Eurasian plate. And like that's not even enough, part of the plates themselves are kind of unsure who they want to be with. So the Eurasian plate has the Amur plate and the Yangze plate refusing to behave the same way and so making more of a mess. And the Okhotskplates is not sure if it still wants to be part of America.
That's 6! See the problem here?

So yes, when one decide to move it's likely to wake up the others and so they all start moving which means we end up having earthquake pretty often. At first seriously I wouldn't even notice. It's a lot of few quick shakes and now I'm like : "Hey, Earthquake!" Like I can feel them in my body.

And I really think Earthquakes are pretty cool. For a minute or the length of the earthquake everything stop. People look at each other maybe thinking how long it will last, holding their breath and suddenly everything goes back to normal. It's like a small ride of checking ground.

Now I still have some pet peeves about the way earthquakes are described in movies.
1) Earthquakes are silent! There are no rawring coming from the depth of Earth. You won't hear the Earthquake coming for you. It's be shacking you first.
2) The house is not going to fall on your face! Ok, maybe sometimes it does if you are pretty unlucky and it's a big shake and your house is near the beach and there is a tsunami coming at you. But hey, if we talk about just shake here. During the March 11 Earthquake few years back I only had one thing falling of my shelves and  suspect that it was because it was able to roll. Of course, I saw a lot of shelve down in stores especially if you go up in the buildings. But the house won't fall on your face the instant the Earthquake starts and you'll have time to get out or stand near a wall or get under a desk. I think Earthquakes are a lot more destructive in places where people are not used to them. In Japan, it's pretty safe.

Don't freak at the Earthquake people, if you had as many people as the earth does walking on your face, I'm sure you'll want to quake them too from time to time.
