About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Samantha threw him a dead look.
"What is that about?"
"He came to tell me that I would be safer with him because you are an evil witch and plan to sell my soul to the demon in the demon cave later," Brownie said. "I politely decline, therefore I'm gay."
"Oh right, I wasn't expecting that from him, I mean, Samuel could have said that but Josh was ok last night." Samantha said.
"I know, I'm disappointed too."
"Hey, you can join us for the parade," Samantha said to Josh.
She took her own table and Brownie served herself another cup of tea, this time with orange flavor to it before going back to her raisin bread.
The brioche had been pretty heavy and she was finally full.
"Would you teach me some magic?" Josh said.
Brownie rolled her eyes.
"Sure," Samantha answered.
Brownie was burning to ask what color were the candles she burned for protection and how they turned out on their own but she didn't say anything. She couldn't look too interested.
Samantha didn't eating anything at all and they left as soon as Brownie was finished and Josh had stuffed half of his breakfast in his back-pack.

The first stop was the temple and Brownie realised why nobody was in the street because the whole town seemed to be there.
The place was large and decorated in each corner with some huge lion statues which had been decorated with red leafs and branches for the festival. There were paper lamp going from one to the other and several lines of them down to the temple. The crowd was walking toward the temple by waves and with Josh on her right and Samantha on her left, Brownie was carried with them. On the sides, people who had already walked to the temple were waiting or were singing and the drums beat so loud that Brownie could hear them resonate in her chest. It was intense. She couldn't understand how she hadn't heard the noise from her room because it seemed that it was over taking the world. Old women started to tremble and dance frenetically in front of the lion statues.
The crowd broke before they even reached the temple and men carrying a mini shrine passed in front of them, followed by monks in bright red robe designed like fire, carrying torches. For some reasons, Brownie thought that this would have looked a lot better at night and didn't see the purpose of the torches in the middle of the day but as they were going to walk a lot maybe there wouldn't be much light at the end of the trip. Then came the marching band and dancers hidden under lion costumes with very large head and terribly long bodies, all yellow and red and moving from side to side, undulating like a Chinese dragon. Then came everybody else. The crowed passed in front of them and the people moved forward toward  the temple again before turning and following the rest of the procession.
