About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"So beings only matter if they are sentient according to your definition? Because you can't talk to them and understand them and they don't make noise you can kill them as much as you want but if they have four legs and a heart beat you can't," Samantha said.
"Exactly, killing animal is unethical," Marri answered.
"That's what I really can't stand with people like you," Samantha said. "You pretend to be all better than others and so ethical and good when in fact you have no compassion what so ever for any being that don't match your criteria."
"It's not their criteria," Samuel said trying to defend his girlfriend. "They are just following the mainstream ethical think."
"Well, they can do it with their plate and they don't need to complain about what they didn't get," Samantha answered.
Brownie's house was a bit of a stormy place at time but it was never really arguing for the sake of arguing. The people she was with right now didn't match at all. Samuel was eating meat but still defended his vegetarian girlfriend and Marri, who were complaining about some food that they didn't eat. It was ridiculous and Samantha seemed to always have a point to make, somehow she was belligerent and at the same time she was right most of the time.
"And how do you like your stew?" Josh asked her across the table. It sort of diffused the tension by bringing all eyes on her.
"I like it," she said.
Samantha gave her a "that's my girl smile", Marri shook her head.
"I thought you were cool but I don't think I can ever associate with someone who like killing animals," Sandy said.
Brownie wonder if the change of heart was due to her using her barrier earlier.
"Congratulation Sam. You're single," Josh said.
