Thursday Fiction 319: Parallel Slip: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction. Last week, we finished in the middle of Parallel Slip, the adventure of Frederique between different universes, with Fin still missing... Oops!

This week, we are starting a new story with a different character from the Parallel Slip universe. This new book is a work in progress. It is sort of self standing so far, even though it is still linked to the first book. It gives a different understanding of the people able to travel between different parallel universes in their mind.

Meet Isabelle

Isabelle blew on the bath bubbles and sight. This wasn't working. Being grounded on the week of her eighteenth birthday, on the week of the initiation was already bad enough, but nobody else than her mother could be mean enough to ground her in every single universe. Isabelle slide in the water until she was totally submerge. She had thought that a bath would calm her down but the water was getting cold, the bubbles were almost all out, her fingers and toes looked like old grapes and she was still not feeling better. She pushed her blond hair away from her face as she emerged from the water and decided to get out. All she had done was to say that she was going to ask the impostor what she intended to do herself, if nobody else wanted to do it. And her mother had gone completely nuts. Her mother, the beautiful, powerful, leader of the Hamelin universe travelers, extremely aware of what was hers and extremely religious. Isabelle couldn't wait to turn 18 and get out of here and she hoped that her other selves in the universes she hadn't visited yet would do the same because her mother would stop at nothing to make her traveling lives a pain, just like right now.

Isabelle closed her eyes for a second. That Michelle or Frederique girl whatever her name was, was her age, well just older enough that she could travel on her own without everyone jumping on her if she found out. Isabelle wondered for a moment how it would feel to travel by herself, without having learned anything about it, without having her mother telling her which universe she could visit and which she shouldn't, without being punished every time she accidentally slipped into the wrong universe.
