Thursday Fiction 449: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“That's so strange, I never had that feeling I mean Romulus is there but he is just like a voice in my head like something I can hear, I don't have a physical feeling of him.”

“Yeah, that's the same when I travel normally I don't have physically contact either, I can move the body like it's mine but I never feel invaded, Clara was a first.”

“Did Romulus warned you about it before hand?”

“No, he didn't say anything just left me a message to go to Oris,” Isabelle said.

“It's so strange. I heard him talk of Oris before. For him it's everything. It's a paradise. I think if he could he would just move there permanently.”

Isabelle started to think that maybe Clara's Romi was actually Romulus.

“Well, I wouldn't,” Isabelle said.

“So how did you get your tracker removed?”

Thursday Fiction 448: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Isabelle laughed before becoming deadly serious, looking at him, he was still Romulus maybe a better version even.

“Do you think I'm fluffy?”

“I wouldn't dare to even start in this direction.”

“Good.”

“Good.”

“So uncomfortable like what?”

“Like she went everywhere inside of my head, inside of my mind and my body.”

“Weren't you the one in her body?”

“Well, it didn't really feel like it,” Isabelle said.

Isabelle hugged herself. Just thinking about Clara and her meeting with her was bringing back the bad sensations.

Thursday Fiction 447: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“That doesn't explain the other magic universe you talked about earlier,” Eric said.

Isabelle didn't know how much to tell him about Oris or Genel, she decided to give it a try anyway.

“I'll tell you but you have to promise to keep it secret from Romulus,” Isabelle said

Eric smirked, apparently he liked the idea.

“All right, go on.”

“I really don't like Clara,” Isabelle said. That was it, it was out and it felt good at least until Eric asked why. How do you tell a guy whose body serve as a vessel to someone else on a daily basis that you don't feel comfortable with someone going anywhere in your head.

“She was uncomfortable,” Isabelle said.

“Like not fluffy enough?”

Thursday Fiction 446: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“I tried once and got bankrupt with the lawyers. My mother has my grand-father's entire fortune, when she sold this house I had to get someone else to buy it for me so that we could perform the transaction. She wouldn't let me have it. She tried to get it back when she realized I went through extra buyers to get it. My grand-father is ninety-four years old, he needs a lot of help and care and I need to be able to provide that for him when I win the legal battle. So far, I'm no match for my mother.”

“I see,” Isabelle said. That was lame but that was the best she could come up with. “I didn't see much.”

“Now, it's my turn to ask a question, I know for sure that you didn't get your tracker removed in Oris, Romulus came back here completely mad after meeting you, what happened?”

“I went to Oris, my mother showed up, I had to leave.” Isabelle said.

Thursday Fiction 445: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“And when am I supposed to go down there?” She asked.

“If the police or anyone from the alliance shows up at the door,” Eric answered.

“All right,” Isabelle backed slowly away until her back hit the couch.

“I'm sorry I don't know more about Romulus's plan in the other universes, I just hope that you'll be ok,” Eric said letting the chest back down.

“Don't you have anything to do, like a job or something instead of taking care of me?”

“Well, that's the beauty of investing. I can have someone take care of it and do it for me when I have more important things to do,” Eric said.

“So you can pay someone to take care of everything for you but you can't get your grand-father back to his house?”

Eric looked hurt and Isabelle regretted being so blunt but she had to know who she was dealing with.

Thursday Fiction 444: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“If soundproof so nobody can hear you from down there. There are glass panels on the side so that you always have light during the day and my grand-father stocked food for cases of emergency. He always believed that the war would come again. You have to pull on the string to close the door after going down and you better be careful with your head when it falls back. That's about it. Oh it can't be opened from the inside so if something happen when you're in there and I'm not back in half an hours, better let Romulus know in another universe. He told me he put the schedule of his trip on the table.”

Isabelle looked at the hole and the stairs going down. It wasn't like a typical basement, it smelled nice and it was well lit but she had some apprehension about being locked up in there, she had already been locked up in her bedroom so many times, she thought that at least being away from home she would have some freedom.

Thursday Fiction 443: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“If I open it, normally, from the front, it's just a normal chest full of old news paper.” To demonstrate, he opened the lid of the chest. The inside smelled a bit rancid, old newspapers and photographs and a smell of ink and dust came out of it.

“Why are you keeping those?”

