Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction. We continue to follow Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.
Maybe even the waitress job, it was one of her mother threat. That she was going to end up penniless if she didn't behave. Her mother wouldn't spend her hard won cash on her for the rest of her life. What her mother seemed to forget though was that the money really belonged to her uncle, that he had been the one working for it after her grand-father and her great-grand father before him and that for many generation. That her mother wouldn't have anything if it wasn't for her uncle still being unmarried when he mysteriously died. He was going to get married in a few weeks and her mother felt frightened by the new bride. Then he died and Isabelle still couldn't get an understanding of how. He was on the way back home from another universe and suddenly his body went limp and it was over. Now amount of treatment could bring him back and her mother had the machines stopped after a few days. Isabelle was fifteen, she was watching behind the glass window when the doctor turned of the machine and her uncle stopped breathing. She was holding his bride's hand, it was supposed to be their wedding day. If her mother had been willing to be theatrical, she wouldn't have chosen a better timing. She inherited everything and she loved the power. The first thing she did was to kick her brother's betrothed out of the house. Isabelle never saw her again. She tried to find a universe where her uncle was still alive, where he had gotten married and where his wife was still around but she couldn't.
And now, there was this Amy, who also came from the university, just like Frederique, the impostor. Isabelle wondered if they had met. One part of her wanted to interrogate the other girl about what it was like to go to school like a normal person and another part of her wanted to yell at her mother to keep her friends away from her.
A few years ago, a bunch of people figured out that they could travel from universe to universe using drugs and that drug left them in a coma until they finally died. It seemed like a joke at first, but their research progressed fast and it had to stop. It was frightening the establishment of Isabelle's family, it was frightening the entire system the multiverse was build upon. If random people, if careless people were to move to other universes, how many of them would be forced to collapse.
