Thursday Fiction 294: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

"Then what are you saying Alex? What do you think I should do? Stay in bed and miss classes every time I miss some sleep due to a night black out? Go to the hospital and have them do more tests as if they didn't do any for the last fourteen years almost daily? Stay in my room and only take online classes or having someone taking the classes for me while I study on books because I can black out any time between here and there? Which one is it Alex?"

Alex was breathing heavily. He was frustrated with me and I knew it but I was tired and I didn't have any spare brain function for trying to be nice and understanding. He knew everything about me. More than anyone had ever known before and still, I felt judged by him, as if whenever he looked at me, he didn't see me but the possible catastrophe hiding behind me blacking out.

The lecture ended and Alex stood up and left without waiting for me and without saying a word. I cursed my awesome people skills and seeing nothing I could do decided to go get some sleep.

Except that I couldn't sleep, all I could do was look at the ceiling without seeing it and contemplating how wrong everything had gone in this universe and in the others. Amy didn't want to be my friend anymore and somehow she might also be betraying Michelle in the other universe and that was my fault because I was too busy hating Tucker for just doing his job. Then there was Fin, he didn't approve of my choices concerning his sister and he was not Alex. Or more exactly Alex was not Fin. The more I thought about them and the less I could distinguish them, they were the same person in two different universes but they looked so closely alike it was impossible not to see one while seeing the other. I wonder if my feelings were because Michelle liked Fin or if they were genuinely mine. I wanted to apologize to Alex for losing my temper. But there was a part of me that was mad at him, because he knew my secret and he was reacting like everyone else, he wanted it gone.

Wednesday Snippet 297: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

This week we are still in the Fairy World with Kelpie and Jezabel.

“Ezechiel, Ezechiel,” Jezabel said in her sleep, just near Kelpie's left ear.

“And here we go, our angel too has a boyfriend and a bad one. Damn, calling the guy who sent her to prison in her sleep,” Kelpie grumbled. “I would rather be deaf than hear things like this.”

He sighed and walked a bit faster, he wanted to get rid of his angel, he didn't need another stupid girl in his life and he felt that this one was even worse than Kallisto.

The floor was flooded in places and he repeatedly slipped on the autumn leafs fallen on the ground. It seemed to him that the forest had changed color a lot while he was captive but he put it on the count of the rain, he didn't stay in the prison all that long even if he had forgotten to count the days. It was said that counting the day helped you keep sane in prison because you would still know that there was something outside but he didn't even start, he had other things to thing about. Somehow his life had crashed, he suddenly felt like crying, in the rain, at least nobody would see his tears.

He had this huge weight on his chest at all time since he was a child. He had always tried to reach his grand-father expectations, to be smart and better than Kordelius at all time. He had even cheated in every possible way but in the end he had failed and he had nothing left except the stupid angel on his back who would certainly be gone soon enough. He didn't even want her in his life, he had never asked for it, he had never asked for anything for himself. His entire life had been a lie, the life of someone else but he had lied so much that he didn't even remembered who he was or what he really wanted. Tears washed by the rain were falling from his horse deep black eyes and rolling on his hairy black horse's skin. He felt as if he was crying the rain.

Crying wasn't painful, it felt like a relief.

Tuesday Travel 87: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

She wasn't really sure why but she felt like she needed to go to the cave and to arrive there early, before anyone. It wasn't like the cave was calling to her, quite the opposite, she wanted to see it because she was scared of it. Because it reminded her another demon cave in another part of the country with real demons, really scary and if she didn't get over herself and got rid of the fear they had put in her heart, she felt like she would never be able to forget her nightmares and to have them go away. The demons scared her, they had always defeated them so far but it would just take one time for her and the others to be defeated, a lot of people she cared about could died and it would be the end. She could died. She had died already, many, many times and she surely didn't want it to happen again unless she was really, really old and at peace with herself and the world, after having lived a full life with fire lion in it.

"Definitely not," Josh said. "This climb is going to take forever," Josh said.

"Actually, it's a short cut," Samantha answered.

"You have to be kidding me." Josh said. "it's two kilometers longer than the normal parade and we are climbing."

"Yes, but we don't have breaks," Samantha said. "The main parade is going to take a big break and go around the city's main place at the center near the largest fountain in the country."

"Which sounds a lot more fun than what we are doing just now," Josh said.

"But the real fun at the fountain is tomorrow with the glass blowers coming in town," Samantha said. "I promise we are not missing anything by being here."

Josh shrugged.

"Well, as long as we beat them to the cave," Brownie said.

Mystery Monday 90: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

And here was my chance!

I had something that needed to be done, and I couldn’t possibly ask anyone else for help.

As planned, it took me eight hours. I stood up and tried to relax my painful legs. I hadn’t moved, I had stayed focus on the letters all the way. I had forgotten to eat or drink. My brain was painful. Not that I had a headache but I was dizzy and my mind was foggy. It was happening to me very often or at least it used to, I hadn’t been able to concentrate on something so intensely for months.
