Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.
The excerpt, we start where we left off last week
"Let's start."
Brownie entered the circle and she felt some chill as if the wind was already starting to grow in the place, cold and icy even before start the spell. It was strange but it somehow boosted her confidence. Josh sat in the circle next to her. It was wiered to have someone with her. It wasn't her first time but Josh was basically a stranger, she had no idea to know how he was going to react to her performing magic and it was making her feel self conscious. Something she couldn't really afford right now. She took a deep breath through her nose and exaled really slowly through her mouth trying to push Josh away from the center of her though. She was just in front of her supply, all she needed was to start but she decided to spend a few minute grounding herself. Josh's essence felt volatile at best next to her. Best case senario, she wouldn't have to use his energy, worse case senario he would freak out when she did and so she needed to be prepared and grounded for both of them. The ground was warm from the sunlight it had bathed in all afternoon. It was getting really dark now but Brownie didn't care. She imagine roots leaving her body under her bottom and legs, under her feet and going down right to the center of the earth.
