Wednesday Snippet 401: Fairy World 42

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.

"It had never been necessary," Amarelis answered out of breath.

 

"Then you should have told me earlier and only called one guy," Deborah said. 

 

The fairy who had brought the tea started to laugh and Deborah yanked herself at him hitting her shoulder in his stomach before kicking the other guy. Amarelis grabbed a lamp and tiptoed on the side on the one who had brought the tea as he was closing up on Deborah. She closed her eyes and hit him with all the strength she could master. He fell to the ground with a sort of yawning sound and blood appeared on his blond hair. 

 

"I'm impressed," Deborah said finishing to hit the last one. 

 

"Do you think I killed him?" Amarelis said disturbed. 

 

"Nah, he'll need more than that, he'll just have a headache when he wakes up." 

 

Deborah took the clothes on the ground. It was a dress, rather pretty in a light blue color but definitely not her style.

Wednesday Snippet 400: Fairy World 41

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

 

The second was too heavily charge to avoid the first kick and when he finally free himself from the clothes he was bringing, the human's hand somehow caught him in the chin. He stumbled backward into Amarelis' problem. 

 

The fairy carrying the tea had turned around to her when hearing the noise and cries. She had hit the tray up, breaking the tea pot and cup and pouring the hot tea all over him but after that she had no idea what to do. A part of her felt sorry for making a mess and the other part of her felt sorry for it not been enough. The fairy had let the tray down and grabbed her wrist and pulled for forward. All she could do was resisting and looking back hoping that the human would help her before running away. Then the second guy had bumped into her opponent and she had found herself next to Deborah, the fairies between them and the door and she had hoped they wouldn't be the one escaping and locking them up again.

 

"You can't fight for shit," Deborah said.

Wednesday Snippet 399: Fairy World 40

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

 

"On the library's table," he said.

 

"Yes, on the library's table. Is it really so hard to understand? I want it on the table over there, there are nice armchairs we will be comfortable," she said standing up and closing her report with more violence than she intended too. She had trouble to contain herself when she walked around the desk, to precede him. She stopped, she needed to follow him. There were two more of them carrying garments for the human girl, they hadn't entered the room yet.

 

"What are you waiting for?" She asked them making a gesture of the hand for the first servant to go on. "Bring those to the library too!" 

 

The servants entered and Deborah didn't wait. As the second turned to close the door, she jumped on him. One thing Amarelis could say was that the human could fight. The first fairy carrying garment fell to the ground when she jumped on him using her weight to elbow him at the base of the neck.

Wednesday Snippet 398: Fairy World 39

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

He was holding the tray carrying a teapot from which raspberry sent was coming with the vapor from the boiling water. It was Amarelis's favorite. He was always the same. They were all dressed in blue, Amarelis's chosen color, as if it mattered. She had tried at first to learn their names but apparently that was irrelevant, they had said they could be replaced any time. He was smiling and Amarelis didn't like that smile, she had never understood why until today. He had just been someone doing his work, bringing her food. But now she understood, he was the one with the key, the one locking the door, the one following someone else's order as he called her his queen, while wearing her colors. It was all fake but at least they hadn't poisoned her tea yet, the thought gave her a shiver, they might have, to keep her quiet all that time. 

 

"Please, put it on the table in the library," Kallisto said, the please hurting her throat like never before. She needed that key, even if she was out of here in no time she needed that key, it represented the power this servant held over her, the rightful queen.

Wednesday Snippet 397: Fairy World 38

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

They had all bowed to Kallisto when she had grown her wings. Then just like that, they had all bowed to her when Kallisto had given her the power. 

When the stars had disappeared few days later and she and Kordelius had been unable to find answers. His mother had unexpectedly recover and she had blamed it on Amarelis, telling that she wasn't suitable to be a queen and that she could fix the stars. They had all believed her, her people had believed the white queen who had reigned over them for more than 200 years because that was the easy thing to do. Amarelis herself had believed her. 

The queen had said that they would work together and Amarelis had been locked up here since, to do the paper work. She had no idea what Kordelius was doing and she had been forbidden to see Cilydd. 

How? Why did she accept that? Was she really that weak? Kallisto had been crying non stop but at least she had made her choice. 

