We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.
Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.
“The church in its irreplaceable beatitude has sent us more hearts to help us pray,” the priest said as the others bowed with their hands joined on their chests. “The powers of our prayer will never fail, god listen.”
He wished them goodnight but I was gone before he could set his eyes on me again. I knew who he was, who they all were and in the same way, he knew who I was. I had enough information for the night, there was nothing else I could do except wait for the sun to shine again to learn more about the dragons.
I stopped in Irina’s room when I came back and checked her pulse. It was stronger than I expected, she seemed to have taken the blood loss a lot better this time. She didn’t move and didn’t wake. I made sure that she was warm under the blanket and took care of the fire. I stayed standing looking at it, fighting against my feeling. I wanted to forgot my fear for good. There was not just one Jäger, his body guard and a stupid inn keeper proud of killing so many vampires and wearing their fang around his neck like in Vienna, there were at least six of them, with knowledge about vampires, with weapons, with fervent people praying for them that they could control if needed, time of crisis made people weak. I had seen it often enough to know it does. People would rally around any kind of leader it time of crisis, they didn’t ask themselves about right or wrong, they were just jumping on a pretend solution no matter what it was. The church was a well establish kind of power and the Jäger knew how to take advantage of it. I had seen it tonight. If they pushed the people in believing I was with the dragons, they wouldn’t think twice before slicing my throat thinking that they had accomplished the will of god. I needed to be careful but I also liked the danger and I liked that it would take me away from Irina for a while.
