Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 288

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

A little man with long hair falling to his shoulders but a very clean shave opened the door behind the counter. He yawned and looked straight at us as if we weren’t what he had hoped for. He put both elbow on the counter without a word of welcome. I had the strange feeling that his amiability wasn’t the only reason why the business seemed to be so slow. I walked toward him as he yawned again. Irina passed her arm around mine and clung at my shirt so strongly that her finger’s phalanges turned whiter than her already overly white skin but she didn’t say a word. She was afraid and that’s what she did when she was afraid, sound were unable to get out of her throat, just the same as that time when I attacked her and drunk her blood. Her only defense against danger would have been to pretend being dead.
“We would like a room each and a smaller one for our driver,” I said trying not to mix any Czech in my Polish but I might once again have my word ending wrong because the guy frowned.
“You’re foreigner?” He asked straightening himself a bit.
I felt Irina’s body tense by my side, she couldn’t clung at me more, he nails were already drawing their marks on my arm through my shirt. “Is it a problem?” I asked.
“We don’t want foreign folks to die in here, it’s bad for business,” the man said.
“I don’t understand,” I said. I knew exactly what he meant but I didn’t know how we could die here so easily.
“The dragons, never heard of them? They nested recently, it didn’t happen in about three hundred years they say, who knows.”
“Dragons?” I said taken aback, I had read about dragons, I knew what a dragon was but it had never occurred to me that there were still dragons around.
“Yeah, they nested, you can’t imagine how angry it makes them, and hungry too, I haven’t seen a customer in weeks, everyone is fleeing the city or hiding and going out only for food. There isn’t anyone to get rid of the nasty beast.” He said.

Thursday Fiction 278: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.
Let's start right where we left off last week.

"You're going to be alright," I said in my head, or more exactly in her head. "You have been through a lot and you are the only one who can help yourself. She is gone, she won't hurt you for now, it's the moment when you decide to be strong."
"But I can't talk to her the way you do, I can't escape," My other self said.
She could hear me and I could hear her, that was new and that was somehow beautiful.
"But you did it, it was your voice, it was you saying it, I just voiced what you wouldn't let yourself say," I said.
There were things I wouldn't say to my mother either, terrible things. She didn't have to say it all, she just had to say enough to stay safe.
"Why did you say I'll see the psychologist?" She asked.
"Because you need it to treat your emotional abuse," I said.
"Emotional abuse? That's what it is? That's what she has been doing to me? I read about it. I looked for answered but I could never place myself there. I could never quite be sure which part was normal interaction and which part was not. I could ever figure out which part made up and all in my head and what was real," she said.
"I never though about it this way," I said. "I guess you need to talk about it all, if you have a question, you ask the doctor and he will help."
"She'll be back and she won't be happy," my other self said. "Would you stay with me? I called you many time but you never came until now."
"I don't decide where I go but you need to know that I am you, I am just another part of you."
"But you're so strong and you seem to know everything so much better," she said.
"That's not true, it was just what you needed, you are the one who really made the decision," I said.
"Thank..."

Wednesday Snippet 280: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

He counted the row of boxes trying to remember the last he had seen before. He turned right entering a row which seemed to be the one feeling uncertain as he couldn't seem to be able to feel the trident calling him anymore. He wondered if they had removed it to somewhere safer as he was here. The body in boxes were an oppressing sight. He imagine how he would feel to wake up in one of this things, knowing that you were born without parents, without memories, as an adult almost. A shiver passed through his spine, this was totally wrong. He wondered who could have the mad idea to create this, who could be that cruel. He felt the urge to destroy everything but he knew it was foolish. These were the way for the one who had died during the fight to be reborn somehow and he couldn't resolve on stopping them. He stopped a second looking around, breathing heavily. He hated this place, it was unnatural and filthy, even for demons.
Cries started to resonate in the room, they had finally found Lonan and they weren't too far from him. He ran, trying to concentrate on the trident, he needed to feel it to find it, all these boxes looked the same from far away, he had no way to direct himself.
It started very slowly, like a wave calling him, a sort of voice resonating in his ear. He turned left and ran straight for a while then right.
He arrived in front of his box turned around it looking for the trident trying not to see his own face in the glass box.
“Is this what you are looking for?” A voice asked on the other side of the box.
Someone had finally found him and it wasn't one of those weakling in robes.

Tuesday Travel 69: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"I didn't mean it like that," Sandy said.
"Two speed ethics I see," Samantha answered.
There was no way for Sandy to win this, she had no argument that could counter Samantha now.
"There is a difference between man and woman," Sandy said.
Brownie couldn't repress a smile. She had heart that from girls, human and demon alike, so many times before, the huge difference between men and women that let the man do things woman couldn't do.
"Oh, let's hear it," Samantha said staring at Sandy.
And Brownie knew why she was on Samantha's side even before any of this started. Samantha reminded her of herself, the fighting part of herself that was. She was sitting here as a spectator of who she had been in her last interaction with the demons before they left to the Fairy World in an all boy mission leaving her out and pissed because of her gender.
"He needs a lot more protein than a woman does and there are no protein in potatoes," Sandy said.
"That's it?" Brownie answered with her eyes wide like saucers.
It seemed nobody had been expected to hear her speak.
"That's enough, he needs meat from time to time, you biologically don't," Marry answered.
"Seriously, you must be joking," Josh answered.
"It seems that someone was really sleeping during biology classes," Samantha said.
"Well, I was but she is right, there are no protein in the potatoes so..." Samuel answered.
"Proteins are used to build muscle so yeah woman need some, almost as much as a guy, it depends on your size but not that much on gender," Josh said.
"You don't know anything about nutrition, we are vegetarian, we are very careful about what we need to meet our daily nutritional requirements and women don't need proteins at all, we need 90% carbohydrate and 10% fat," Marri said.