 

She heard the key turned in the lock and she tensed. It was time to get out of here and take back what was rightfully hers... Somehow.

"Here my queen!" the first one said entering.

Wednesday Snippet 396: Fairy World 37

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.  

The title said "Loss of 1% of rain water in the southern area. Is climate change due to the disappearance of stars?"

Was it a joke? She had been reading things like that for the past two months. There was no way she would even know if the rain water had to be constant or not. If that human hadn't showed up today, she would have read it, go to the next room to check the archive on rain all by herself, checked if it was consistent with the stars' predictions, checked if there were variations over the years and months, checked the reason for the variations and wrote a reassuring report that everything was just as expected according to past prediction. 

She sighed. Who had time to waste with that? Who had time to even write that report in the first place or to be interested in that? There was definitely something happening outside and she had been blind to it. She had been looking for something to do not to take her responsibilities as a queen.

Wednesday Snippet 395: Fairy World 36

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.  

 

Amarelis bite her lips, it has been so amusing to play queen that she didn't think about that.

"I'll help you," Amarelis said.

"Kick them unconscious?" Deborah asked.

"It's time for me to show them who the real queen is, and," she paused a moment, "I too, have a man to rescue."

"They keep getting themselves in trouble, don't they?" Deborah said. She thought about lord Ezechiel and what he might be doing alone, without her. She closed her eyes for a moment. He had rescued her to torture her and make her do his binding regardless of her safety, he did not love her. Nobody loved her and she didn't need to be loved. She had been living that way for as long as she knew after all. She could escape this place with Yue, just to repay him for freeing her and then, she would craft a place for herself in this world or another more welcoming. There were many a world out there, she would just have to find one.

"He..., never mind," Amarelis said looking absently at the report in front of her.

Wednesday Snippet 394: Fairy World 35

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.  

"And my guest takes sugar with her tea," Amarelis answered. "Do not delay?" Please, she didn't say please this time, it was the first time she ever asked anything from anyone without saying the word.

"Will that be all?" The voice said in the tube.

Amarelis seemed to hear some annoyance in it, she looked at the human.

"Bring some clothes for my guess, Size 345 I would say," Amarelis answered, "without wings holes. Do not delay!"

She placed the speaker back and heard a familiar click on the other side.

"What was that for?"

"If you are to move around, you need to look like a fairy, dress like this they would arrest you in no time," Amarelis said.

Deborah smiled.

"But how many people are going to bring all these things?" Deborah answered.

Wednesday Snippet 393: Fairy World 34

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.  

She still had problems to understand how she had been thrown in the middle of this all and how Kalisto had given up this world so easily. Because she was in love, she reminded herself, because she thought I would take good care of it and now, I'm locked underground and I didn't even know that magic was gone. Did the human even told her the truth or was it just a ruse to get out of here? She probably had been sent here for a reason by Kordelius's mother. This was too much to take on.

"What can I do for you my queen?"

Amarelis jerked. That was it, the sound in the pipe next to the cord. The voice seemed to come from far away. Amarelis took the speaker.

"Can I have some tea please?" She asked, "And some cake too, I feel a little hungry."

"It's too early for tea don't you think?" said the far away voice.

She was the queen, how dared they discuss her order.

"I have a guest with me, she seems hungry too, don't forget to bring two cups," Amarelis said. "Do you use sugar, or milk?" She asked for Deborah.

The human girl was surprised by the question.

"Sugar?" She guessed.

Wednesday Snippet 392: Fairy World 33

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.  

Deborah smirked.

"Do you want out of here and see for yourself?"

"Yes, but..."

"Then here is what we are gonna do..." Deborah said. "Then you're on your own, I need to go get Yue before everything burns."

Amarelis' hands were trembling and Deborah standing behind the door was not in any better shape. Amarelis kept on repeating to herself that this was a bad idea but she needed to see Kordelius, she needed to do something for herself. She took another report in front of her and pulled on a cord next to her, trying not to make it sound rushed on the other side. That cord ringed a bell, for someone, somewhere, she wasn't sure. She hoped that she sounded natural, she didn't remember how she rung the bell before. Did she pulled once only? Did she pulled twice? She waited for the signal to show but it didn't show. Would she see it or hear it? She tried to focus but she didn't remember. She had never done something like that before, not deliberately, she had helped the demons who had come to her world, but that was a question of life and death now she wonder if death wouldn't have been better: Kallisto would have married Kordelius or died and nothing would have changed for her, she would never have grown her wings.

