Thursday Fiction 322: Parallel Slip: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction. We continue to follow Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“Isabelle, for the love of god, keep your back straight and hold your fork higher, you are not a baby anymore.”

Isabelle could still hear her mother voice in her mind, thirteen years later, that day always felt like her first memory. Not good enough, not good enough, the words hammered in her head. And in her mind, she ran from the dinner table. Of course, six years old Isabelle didn't run and almost eighteen year old Isabelle knew it very well. But now, she could allow herself to change the reality of her life, to make things better, to make herself stronger, because it was also true that in another universe six years old Isabelle who wanted to run had run. Isabelle focused on the event, that's how she traveled, she focused on the thing that changed in the other universe and slipped.

She sat on her bed, her long blond hair dripping on the bed cover as the possible universes appear in her mind. She could see them, the other planets earth and browse through them. She had run in eighteen different universe at that particular moment leading to eighteen different realities. That was a lot but somehow she wished she had been more courageous in this universe and run too. There was no doubt that her mother would have caught up with her and locked her in her room but at least she would have been defiant and wouldn't have felt so insufficient for so long. She went back to the universe in the middle, there were two, number seven was the universe of Efria and it was a boring one, totally like home, minus the colors. Isabelle couldn't understand how colors could totally disappear from a planet, it made no sense but everything there was a shade of grey. So she looked at the one next to it, number six, the universe of Asfora and tried to remember if she ever heard anything about it. Once she knew the name of a universe, she could just call for it but this one seemed rather elusive, it didn't ring a bell at all. Isabelle smile and brought the universe closer to her, the other disappeared. Asfora it is then
