Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 298

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

“What do you lock your door?” She said throwing herself at me, “Why do you need to lock your door?”
“I don’t know, it’s just an habit, I supposed,” I said placing my hand on her arm to move her away from me. The smell of her blood was way too sweet a temptation as I just woke up and already felt thirsty.
“There are outside, the dragons they landed, I can hear the noises, the horses crying,” Irina said trying to get a closer hold on me but I pushed her away fighting not to bit her. It was the first time I noticed how much of a vampire I was when waking up.
“Stay here,” I said pushing her on the side to get to the door but her fist was clenched at my sleeves.
“Don’t go, we need to escape,” she said tears running on her pale face.
“Stay here,” I said again pushing the thoughts in her mind. She was disoriented for a moment that didn’t last long but gave me the time to escape. I was lacking blood and I could feel it in every cells of my body. I ran down the stairs, I could hear the horses and voices trying to calm them, the inn keepers and Alexej and a third voice. There was nothing unusual though I doubt that they would have stay around dragons too much.
Alexej was standing in front of a carriage making sing in front of horses to appease them but they seemed to be more and more frighten by him.
They were standing on their back feet in front of him, kicking the air in front of him and not letting him come closer. The inn keeper was holding a man, probably the driver, he had fallen from his sit and probably broken his leg in the process. He was training to explain himself but he seemed shocked and in pain and the words getting out of his mouth were incoherent. But there were no dragon in sight, judging by the bite on one of the horses’ front legs, they had been attacked by wolves and had barely escaped.

Thursday Fiction 287: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

"But she can't stop scrubbing," Julie said and her memories flew in me, her mother scrubbing and scrubbing everything they touched in the house, sweeping the floor behind them. Replacing every object they moved and scrubbing her hands with a towel when they forced her to sit. She had to clean, she had to keep cleaning and everything was dirty. I too felt dirty, or more accurately, Julie felt dirty. She wanted to scratch her head and her arm and the itchiness was everywhere in her body. She wanted to take a shower to put the forest away from her. She was spiraling down like her mother.
"Stop," I yelled in her head.
I didn't want to get down there with her. I had seen enough in her memories and what compulsive disorder had done to her mother. I had seen my other self on the hospital bed being blamed for the fire by her mother. Her mother pulling her down with her and definitely not into a rabbit hole, more into a grave. I couldn't go there with her and I wouldn't let her go there as long as I was in this body.
"Stop," I yelled again and the itchiness seemed to be reduced to my head only and behind my ears and I would need to get some Q-tips in there and...
"Stop," I yelled even stronger and I felt Julie's body stiffen out of my control.
"I'm crazy," she said.
"No you're not," I answered.
"You're just normal, no problem whatsoever. All you have to do is taking a deep breath and forget about it, dad is right, you're not your mother," I said.
I knew it wasn't enough that telling someone to stop to fiddle only made them want to fiddle more or even worse, they would stop for a moment and uncontrollably do it again later. There was no way around it. But I was in her own head, if there was anyone who could talk to her, it had to be me.
Julie started to cry even more.

Wednesday Snippet 290: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

“That's Seti's little sister and it seems that she is not up to date with the situation,” Sahel answered.
“She is a pretty obnoxious spoiled brat and you better don't give her too much attention,” Azazel said passing between Samira and the couple making her release the girl with green hair, to go sit on the sofa. There was a big large dark green hole in the wall in front of it.

“I see you didn't have, any luck with this yet,” Azazel said.

A man standing in the corner with what seemed to be a chemistry set grumbled a “No!”
“You better no talk to Viorel, just now,” a blond male said, “Gideon left him alone for the past three days and as he had no results, he is being very touchy about it.”
“Shut up Dylan,” Viorel answered.
“See what I mean,” Dylan whispered to Azazel winking.

“I'm Kallisto, nice to meet you,” the girl with green hair said extending her hand but Samira pushed it violently away.
“What are you? A human? Don't you know how dangerous demons are? My brother is a monster, he destroys everything he touches, you shouldn't be playing with things you don't know.” Samira started.

Kallisto looked up at Seti wondering what was happening.
“Hum, hum,” The girl in Sahel's arms clearer her throat. “First of, you are going to stop accusing people the way you do and second...”
Samira turned to her.
“And who are you, another stupid human playing with the devil, that's so much fun isn't it?”
Brownie slapped her right across the face.
“I'm Brownie and you will have to show a little bit more respect to everyone while you are in this house,” Brownie said, “I'm not impress by little girls throwing tantrum I have seen worse than you.”
“I bet you haven't,” Samira said.
She was about to start something on Brownie but Seti grabbed her by the arm. A strange sensation passed through her.
“Are you going to make me disappear? Go for it, they will all see who you really are, monster!” She said looking at him straight in the eyes.
But Seti didn't waver.
“If you would excuse us for a minute, we need to have a little chat,” he said dragging his sister out of the room.
“Are you going to be alright?” Kallisto asked.
“It will only be for a minute,” Seti answered.

“Hey, girls could you help me tidy up the mess we made on the floor?” the third girl who had been sitting there unaffected all along asked.
“Sorry Saphira,” Brownie said getting back to her to help folding the map. Her hand was still burning from her slapping Samira.

Tuesday Travel 80: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Brownie, Samantha and Josh finally reached the temple. It was made of yellow sand stones which wasn't really weird since they were in the desert after all but the building seemed so much older than anything she had seen so far in town that Brownie had to ask.
"Impressive isn't it?! That's the only building that never burned," Samantha said. "Even when everything around was down to ashes, this building still stood and protected the population hidden inside."
"Why?" Brownie asked. "How is it possible?"
"It's the house of the fire lion, they wouldn't burn their own house," Samantha said.
"Because it's made of sand stone, with absolutely zero air passing through," Josh said. "There isn't a material less flammable in the world. The original site was made of wood from the river side near the mountain so they burned like champ, nothing better. Now they learned and everything is made of yellow sand stones, no more fire problems."
"But this is the desert." Brownie said not really understanding why people didn't use yellow sand stone in the first place if it was so effective.
"It's the end of the desert, the mountain is near and you'll see, they have a lot of trees so a lot of wood." Josh said.
"Not really," Samantha answered. "Just people didn't know how to build with sand stones, it's expensive to make, it takes time and people are naturally lazy, it's way easier to go to the mountain and get some wood to built a house how you know to, instead of learning something new and do it with what you have on hand."
"But they still have a lot of wood," Josh said.
Samantha rolled her eyes and pushed her book toward Brownie. There was a picture of the mountain and the forest surrounding it. The trees were more like small bushes. They called it deep forest probably as a joke or maybe because that was the deepest forest they ever had around. The river seemed to be a very tiny stream mainly made of mud.
So it was weird that they didn't get into the yellow sand stones building. Brownie looked at Josh wondering where he was getting his information and ideas. Maybe there was something out there that wasn't in the book. It didn't seem like Josh was the type to go places and not learn anything. After all, he had been the one insisting that they couldn't stay in the hotel all day and go out just for the music.