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.  

"Your wings, I like them, they are pretty," Deborah said.

"They are fading," Amarelis answered. "They are losing their power every so slowly everyday."

"Not your fault, apparently all magic is gone around here," Deborah said. "Which actually got me thinking while that bastard was taking me here, I'm on even footing with everyone else."

"What do you mean? How can magic be gone?" Amarelis said taking few steps back and sitting on a wooden chair."

"I don't know how magic is gone, it's that lunatic saying that, now if we don't hurry, she is going to use Yue and that won't be pretty," Deborah said finally giving up on the door and touring the room to see if there was an escape. "But it you guys do everything with magic, then in a world without magic, I should be the one in charge because I know how that works."

"I don't understand anything you say," Amarelis looked passably confused.

"When do they bring food?" Deborah asked.

"Whenever I ask?"

"If you are the queen, why don't you order them to let you go out or something?"

"Because the day I became queen, the only thing telling you how to live our life disappeared," Amarelis answered.

"So you hide," Deborah said turning to the door and moving the handle frenetically.

"I'm not hiding, I'm just..."

"Don't you think your people need you when you have that psycho in the castle," Deborah said.

Deborah didn't seem as weak as Amarelis has thought in the first place.

"They blamed it on me," Amarelis said wrapping herself with both arms. "They said I broke the balance and that the stars are angry because of me, I shouldn't have grown my wings."

"I like them," Deborah said.

"What?"

"I won't hurt you," Amarelis answered.

"I don't know you," Deborah stood and backed away her back at the door looking at Amarelis fixedly. She has such beautiful wings was the only thing Deborah seemed to be able to think about. She tried to kicked the thought to concentrate on something else but Amarelis' blue wings were captivating. She closed her eyes a second and turned around grabbing the handle to open the door but it didn't move. She tried and tried again to no avail.

"We are both prisoners here I'm afraid," Amarelis said.

Deborah turned around to face her again, her back once more at the door.

"Who are you?" She said.

"The Neo Queen Amarelis," Amarelis said with a sad smile. "The one reduced to do paper work, ignorant of what the world outside looks like."

Wednesday Snippet 388: Fairy World 29

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

 

Amarelis was passing back and forth behind her desk when they through a human girl in her quarter before closing the door once more, without a word.

She had been locked in this room for what seemed like an eternity, sleeping at her desk, getting more and more paper work every day, unaware of what was happening in the rest of the world. Being a queen was exhausting. She had never imagine the burden and she had to take care of everything her predecessor had neglected in her madness. She felt like a prisoner and when she saw the human girl landing on her knees in front of her without a word, she realised that it was what she was. She pulled on the handle for the first time but the door didn't open, she was locked in her own quarter, far beneath the surface of this world. This was a cell for a scribe, not a righteous place for a queen.

The human girl was crying, she huddled up in a ball like a frightened little child and Amarelis was drown to her.

"Are you alright?"

"Stay away from me," Deborah said.

Wednesday Snippet 387: Fairy World 28

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

"But you said he should go get a new soul in the Demon World," Deborah said.

The queen fairy laughed.

"Nobody can go anywhere from here," she said. "There is no magic left in this world, the one who are here are here to stay and I want this phoenix to work for me and take care of some very particular intruders."

"How can the magic be gone?" Deborah answered.

"If someone asks you, you'll say you don't know," the queen fairy answered. "Take her to Amarelis, she is as exasperating, they will enjoy each other very much."

The fairy dressed in blue pulled on Deborah's arm to make her stand up. She clung at Yue all she could but she was finally dragged out of the room and down the stairs. Always, always further down. After never seeing the sun in the Angel World, she felt like she would never see the sun in this world either.

Wednesday Snippet 386: Fairy World 27

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

The queen fairy didn't answer.

"Don't," Deborah said.

