Dewey's 24 hours readathon (bouquinerie, and a bit of NaNoWriMo) with video

This weekend was the Dewey's 24 hours readathon. During the readathon I planned to read a lot of books. Of course I didn't manage to read that much.
The readathon normally takes place between 8am est on Saturday to 8am est of Sunday. However, that makes it 9pm in Japan. So that mean I should have been reading all Sunday.
The thing is, this Sunday was the 4th of the month, which means that it's Bouquinerie Sunday and I really wanted to go since I haven't been since June.
Then there was also my Sunday Write-in which ended up being a NaNo prep write-in... (more about that in the next video). So I didn't quite read as much as expected.
On a good day, (not during a readathon) I can still manage to read this much.

Book Review: A Song of Smoke and Fire by Megan Linski (with video)

Today I'm reviewing "A Song of Smoke and Fire" by Megan Linski.
This is the first book of her new series "Song of Dragonfire".
I got it as an ARC before the release but only got into reading it now.
It's a really nice story, though predictable. It has a lot of real element like the setting in Kraków, Poland.
You can see more about the setting and Kraków here on my blog post: Europe tour Interail 2006 : Kraków and the dragon hunting
So it takes roots in Polish folklore and at the same time it has other fantasy and fairy tales ingredient.
The predictable part for me was the love story though there are some twists to get there and the journey time of thing.
It was an entertaining read.

A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena (Book Review) #Spookathon #Readathon

Today, I'm reviewing: A Stranger in the House which was the read along book for #Spookathon.
This book is extremely poorly written with a lot of very annoying things.
First, the POVs are all over the place. You keep on jumping from one character to the next without real definition or break except a paragraph break and the paragraph can be very unrelated even in the same chapter.
Then you have the obvious lack of research and realism about the car accident's consequences on the main character's body which basically is a turning point in the story.
A lot of the characters body motion or action aren't realistic either and the prose tend to be repetitive especially with Tom.
And the list could go on...

So I had a lot of problem with reading this book since for the first 10 chapters all I could see was everything that was "wrong" in it. Then after that the plot start showing a bit better. So many my attention to the annoying detail faded or maybe the writing got better, I'm not sure. For a thriller, it was kind of predictable. But I guess the story is ok and there are some plot twists.
Then there is Tom. I think that I have never seen such a crappy character taking that much of attention. It was said that he was supposed to be on his wife side when all hell breaks lose and people think she is lying well, he wasn't. Tom is probably the worse husband a woman can get, like really and he is self absorbed, his worry about his wife going to jail is what that's going to do to him, after all he cheat on her on her first night there, then again. And she still manage to forgive him, like what the fuck, you're not even married to the idiot get your money girl and run, leave him to Brigit, seriously they deserve each other.

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (Book Review) #Spookathon #Readathon (with video)

The Girl on the Train is the last book that I read in full for #Spookathon
I had already watched the movie so I definitely had to read the book. There are a bit of differences but the movie actually follow the plot really well.

This book has three different POV in the first person in different chapters. So you always know who you are with. You follow three women on two different time line.

Rachel, the girl on the train, is an alchoolic, depressive, divorcé who is obsessed with her ex-husband and like to look at a house while on the train because she imagine the life of the people living in it.

Megan, is also depressed because she has a secret too heavy to carry. She is the type of hyperactive depressed person, sort of ation junky who would do anything not to think about the ghosts in her past. Basically, Megan and Rachel are exact opposite. One long for the past, the other can't avoid it enough.

Then there is very boring Anna who is like a version of who Rachel used to be and would have been if her life had turned out as expected.

Book Review: Doctor Sleep by Stephen King (with video) #Spookathon

I finished to read Doctor Sleep last night. I thought I would be scared but there was nothing scary about this book. It was good just not as mind blowing as expected.
Still, I have a few issues.First with who Dan actually is and if it's not a bit out of character for him to be an alcoholic in the first place.
Then I found myself having empathy for the bad guys and sort of not completely understanding why the "good" characters didn't have much. I mean I can't understand why at least one of the characters couldn't show of some empathy for the bad guys.
Then I have a bit of problem with the mass murder, probably as a result of having empathy for the bad guys.
I also have problems with Momo's death, I mean I went to analyse, Danny taking the cancer from her as being the same as how John Coffey takes the illness from other people in The Green Mile and use it later. There is the same sort of process, Dan, just like John is sick while transporting the cancer but Momo dies while the woman in The Green Mile survives which I feel is a bit unfair.
Then there is the problem of the true knot. In a way it feels like the book want to make us believe that they were created in the  boiler's explosion which would be why they need "steam" but in an other way some of the member are really old, like century old so they would have to have existed before the incident in The Shinning. Or maybe it's just the place where the hotel used to stand that is attracting people. I'm not sure but I feel like the origin of the True Knot wasn't really explain and in the same way, they apparently used to be 200 and then now they are 41 but we are also told that the death are super rare for them so, where did the 160 others disappeared. I mean is there a third book fighting them coming up in 30 years?
Are the one who left Rose the Hat really all going to die of the measles?
So many questions partially answered only. And it feels to me a bit inconsistent.

