Thursday Fiction 309: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last time, with Frederique in the space ship's universe.

"My cabin, I need to be in my cabin, I don't know why I'm here," I said.
"Good," the man said. He let go a little and I looked back at him.
He was smiling in a sort of really creepy way.
"I arranged your meeting with Colonel Tucker," he said. "You will tell him everything I told you and then you will arrange for him to be freed. It shouldn't be too hard, all the evidence about the Mechanics McClad has been arranged, they will be displayed in the command room tomorrow morning before anyone can get there. I have arranged for the pilots to be removed as well. Do you understand?"

He moved over me again to look into my eyes and squeezed my arm once more. This time I didn't flinch.
"I understand," I repeated with a mechanical voice. "I need to go to my cabin, I don't know why I'm here."
"Very good captain, very good, you can go."

He let go of me and I slipped out of reach walking in direction of my cabin for the entire time he was watching me. What a creep! But I had all the information I needed and maybe more. I knew who the hypnotist was, I knew how he had created the code in Michelle's head and I knew what he was planning. I had just been lucky on this one.

Now the first step was to get to the control room and to have Debby dehypnotize Michelle and then I would have to go yell at Fanny once again. This time I was going to make things right, this time I wasn't going to back down until she was totally agreeing with me, that was unless I was to slip away. I needed to hurry. I felt like I had been here forever, a lot longer than I ever had probably.
The girls were there and I could have cried when I saw them because he had said that he had arrange to have them removed and I was so glad that hadn't happen yet.
I walked to the center and stopped between them before starting to talk. I spoke fast and they both had their attention on me as if the drive didn't matter and personally, I didn't care either.
"We haven't seen Fin in a while," Debby said.
"We haven't seen Fin in forever actually as if he had disappeared and Michelle didn't seem worried, we thought they had argued but maybe there is something fishy going on. You need to get Fanny to help with her brother at least, she is not one of them or she wouldn't have reacted the way she did," Clara said.

Wednesday Snippet 312: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

We are following Kamaril in the Demon World.

He placed his hand bellow the chin of the demon and water spread out of his hand entering the body of the demon by his nose and mouth. The demon took a step back raising his hand to his throat, the water escaping Kamaril was still entering him, forcing it's way inside. Tears appeared in his eyes as if he wanted to find a way to get the water out but they stayed their. He felt on his knees.
“No need to struggle, your healing power have no effect here, your air powers can't penetrate my water and your water, well if you still have any I would like to see it,” Kamaril said coming closer. “Now you have a choice, I have an errant to run but I'll be back, if you carefully take care of my shop while I'm away and make sure that I have a warm bed to sleep in, I'll keep you alive.”
The demon nodded.
“You see, I'm feeling pretty generous, so I'll just trust you on your words, don't you dare disappoint me if you want to stay alive a bit longer,” Kamaril said walking to the door.
He released his water out of the demon while opening it. The demon took a deep breath and cough some more water. He seemed that he was going to say something but Kamaril let the door close behind him without asking for more.

“It looks like I just got myself a new business. I better come back care for it before this idiot forget about me,” Kamaril said.
He dug his hand in his pocket and picked up his last coin.
“So tail I go to the sanctuary hoping that they will give me some good news, face I go to the city center and try my chance with the witch,” he said turning the coin between his fingers. He tossed it and it felt back in his palm.
“Face, I guess it's time to give the witch store a little visit.
”

He adjusted his trident on his back trying to make sure that it wouldn't get into his wings' way as he flipped them. Carrying the trident this way wasn't the best thing to do but he had no choice. He couldn't possibly leave it behind and risk to lose it. He had taken a lot of risk for it already even in its crappy shape it was making him feel better to hold onto it.

He took off and headed toward the city center above the streets, houses and trees. Cars were burning filling the air with a lot of smoke. Kamaril felt a lot more comfortable now, looking at the demon world, at his world. Soon he would be dominating it all alone, and everyone wanting to stand in his way would drown just like the man in the store almost did. He was feeling more powerful than ever.

Tuesday Travel 104: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Samantha sighed and gave up.
"Right," she said taking her place with them in the queue. She couldn't understand how anyone of the people eating inside were going to get out before the parade showed up which was going to be in at least one hour from now. If it was her inside, she would stay until the parade was there, most definitely. But apparently it was only her, because the queue started moving a lot faster than expected. One of the waiter finally came outside and handed them the menu.
"Please have a look and let us know what you decide when you enter the restaurant, that way we can start serving you as soon as possible," he said.
"Thank you," Brownie said taking one of the menu for herself and handing the other to Samantha.
"That's pretty efficient," Josh said.
"And they have tomatoes for you," Brownie answered pointing at a salad of tomatoes and mozzarella.
"Yeah but as we are here, I might as well have a pizza," Josh said looking about her shoulder.

"That sounds like the smart thing to do," Brownie said.
"Yes, I really think it's the smart thing to do, you can never go wrong with pizza but they can always have snails in their lettuce," Josh said.
"Wow, gross, I was going to order one of those," Samantha said with a disgusted look on her face.
Josh just laughed.
"Of course, I'm just kidding but I'm sure you'll love your pizza."
"They say it's cooked in a wood fire oven," Brownie said."Nobody can resist that."
"Yeah, a yellow sand fire oven on top of it," Samantha said. "It would be better if it was lion breathe fire though."
"For the lions to spit on your pizza," Josh said.
Samantha elbowed him in the lower rib cage.
"What?"

Mystery Monday 105: Murder at the Conference 2

Welcome to Mystery Monday. This week, we continue with murder at the conference.

Let's get back where we left off with chapter 1 last time.

Christa had been at it for more than an hour looking at her watch occasionally and sighting heavily. She had already printed the small version of her poster and given it to our supervisor and she was waiting for correction.
“Just sit down and read it until you find a typo,” I said finally looking up from my own poster, I hadn't been able to concentrate for a while, my thoughts wondering to the conference and who I might meet there. I enjoyed conferences maybe a bit too much. Traveling was one of the best part of the job. Then there was the never ending talks I tried to understand, others when I just tried not to fall asleep. The people, the new friends I would make or the old friends I would meet again. It was often the same people at conferences, all experts in the field. Then the food, the little cakes and tea during the break, the restaurants for lunch, the massive conference dinner, always with something entertaining happening and people getting drunk and taking about physics all the same. And the evening plans and week-end travels. I had already picked up what I wanted to see, that was on my own money though, but still worth it.
Right now, I just couldn't take Christa walking endlessly anymore.
Christa turned around hands on her hips in position akibo.
“There is no typos!” She said firmly.
“Come on, there is always typos.”
That was a thing I had learned. It didn't really matter how careful you were, a new pair of eyes would always find a typo you had missed and that would throw everything out of balance again, especially in latex where every letter counts. Plus it was infuriating to make silly mistake.
“Maybe because English is not your first language, but it's mine, and I know how to write and how to correct myself, there is no typos, my poster is perfect, I just don't understand what takes him so long,” Christa answered.
