Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 249

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

“I don’t know,” I answered.
“But you need to do something against those monsters,” she said.
I couldn’t even look at her. I felt the shame on me and my clan for letting the villagers suffer two nights in a row when they had been trusting us.
“He is doing his best, he saved us tonight,” Sorina said releasing the pressure on my arm and rubbing it gently with her fingers.
“The inn is filled up with those monsters,” Sorina’s mother answered.
“You will stay in a room filled with sunlight all day and in the evening, before sunset you will go the the sheepfold again,” I said. “It’s for your safety, until I find something better for you, you need to stay alive.”
Sorina’s mother didn’t answer. I knew that she didn’t like me very much but she had no choice of having me around, there was no way she could say no to the vampires.
I entered the inn first to make sure that everything was alright, Sorina’s father hugged them and thanked me. I made a tour of the inn and help Sorina prepare everything so that they wouldn’t have to go to a dark room. My heart felt heavy when I left her, but I had to hurry back to the castle before sunrise. The door would be closed for the day and there was only one way to get in, but my mother was the only one with the key to that door.
I arrived when the doors were closing, I could almost feel the heat of the sun on my back as I entered the cold stone castle. It was appeasing. If I didn’t know that the humans entering the castle had really little chance to get out of it alive, I would have brought Sorina and her family her or even the entire village until the problem with the British vampire was settled. I needed to sleep but I couldn’t, too many thoughts were turning in my head. I wanted the British vampires to go away but I was also curious about them and about everything they represented. There was so much to discover away from the castle, away from the village and from the mountain of Transylvania, the world was vast but not only on paper maps or in books, now I knew that something really existed far away from here, that there were other like us and that they were also different.

Thursday Fiction 243: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

I knew this buzzing all too well. I blinked three time, I was restrained, great. I opened my eyes fully to the bright light of the brain scan tube. Waking up at the hospital, in this tube, once again. My second thought was that I hoped my mother wasn't around I wanted to sleep, I didn't want to deal with this. I had no idea how I ended up here in the first place. Last thing I remember from this universe was that I was with Alex at the electromagnetic class. Now I had to witness the application of the electromagnetic theory first hand.
"She is awake," the doctor said.
I could have recognized his voice everywhere but he always said that too as if he thought I was never going to wake up again, even after all those years, they had to be kidding me.
"I'm awake and I'm fine, as usual," I said.
My father was here alone. At least who ever sent me here in the first place I called him instead of my mother, that was already a good news. "I'm not sure it's as usual," the doctor said."Can you sit up?"
I sat up. It was as usual. Of course, that world was intense and interesting and the better place to be at on day such as this but well I was back on the ground.
"Then what is it this time? Can I have my brain scans?" I said smiling at him and he looked at my dad.
"I think we should call your mum," the doctor said.
"No way," I answered. "I'm fine."
"Fred, sweety, you were away from five hours," my father said.
Wow, that was new and that was awesome. I always wanted a brain scan of one of my long trip and here was my chance.
"Damn, I missed my salsa class," I said.
Nobody seemed to be interested.
"And your brain activity is also pretty unusual, so I think it will be better for you to stay at your mother for the next few days so that she can bring you here when you black out again," the doctor said.

Wednesday Snippet 245: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“I can take care of those,” Lonan said trying to force pass Kamaril's grip but Kamaril was obviously stronger.
He put a hand on the mouth of the little demon to have him stay quiet hoping that it wasn't too late.
“Rule number four at being a demon: You need to think before you act if you want to stay alive, stay still and wait, it's a though one to learn,” he whispered in Lonan's ear.
The little demon stopped debating himself but Kamaril didn't set him free anyway. He bent holding him to look in the room in front of them.
Three demons were sitting at a table playing cards and it didn't seem to go to well. Lonan couldn't help chuckling looking at them.
“Stay quit,” Kamaril whispered in his hear, “we don't know how many will rush in when they figure out we are here.”
Lonan bite his hand to free himself and run on the other side of the corridor pulling his tongue out.
“I said I can take care of them all,” he yelled rushing in the room throwing fire balls to the three demons who dropped their cards.
One of them felt from his chair trying to avoid one of the ball while the others were already rushing using water to stop Lonan.
“Damn that kid,” Kamaril said as the room filled with vaporized water, he walked to the other end of the room to the next corridor and threw a last look as Lonan. The little demon was laughing as if he didn't amuse himself so much in a long time. Kamaril sighed and continued to run away. He had seen Lonan fight, he sure could take care of these three and if he couldn't that wasn't his problem anyway. He needed to go up there and to get the trident before getting as far away as possible.

Tuesday Travel 34: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

She added two pair of jeans and three shirts, she couldn't take much, she needed to travel light.
“There's something strange with your bag,” Grenadine said.
Brownie was looking for something she couldn't find in her closet, she was sure she had a blue jumper in there, where did it go?
“Yeah I know I sort of tried to sew another pocket on it and it turned one part into shred because it's a plasticized fabric on that side and it breaks down super easy if you go at it with a needle.”
“No, I mean your clothes are shrinking,” Grenadine said, “I swear I'm not crazy, they are way smaller than when they were out, technically, your cloak should have covered the box and be super thick and now it's just on the side near you jeans, it's wear.”
She rose her face from the bag to look at Brownie, inviting her to take a look.
Brownie grabbed a green jumper and a sweater. She would have to do without the blue one which was unfortunate because it had a large collar that would have kept her warm, for some reasons she was afraid of getting cold.
She looked inside the backpack and it was true, her clothes looked as if they could fit a small doll.
She took a shirt out and it was back to it's original size.
Grenadine stroke her eyes,
“Don't do this again, my brain and understand how it works,” she said. “What spell did you put on your bag? I want the same.”
“I don't think it's the bag, I think it's whatever contains what's in the box and everything near it. No wonder Dylan had trouble finding it,” Brownie said.
“Seriously, everything that gets in your bag get shrunken, I would said it's the bag,” Grenadine answered. “Or do you want to open the box so that we can finally see what's in?”
“No, it's the box and that's ok, that's good actually, it means I can bring more stuff.”
“It might be dangerous,” Grenadine said.
“Dylan wouldn't give me anything dangerous,” Brownie said then bite her lips as the sound of it rung so wrong.
Grenadine rose an eyebrow.
“It's Dylan we are talking about, he'll give you the box for you to pack your bag like crazy and when you open it during your journey it breaks the spells and very thing is back normal size and you can't fit it in your bag anymore,” Grenadine said. “That's Dylan style.”
“I'll be careful,” Brownie said.
“I think we should investigate,” Grenadine answered.
“Sorry Gren, I don't have time for that write now,” Brownie said. “I have to go.”
Brownie threw some underwears and a pajama in the bag wondering if she would even have the occasion to wear it.