“That's my grand-father's stuff, from the war, it's untouchable,” Eric said closing the lid back. “Now here is the trick, if you open the chest from the right side...”

He pressed the button and the chest elevated on the right side showing a well lit staircase.

“Tadam! This is where my grand-father hided people during the war. Most of the time he had two families down there, sometimes more until they could take a chance at crossing the border. Some of them just stayed here until the end though.

Thursday Fiction 442: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Isabelle needed answers a lot more than she had imagined and she also needed to trust herself enough to make a decision about staying here or leaving.

“All done,” Eric said. “It's like you've never been here.”

He smiled at her but for some reason it sounded a lot more creepy than reassuring. If nobody could find her, whatever happened to her didn't matter, nobody would ever help her if she needed to.

“Come with me, I'll show you the entrance to your hiding place.”

Isabelle stood up easily, with the food in she already felt better.

“See that chest here,” Eric said kneeling next to a large wooden coffer. It seemed very old and heavy.

Thursday Fiction 441: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

But somehow it had grown so bad that she was taken away from school but nobody would acknowledge why. It was just so that she had to be taught to be the heir. It never made much sense to her. All she knew was that she had heard her mother and her uncle arguing that they couldn't let her cry every day. Her mother had made it clear that she never believed her. She always took the side of the other kids, either Malik or anyone else, as if Isabelle couldn't do anything right. And then she had slipped and it had gotten worse because her mother blamed everything on the other universes.

“Are you sure it happened in Hamelin? People don't do that or this in our universe.”

And Isabelle would question herself. Did she made the right choice, did it really happen? Was it all in her head? She felt crazy like the last thing she could trust was her own mind and now Romulus had said to trust herself first, then him.

Thursday Fiction 440: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Now, she wasn't sure. Maybe Malik was right and she should have listen to her mother, maybe leaving with Romulus was a bad idea. She put her plate down and sipped a bit more of the ginger ale. She was so confused, whatever people kept telling her was always a lot different than what she perceived or could think by herself.

Romulus had said that she needed to trust herself first and she didn't feel like she was good at that.

What was there to trust in herself when most of what she believed was always wrong or apparently never happened?

For the most part of her life she had grown up believing that her mother new better. If she was teased at school, she was making it up and it was all in her head. She remembered other girls laughing at her but her mother always told her that it was all in her head, that those girls were nice girls and that she was the bad kid for saying bad things about them.

Thursday Fiction 439: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Something was fishy here. Maybe Romulus wasn't really what he seemed to be after all. Maybe it was all his plan, to make her believe that she was in danger and that her universe would be invaded by travelers from different universe. However, she couldn't really imagine what could come next, except for a take over of governments and such, maybe by people that weren't even here. That would take time. That would change the entire equation for the alliance. That wouldn't be good for business unless they transformed all the universes to be the same. Then what would happen? Would they all collapse into one?

Isabelle wished she knew more about the multiverse and how it all worked. She had never considered that she needed too. She was going to be the heir, use data from other universe to keep her company growing and that would be it. Maybe use different sort of technology invented out of Hamelin. It all sounded easy.

Thursday Fiction 438: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“I think it just depends who you are and who gets inside of you,” Eric said. “I'm going to erase your foot print in the mud and then I'll show you your hiding place.”

Eric pushed on this knees to stand up and walked to the door. Isabelle took a few little sip of her ginger ale and continued eating. There was nothing else to do than wait for Romulus to return with news. She could go pick some up in other universes but she felt too tired for that. Here main question was how were they always going to stop people from making traveler kids in any universe that weren't theirs? It was impossible to stop people from having children.

But somehow she believed that Romulus slightly over reacted. It's not like they could make hundreds of woman pregnant in her universe. There weren't that many men in the alliance for that and still it sounded gross.

Thursday Fiction 437: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“I share some memories with Romulus in exchange for his. I see almost everything he sees when he is with me, except for the alliance meetings where I only see the business part.”

He put the glass on the small table next to her.

“It's forbidden for me to see the rest of the meeting so I only got a few glimpses, they have some devices to make sure I'm not there, well me and the other ones.”

“How does it feel when you are not there?”

“It's like being asleep,” Eric said. “I'm not really sure how to describe it. I just know that he is using my body and there is not much I can do about it. Sometimes I fought and sort of won but there is no way to always keep him completely out. At first it was really weird but with time, I got used to it and I don't mind as much.”

“I don't know how I'd feel,” Isabelle said.
