Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.
“If, just if, magic exist, how does it work and why is it only in this universe?” Isabelle asked. She'll have to deal with Frederique and Anarin later but for the moment it was better to concentrate on the topic at hand and get out of here as fast as possible before her mother realized where she was.
“Once upon a time...” Romulus said smiling.
Isabelle rose an eyebrow.
“Alright, alright,” Romulus sighed and let his arms felt to his side. “In 1718, in his third book of Optics, Isaac Newton suggested the existence of an aether. The aether is a substance unpalatable but filling the entire universe, it was supposed to be a necessary medium for the transmission of the electromagnetic force and an explanation for the gravity. Everything moved in the aether. In the 19th century, the luminiferous aether was thought to propagate the light but Michelson-Morley's experiment failed to detect the motion of Earth through the aether. People tried to understand why but it was too complex, in a way if they couldn't see it, it wasn't there. There was a controversy.”
