Mystery Monday 70: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

They were disorganized. Personally, I would have arranged them by facial feature, that way it would have been easier to memorize the faces as only few characteristics changed. But maybe it wasn’t necessary to remember them all. I mean if people were able to hide on an island they probably didn’t look that much like their picture anymore. Except for one of them, the one who kissed me in Harajuku yesterday, Kobayashi Seiji. I looked at the picture intensely. There were no mistakes. My mysterious Harajuku stranger was wanted for the murder of his older brother Kobayashi Kaji and something else written in kanji that my brain couldn’t come across.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 285

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

She would then, after the mass complain and complain about how it wasn’t a real church and how I would feel so much better in her church when we crossed the border again. I think a part of her wanted to forget what I was and pretending that I was human was making things easier on her, she was almost believing it. I didn’t think I could ever feel comfortable in a church, especially when I knew that if people where to find out who I was, they would not miss to kill me out and run away with fear or pray their god even louder to make sure that I wouldn’t bite them. Me in a church felt like a sacrilege. I didn’t want to tell her about it though, it seemed to be the only thing making her happy to go back to her country. Every time I was trying to ask her why she didn’t want to go back she just said that it would be better for me to drink her blood until she died next time. The truth is I hadn’t drunk a single drop of blood since we left Praha. I kept on using the philosopher stone but I felt that something was missing, I needed blood, I really wanted to combine the effect of the stone and the blood but Irina was still too weak. I wonder why I had chosen someone like her to be my food holder. I could have taken a healthy boy. Maybe there was a part of my that needed feminine company. I could have tried to drink from Alexej but having him fainted for a day would have stop our journey too much, we were still somehow escaping even if all the evidences made it that the vampire would look for me in the opposite direction.

We reached Krakow on a foggy morning, Alexej had said that we were really close and he wanted to ride all night. Irina complained a lot about it because it was the same as staying one night in the inn and finishing the next day except that we would be tired upon arrival instead of fresh and ready to explore. Once again, she was right. I indulged Alexej this time though because I was also in a hurry to reach Krakow, to explore the city, get more books and more important than all, to stay in one place for more than a night.

Thursday Fiction 275: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

The smell of antiseptic was the first thing I noticed. I was once again back to the hospital. I blinked three time to make sure I was in a different universe. I didn't think anyone could break in my room to get me to the hospital but I needed to be sure. I wasn't in my pajama and there was no brain scan around. I had definitely to be in one of my other selves body but I felt disoriented. I looked around to see that I was still in the same room where I had left this version of me again and my mother was sitting. I felt the distress in my other selves body as her mother's word reached me.
"It was all your fault wasn't it, the fire, I told that to the policeman and the fireman and I'll tell anyone who asks me. You can't take care of yourself. What happened? You left the oily pan near the fire after cooking? Or did you put bread in the microwave? I told you it's always under a minute, you can't trust their clock, you have to warm things one minute at a time and reset the machine," my mother said.
Anxiety rushed through me.
"Mum," I said trying to keep the voice of my other self even.
Her mother smiled at me.
"What is it sweety? I'll take you home soon and..."
"Shut up!" I said.
She looked shocked as if I had slapped her across the face.
I remembered my thought in the kitchen when that I was messing up my other selves life but I couldn't take it anymore and my other self was about to have a nervous break down. I could feel it all over my body and I realized I had never been so skinny in any universe. I was here because of my other self's anxiety. My anxiety over Amy not being around anymore because of Tamara was new, but her anxiety was not and it had reached for mine and two universes were collapsing into one.

Wednesday Snippet 277: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“That's none of your business,” Isakael answered backing out to the door.
He turned around slowly, expecting Ezechiel to jump on him to stop him but the other angel didn't.
“You don't know who you are dealing with,” Ezechiel answered as Isakael opened the first door.
“I don't care too much about that,” Isakael answered. “As you know, I'm not really part of this world.”
Isakael closed the door behind him and opened the next in a hurry bumping into a tall angel as he went out. He was tall with shining blond hair and Isakael recognized him as another permanent member of the conceal. He grabbed Isakael by the wrist and pulled his arm up.
“What are you doing here kid? It's a dangerous place recently,” he said.
“I'm leaving,” Isakael answered.
The angel let go of him.
“If I were you I'd be careful, the place is filled with spies,” the angel answered.
Isakael nodded. There was something in his voice that he liked but he couldn't tell what it was.
“Follow the white powder,” he whispered.
Isakael started running in the corridor as fast as he could, the other angel opened the door of Ezechiel's office without bothering to knock.
