Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 302

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

The memory of me running in the forest, a lot faster than I was doing now, closer to the ground feeling the mud stick to my legs, feeling the grass and the herbs all around me, the distinct smell of each of them, hearing the cries of the birds. My hand started to change first but I didn’t notice it. I only notice that my shoes suddenly felt too big for me but I couldn’t stop running, I left them one after the other stuck in the mud. I started to breath and smell more easily, the smell of the forest after the rain was opening my other senses and in the same way it had happened in Praha once before, my clothes slide against my thinner wolf body. I didn’t know why and I didn’t know how but I was transforming and I could smell Irina on every branch she had touched.

Once again I was a wolf and I didn’t even ask myself how I managed to change without the moon, not yet, I was too busy trying to find a way to get to Irina. She had run a lot farther than I had expected and that worried me. In the state she was, in her mind she was still pursued by dragons who had probably killed anyone, anything could have happened to her. My nose sniffling the air in front of me, I ran, jumped over the wood trunk fallen on the ground.

When I found her she was sitting on the ground, her hands covering her ears, her face hidden in her knees, it was as if she was five years old again. I tried to speak but only a dog sound went out of my mouth. She startled and looked slowly raised her head. I saw the fear in her eyes growing when she looked at me, if her face hadn’t been so pale, she would have turned white again.

For a moment, she didn’t move and I didn’t move either. I was too busy trying to figure out what to do to bring her back to the hotel to think about changing shape. I looked at her pondering. If she knew I was a wolf things would get even more complicated but I didn’t really have a choice. I had grown attached to this human and I couldn’t let anything bad happen to her. I took a step forward, slowly, it was my hunter instinct calling for the slowness of the movement, I could feel my leg tense, ready to jump on the prey as soon as it would move. Irina still didn’t move though, she just looked straight at me.

Thursday Fiction 291: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

"Are you all right?"

We were on the second lecture this morning and Alex had been whispering for a while but I had trouble to focus on what he was saying and I also had trouble to focus on anything going on on the black board. I was copying whatever the lecturer was writing there without thinking about it.

"I didn't sleep much last night, or at all that I can't remember."

"You've been writing on the table," Alex said.

I looked down at my notes to see that the last five lines had been out of the pages and my equations finished on the table.

"Damn!"

I took a deep breath trying to focus. When was the last time I really slept. Two days ago? I wasn't supposed to be this sleepy. But at the same time I remembered a lot from the Fred at the hospital and now I had Julie's memories in my head at least partially and my brain was feeling a bit like it had the consistency of mashed potato. I put the equations back on paper I'll have to tape at the side of the page later and tried to focus on the lecture again.

"Fred, you should go back, I'll take the notes and..."

"In this state, I can black out any minutes, I could black out walking, the more relaxed I am the easier it is," I said.

"But you are not relaxed, you're tired," Alex said almost taking my hand except I was still writing and he was sitting on my right side so he stopped himself.

"Is there a difference?"

Wednesday Snippet 294: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

This week, we are with Torsti and Odeon.

“I just regret to have told him to not always kill people, he would have protected himself a lot better if he had,” Odeon answered.

“Well he should have though a little better and decided for himself when it is appropriate, we can't keep on treating him like a baby all the time, it becomes very tiring fast,” Torsti said turning on his fire to lit the way.

“You think that it's our fault, that we over protected him?” Odeon asked.

“In a way yes and in a way no. It's not like he didn't need protection either but at the same time coming here with him still so young as if he could fight like one of us was pretty silly,” Torsti answered. “We are treating him like a child and expecting him to be a grown-up demon at the same time.”

“I guess you're right, things will need to change if we find him,” Odeon said with weak resolve.

“I hope you mean when we find him,” Torsti answered.

“Of course,” Odeon answered.

The way was becoming narrower and narrower at each steps and going down, Odeon also turned up the fire in his hand to see where he was putting his feet.

“Bones,” he said, “Everywhere on the ground.”

The bones were cracking as they walked on them.

“What the hell happened in his place,” Torsti answered.

“Do you think it's where we were fighting earlier?” Odeon answered.

“Not a chance, the bones are too old and porous for that,” Torsti answered.

“Do you think that they did it before?” Odeon answered.

“Did what?”

“Locked a bunch of demon in a room and have them fight to death until none survived,” Odeon said.

“Seeing the guys, that wouldn't be too surprising, would it?”

Odeon sighed, he was trying to avoid walking on the bones but there were too many of them.

“I think they died here trying to run away,” he said.

Tuesday Travel 84: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The parade separated into two waves. A large one was going straight to the cave and a smaller was turned into a very narrow street. Samantha made a move to follow the smaller one.

"They are going to the mountain," she said. "They need to meet with others at the second temple up there before going to the cave."

They were now really close to the dance and a small part of the band had follow. The music was a lot calmer with no big drums to play the beat. Somehow, Brownie loved it a lot better.

"You can't be serious," Josh said. "It's like 100 degrees out here and you want to climb the mountain? They don't have food or water up there either."

"It's your only chance to ever see that unless you come back to this festival later. You want to let it pass," Brownie said.

"Damn girls," Josh said following her behind Samantha. "I didn't plane on doing this part, I was just find with missing it until you said it out loud."

"I know," Brownie said.

She hadn't planed on any of this either. She hadn't planned on stopping before reaching the coven in Erhland. She hadn't planed on being a witch and having to go to Erhland at all, she hadn't planed on magic trying to back fire on her especially when Sahel was involved. She hadn't planed on all the nightmares. Just in this life, because you were alive, things didn't go as planed, ever. She wonder if there was a need for planning at all.

"I planned on doing it and I have enough water to go up and down," Samantha said.

"I have water too," Brownie said.