Nightmare Realisation by Carol Riggs (Book Review) #Spookathon (with video)

Today, I have for you the first review of Spookathon: Junction 2020 Nightmare Realisation.
This book is the second book in the series. I read it as an ARC but it's actually out now so you can go and grab it here.

In Junction 2020 a group of five adolescent go through a portal made to triangle to reach what is called a landscape.
The landscape is build of the nightmare and favorite things of one of them.
In this book, we are in Tony's landscape so we learn about Tony's past, his likes and dislike and the reasons behind all of his nightmare.
At the same time, our little group of friends, Mainworlders, also have to fight against the Shifters, people jumping from landscape to landscapes to catch the Mainworlders and get out of the landscape with them.
Tony is a very particular character because all of his fears are actually lethal which makes this landscape very dangerous. He is very different from Marie in multiple ways, including the fact that he is not really as brave and as smart. This book is interesting because it pushes the understanding of the landscape and Shifters a lot further.
It was an interesting read.

An Abundance of Katherines by John Green (Book Review) Turtles all the Way Down Countdown 2/4 (with video)

Today, I'm reviewing "An Abundance of Katherines."
This book is probably the lightest of all John Green's book even though it still tackles the big theme of the meaning of live. I think the main character is sort of depressed but it doesn't appears too much as a sad and overwhelming sort of depression like it does in his other books.
An Abundance of Katherines is a mixture between a road trip and a math problem which makes it a fun read. I think dating 19 Katherines even though possibly unpractical in real life is a funny concept.
The novel is enjoyable even though the ending feels a little rushed.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (Book review + Comparison with Persuasion by Jane Austen)

Today, I'm reviewing The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I think it was a good read. It was definitely an unexpected read.
There are several things through the book that keeps you on your toes, especially because the narrator is sort of biased in many cases.
We see the love story form in the present and in the past. In a way, Gatsby wanted to rewrite the past but all he managed to do was relive it and it didn't end well which was really sad. I sort of feel sorry for the guy really but this book also show the danger of building your entire life around another person.
I compare this book and especially the heroine behavior with the heroine from Jane Austen's persuasion. I think the book have a lot in common in the way the story is build even if Anne and Daisy behave in a complete opposite manner while facing the same problems.

Norwegian Wood by Murakami (Book review)

This book was so depressing. It took me forever to read it. I started when I finished "Kafka on the Shore". It was sort of hard to read because basically, nothing happens. It's like we follow this guy going to his daily student life. He is so amorph about everything that's happening around him that there is no exciting point. When he meets new people or do something there is never any excitement.
Basically, I didn't care about any of the characters. I think it's one of the rare books when I was happy to see a character finally disappear.
I mean there was no other point in Naoko's life than to die. Really.
I understand depressed and overly depressed but I don't understand her take on reality.
It seems like the entire purpose of the book was to show two different type of depression and two different type of way of going through life after the suicide of a loved one. On one side, we have Naoko who just can't get out of her own head. And on the other side, we have Toru who is nowhere near his until everything collapse. So I don't understand how she didn't care and I don't understand how he actually didn't.
I know that people love this book so I don't know why I was so bored reading it. Even the Storm Trooper, I didn't think that was funny.
I guess I came to this book after "Kafka on the shore" expecting it to be as mind blowing. Well, my mind wasn't blown.
And still, I think it's a good book. I think there are a lot of little things and construction in this book that makes it interesting. This book is really really weird.
Seriously, if you want to start on reading Murakami, don't make this your first book because you might never pick up another one and that would be a shame.

Demon Soul Chapter 12 part 1

Hello and welcome to a new vlog post of Demon Soul. Last time we had a reading, Sahel had grown up and despite the fact that everyone seemed to accept him a little bit more, things were not so good for his relationships with girls. I wonder if it's due to cross species relationship or just because it's hard being that age. Brownie was getting jealous of Daciana. But I think she is on the right track making food for her favourite demon.

Anyway, today we enter the long chapter 12 and that's why you'll only have part one, part two will be coming next week. Sahel has things to do before going to the Demon World to get his last power. I recorded this video a while back but it took be for ever to edit and upload it, I hope the rest of the book will go more smoothly.

Also, the beginning of Demon Soul is now available for free on Wattpad, here. I'm not sure yet how many chapters I will add, I guess it depends of the readers and comments, for the moment it's rather calm.

Anyway, let's enter chapter 12, I hope you'll enjoy.

Demon Soul chapter 11

If you are looking for the A-to-Z challenge, click here or scroll down.

Welcome to a new vlog post of Demon Soul. Last week our favourite little demon still had problems with his powers escaping during a terrible nightmare and scaring everybody around. Where you scared too? Or do you think you would have been as brave as Brownie and entered the room? Personally I think I would have hesitated a little, even if I know Sahel as well and maybe better than she does.

Today we are going to chapter 11.
Sahel has grown up and despite the fact that everyone seem to be ore or less all right with having him in the house and accept him a little bit more, things are not going so good for his relationships with girls. I wonder if it's due to cross species relationship or just because it's hard being that age.

