Tuesday Travel 83: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

She had a lot of siblings and there was always one prone to be a pain and stay behind but they still never really ditched anyone, at least not on purpose.

"Come on, he isn't going to climb to the next temple anyway, we just have to go on ahead and we'll meet him tonight at the hotel, I'm tired of not moving, if he wanted to go shopping, he should have stayed with Marri and Sandy," Samantha said.

Brownie looked back at Josh who was looking at postcards. Samantha had a point, there would be a lot of time to catch up on shopping later in the evening or the next day, the parade was only today and she wanted to see what happened when it arrived at the cave. It would take her longer to get there as they had planned to go to the mountain temple so they had to get ahead.

"Ok," Brownie said. "Let's go."

"We can always pretend that we just lost him in the crowd," Samantha said winking.

Brownie wasn't too sure about that, because as soon as they started to walk faster, Josh came jogging behind them. It was as if he didn't care about the stands around anymore. Something in the energy around had also shifted. Somehow it seemed that Josh really wanted to stay with them, but something more that Brownie didn't understand was happening too. Because under her T-shirt, her aquamarine stone had started to spin against her skin. It was a strange feeling and somehow it seemed to be related to Josh being around even though it was the first time it started to spin today. Brownie tried to test for magic around but she found nothing. The crowd was moving too fast, it was too noisy, ever changing. She wasn't in a great place to concentrate on magic right now. She just followed Samantha and tried to pay more attention to the surrounding and especially the lion statues and the lion dancers who emerged out of nowhere around her. If she was ever to recall to anyone that she had been in Fireden for the Autumn Lion Fire Festival, she needed to remember what those lions looked like even if until now, they had seemed very elusive.
