Thursday Fiction 320: Parallel Slip: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction. Last week we started the second book of the Parallel Slip universe with a new heroine named Isabelle. This week we continue right where we left of.

She had to improve her control, she had to read reports about etiquette before being allowed to go somewhere and if she slipped accidentally, her mother would be on her heals to snapped her back to Hamelin. She had no freedom. And sometimes she thought that her mother took the traveling way too seriously. There was nothing they could change in another universe and even if they did, it was just part of the process of life, it wasn't a big deal, it didn't matter. But of course she couldn't formulate those thoughts in front of her mother or in front of anyone. She was trapped in her room and every universes where she tried to take refuge, her mother had trapped her other selves too.

If I go to Anarin, she is going to kill me, Isabelle thought. If she tried to go to Anarin, where the impostor was supposed to be from, where the impostor should have been, her mother would take that as the worse disobedience so far and a few days away from being allowed to travel without supervision, trying to reach that particular universe would be foolish.

Isabelle didn't bother to dry herself, she passed the heavy and fluffy bathrobe on and walked out of her bathroom into her bedroom. Her family had accumulated wealth by gathering information from universe only slightly different but also shifted in time. There were three of those and the information once match allowed them to buy companies and sell some and they build an empire. It didn't affect the other universes but it affected the way they lived in their own. It didn't require as much skills in business as it did for other people, all it required was to shift once mind to somewhere else and partially slip into someone else's body. It had taken a while for Isabelle to be able to do it. It wasn't something you could learn. It was something that happened to you when you were about four years old.