I hope you'll enjoy.

Demon Soul chapter 10

Hi there and welcome to a new chapter of Demon Soul.
Last week I was a little bit busy between the A-to-Z challenge (if you are looking for it click here), Camp NaNoWriMo and LJ Idol.

This week I don't have to worry about LJ Idol any more, I still have to write 100k words this month for Camp NaNo and a daily post for A-to-Z but that's nothing that can't forbid me to post a video.

As I didn't do anything last week today the video is double time. Well not really just chapter 10 is pretty long compared to the other chapters so the video is obviously longer to.

Anyway I hope you'll enjoy. There is a lot happening in my fantasy world, you'll also meet a new character but I'll leave you the surprise.

Demon Soul chapter 9

Hi there and welcome to a new chapter of Demon Soul.

Last week we had an earthquake and Brownie freaking out because she wasn't able to do anything to help Sahel through his Earth power. Hopefully, Gideon was there with some very special magic to save the day and Sahel recovered very quickly. Then he had to move to the babies' room which wasn't really his cup of tea especially with Yobi "righteously" doing mischief.

This week they are going out for a bit of fresh air.... but going out with a demon means trouble.

The new edition of Demon Soul arrived on Monday night and I'm happy with the quality. It's the first hard cover version. I earned it with my last win of NaNoWriMo last November from lulu.com. The only problems I see with it are the colour on the cover which changed from the colour printed with CreateSpace and the size of the page number. Maybe I'm just being a bit excessive, but I like everything to be perfect. Anyway having a hard cover version is not on the top of my to do list so it will probably wait a bit for me to make a decision.

I also made a Grenadine doll. It's about time I get all my characters out there. That's the seventh doll and they are all available at Mes crazy experiences etsy store.

Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy today's chapter!

Demon Soul chapter 8

Hi there and welcome to a new chapter of Demon Soul.

Last week Sahel went through his water power (the frozen part) and it turned out fine thanks to Taika's incredible spell to create a warm bubble for him. This week we are entering Chapter 8 which means, more powers and more interaction with the other people in the house. You will see there are a lot of little one.

I had a headache last night when I recorded the first part of the video, so my voice was a bit monotonous. It was so bad that I had to take a break until it got better. I managed to get rid of it quickly, thanks to the guy who discovered aspirin and I'm a bit more alive for the second half. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy!

Demon Soul chapter 7

Hello and welcome to a new reading of Demon Soul!

I'm not alone to introduce the video. Let me introduce ぱいーぐる (pa-igulu), it's an eagle from Ishigaki Island and it can't really be find anywhere else so I'm pretty happy to have him.

Today Sahel is going to get more power but there is a lot more going on in this chapter. We will get into more details about the vampires in the house and about the magic side with Gideon and his friends. It seems that everybody decided to show up to entertain you in this chapter. I hope you'll enjoy!

Demon Soul Chapter 6

Hello and welcome to a new reading of Demon Soul!

Demon Soul is on sale at smashwords until March 8th! Get 75% off by using the code REW75 at checkout!

Last week, Sahel went through the acquisition of his air power and that was troublesome for Brownie, hopefully her Brothers were around to help and to make sure the temperature in the secret room in the library was warm enough. Today, Sahel's troubles are not finished, remember he still have three powers to get as a baby.

I'm a little bit less tired this week, I had some good results at work, finally. When I say work I mean physics, nothing to do with writing except that I'm writing a paper at the moment. It's like writing is always running after me. Any way, less cuts due to yawning in the video but unfortunately I became a bit monotonous at some point but it doesn't last too long, I caught up at the end. I also had problem pronouncing unicorn but you won't see that.
I hope you'll enjoy!

Without letting you wait any longer, here is Chapter 6 of Demon Soul.

Demon Soul Chapter 5

Hello and welcome to a new reading of Demon Soul!

Last week, Sahel and Brownie had some problem with Luna and the fairies. Hopefully, Gideon managed to catch the dark shadow responsible for burning the fairies' wings. But Sahel started to get his power over air making his ears very sensitive. Today, Brownie is going to more trouble to make sure he is safe.

I stopped caffeine, well, basically, I stopped drinking tea because I was making my heart race and I was insomniac. Please don't dring two litres of tea a day, that's dangerous. Anyway, I have caffeine withdrawal symptoms, not really bad but enough to make me yawn a lot while taking the video so there are a bit more cuts than usual. The chapter is also a bit longer. If the videos keep on getting longer I'm thinking of splitting the chapters in 2 videos over 2 weeks. Let me know what you prefer.

Without letting you wait any longer, here is Chapter 5 of Demon Soul.

Demon Soul Chapter 4

Hello and welcome to a new reading of Demon Soul!

Last week, Sahel went through his tears period giving Brownie and Gideon a lot to worry about. Now, Gideon is getting used to have him around and would like to relax a bit but Brownie is still really stressed out and refuses to leave the baby demon alone for a minute. And, she is right to worry as more troubles are coming up with the fairies.

Without letting you wait any longer, here is Chapter 4 of Demon Soul.
