Hello and Welcome to Thursday Taster again. Talented writers from all over the blogosphere gather together to give
readers tasty parts of their work in progress, you can find the list here.
As I'm currently working on the edits of Rainbow Catcher,
that's the project I will be presenting until it is ready. Thank you for
all the comments on last week's taster, I really appreciate. As it's under editing, if
you see anything funny, hit me on the head in the comments. Also, big announcement, Rainbow Catcher has been submitted to Pitch Wars! Now I'm waiting for a sign of my mentors and for the results on September 3rd.
Today, Jason is a bit stressed and not in the mood to play games. I jumped a bit ahead.
Jason
placed the money in the bag, counting it carefully. He had kept it
hidden in different parts of the house in very small amount, to make
sure that everything would be safe in case of robbery. This part of
town wasn’t really safe and he knew that people had been watching
him with a dark eye since he started working so much. Banks had never
been an option either, it would have been troublesome to get so much
money out at once.
He
closed the bag and put the last part of the money in his pocket. Out
of two years savings that would soon be the last swans he would have.
He still needed to work two more years to pay for Clarissa’s
hospital bills, but it was worth it. Her heart had no price and no
efforts were too big to save her.
He
walked out of the room, the first sun was already high in the sky,
but the second was still sleeping. He hated this time of the year.
The night was so short that he felt he never had enough time to rest.
“Good
morning,” Clarissa greeted him.
He
wondered why she always was so energetic in the morning. It had
always been like that, it was the only thing reminding him of the old
her, of her before she was sick.
“Good
morning,” Jason said calmly putting his bag on the table near the
door and coming closer to the bed.
“Why
are you so gloomy? It’s today that everything changes,” Clarissa
said, obviously more optimistic than she was the night before.
“I’m
not gloomy but you should keep some energy for the rest of the day,”
Jason said.
“Soon,
I will have unlimited rainbow energy,” Clarissa said laughing.
“Nothing
has unlimited energy,” Jason answered. He would stop worrying only
after the doctor confirmed that the rainbow was good enough.
“I
just mean in comparison with now,” Clarissa said and she started to
cough.
“See
what I told you, you need to stay quiet, at least for the moment,”
Jason said.
He
helped her back on her pillow and went to get a towel in the
bathroom. Clarissa
was trying to hide her hand filled with blood. He took it from under
the blanket and wiped it with the towel.
“You
knew all along,” Clarissa said, pouting.
“Doctor
Marshall always tells me everything,” Jason said.
He
was not in a mood to play anymore. Clarissa turned her back at him
and looked through the window.
