Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.
There were seats placed in a semi circle with the back to the door, and facing a statue of a girl and two huge fire lions but except for the distinguishable flame shape on the lion, there were nothing like the colorful figures they had encountered everywhere on the way. Those lions were totally white except for the piercing black eyes. People were queuing to touch the feet of the girl which had been polished so much over the years, by so many hands that they had flattened. The lion seemed to be hovering on top of the crowd ready to pounce on anyone misbehaving. The previous lions had seemed like good fun to Brownie, nice, colorful and funny looking creatures, those were rather frightening. It reminded her the real purpose of the fire lions, to protect the girl who was supposed to be offered as a sacrifice for the demons even if that meant that they had to destroy the entire city in the process. Somehow it sounded crazy but there was no way to understand what the beasts wanted, what was their relationship with the girl or what were their reasons for protecting her and only her.
It was Brownie's turn to touch the feet on the girl and both her aquamarine and the crystal piece she had found were pulsating against her chest and in her pocket against her leg. It was a strange feeling, as if they were trying to tell her there was a danger, somewhere around. Brownie touched the feet and looked up at the lions, there were purple shadows dancing in their eyes, something very familiar. She looked around to see what could have had this effect on the black marble but there was nothing remotely purple around.