But Yue didn't listen. He smiled at her, placed the dark green pill between his lips and swallowed it with a large gulp of water. His body started to shake, he couldn't see anything anymore but flashes of lights, stars. He fell to his knees taking Deborah down with him.

"What did you do to him?" The human girl asked with a shy voice.

"He'll be fine, the drug is just recreating forgotten pathways in his brain," the white queen fairy said. "Having one of the phoenixes for yourself is just too tempting for me to hurt him, don't you think?"

Tears fell on Deborah's cheeks as she held onto Yue. Was this worse than to be with Lord Ezechiel? What was she going to do in this unknown world if Yue didn't recover? This was the fairy world, fairies were supposed to be nice and lovely and helpful even if malicious. Deborah tried to remember the tales of her childhood. The bad fairies were always dressed in black, the one in white were the good guys. But then angels were nice and carrying and saving people and demons were vile and nasty and here she was clinging at a demon who had cured her after she was burned by an angel. Something was wrong, something in this world and all the others was clearly wrong.

Wednesday Snippet 385: Fairy World 26

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

Yue turned the pills in his fingers considering his options. He could ruin the place and look for the blue pills but he might not get enough for his entire life and they might be just an illusion as the fairy queen had said. He didn't even remember how he had come across them in the first place. Where were they coming from? Who had given them to him? Why was he really taking them? Then he could take these new pills and see what would happen, like a drug junky. That's what he was, maybe even if he couldn't remember the real effect of each pills long enough.

"Can I have a glass of water?" he asked.

The white fairy queen made a sign of her head and the fairy dressed in blue walked away. It came back a minute later with a glass full of water.

"So this will help me go to the Demon World to get a soul back," Yue said taking the glass in his free hand.

Wednesday Snippet 384: Fairy World 25

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

"There is a place in the Demon World where the one your kind call the Hunters have been gathering the soul of the reborn gods to relocate them into something else," the queen fairy said.

"And, you think I could get one of those before it is relocated?" Yue asked.

"That's how your double got yours, isn't it? The human witch called it to her and put it inside him. Maybe you could convinced her to get one for you," the white queen took a little bag out of one of the desk's heavy drawers. "Here, take one of these," she said placing the little bag inside Yue's palm and going back to her potion.

Yue opened the bag and found two green pills inside, they were not like the blue pills, they were opaque and smelled like a forest of pine in a hot summer night.

"Don't," Deborah whispered. "You don't know what they will do to you."

Wednesday Snippet 383: Fairy World 24

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

 

A fire ball appeared in Yue's hand and it was sucked dry with one look by the fairy queen.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you, even you wouldn't get out of this place alive and who would search for your ashes in this recluse tower of my palace," she said going back to her potions.

"How do I remember what I do from now on?" Yue asked.

"You need a soul," the queen answered.

"Where do I get one?" Yue said.

"Going after your twins would be the best but I don't think you could ever win your soul back, it is too powerfully attached to his body by very dark magic, you could get any soul really but a powerful one would be the best," the queen said.

"Yours," Yue answered forming the ball of fire in his hand again making the white queen fairy laugh.

"As a demon, you need a demon soul don't you think? A god soul possibly," the queen fairy said.

"What do you imply?" Yue asked.

Wednesday Snippet 382: Fairy World 23

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

"Ezechiel didn't send you, you are too precious an help for him to send you away, especially here," the white queen said.

"I want my memories back," Yue said. If the white fairy knew that much, he didn't need to play games anymore.

"I'm afraid that is impossible," the white queen answered.

"When I take the blue pills, my memories come back," Yue said.

"No," the queen answered adding a red powder to the mixture, "when you take the blue pill, you are held in a comforting place with an illusion of understanding who you are and what you want. Nothing can give you back your memories. Once the soul is taken out of a body, you have merely hours for it to be returned without too much loss. Longer than that and it only ground the person to help them move forward. I saw your soul with someone else, the other phoenix, he was really something but your soul has his memories now, yours are gone, forever."

"That's impossible," Yue said coming closer trying to get Deborah away from him.

"You don't have a soul anymore, the one you once had is gone. Your mind will be new every time you wake up with no sense of who you are and where you belong, what a pitiful creature," the white queen said with a smile.
