Thursday Fiction 366: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Magic? Was that what Romulus meant when he said the law of physics had taken a different turn?

“So many questions, I don't know how you do it,” Clara said. “Just watch.”

Romulus had one hand extended toward the water. There were ripples forming but Isabelle put that on the waves and wind acting against each other, or maybe a fish. For sure, Romulus couldn't be the one forming them but at the same time, he was staring straight at the point where the ripples formed. Her mother passed an arm around her shoulders. It was warm and maybe calming, a wave of heat spread through her entire body but then her mind started to race again. She hadn't been that close to her mother in a very long time. And she didn't know what her mother was actually like in other universe, the only one she had ever met had been controlled body and mind by her real mother following her around to make her go back to her own body. If she was to find her now, that would get even worse. She had to get out.

Wednesday Snippet 368: Fairy World 9

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week

Odeon sighed, he wanted to find Lonan but he had a feeling that he was just getting further and further away. He didn't even really know how they arrived here in the first place. One minute they were in the cave, fighting Ramses and the next, they were here in this world and these guys were here again. It seems that their paths were crossing each other all the time. He wasn't sure it was a good thing. They seemed to be attracting trouble like jam attract flies.

"But we came from near that tree, isn't it where the exit is?" Odeon asked.

"Not anymore I'm afraid," Isakael answered.

Odeon looked at Torsti who just shrugged. He had no idea what to do and this World seemed so foreign. He followed the rest of them in silence, looking around as the forest around them grew thicker and thicker and the trees taller and taller until they couldn't even see the sky. It seemed that the trees were taking a strange dark pink color.

Tuesday Travel 165: Witch Raising: The Book of Earth 12

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. This week we are following Brownie on her journey as she is going toward the second element: Earth.

About Witch Raising.

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start right where we left off last week.

Brownie knew this life, she had visited time and time again. The thing she didn't understand was why was this life so relevant that she was always coming back to it. With so many past lifes to choose from, she should have been more than done with it already. She was so small when she died. Maybe that was the reason. Maybe her past self couldn't express herself fully. She hadn't seen much of it all, just a few scenes but still always the same and she wasn't sure she could entangle them.

She wore those very bright colored dresses. The first one was white at the top but then pink at the bottom with a yellow ribbon going all around. It wasn't particularly beautiful but it was sure flashing in the green grass she was sitting on. She was making a corona of flowers. If you asked her to bread that corona now, she would be able to do it just because she had watch herself as a little girl do it many times. She had never done that in this life.

Mystery Monday 161: Murder at the Conference 58

Hello and welcome to a new Mystery Monday.

I hope you had a great week-end. Here is a new little part of Murder at the Conference. Murder at the Conference is a stand alone sequel to Harajuku Kiss.

We start right were we left off last week:

“Or a job... there is a lot of competition in academia, it's only just you who don't compete with anyone because your view of science is a romantic one: “I do physics to increase the interest in general knowledge of mankind and push further our understanding of the universe. Most people are in for money or fame, and awards, and tons of papers, really, it's only you.”

I laughed but somehow I felt that he was right. When people started to complain that our work was competing with experimentally driven theory, yes, theory relying on experiments is a thing, I refused to compete. I just thought that people who would want to know both, it didn't matter. But in a way we are competing for computer time and if people read another paper, they might not have the time to read mine and so on. Competition everywhere, but in science, we really need each other, each of us can do their own thing and if someone stop working on their project it can be years, decades before someone else picks it up. Or it can even be forgotten forever for more "important" things. That's why I don't like it when people in science are forced to retired, they have unique and invaluable knowledge to bring to the world for the future generations and every little helps. And that's why I don't want to enter the competition because we need as many people as we can get to make things progress further.
