Mystery Monday 32: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

“One gone ten found.”

My mum's implacable logic after my first break up still resonates every time my feelings are hurt. I was crying my eyes out, a hug would have helped. Crying over a guy is sure degrading, but not being able to cry is even worse. This time, I was not crying, I was waiting for a crepe expecting my boyfriend back in three days.

He had been running for a while. I knew because sweat leaked on his face and his black hair glued to his forehead. He came from the main road above and pushed people to run, but he stopped in front of me. It wasn't parallel synchronized randomness, because I wasn’t moving. He turned his head back as expecting someone and dug his hands deep in is coat pockets. He made a strange, unexplainable impression on me. He stood close to me, closer than a stranger should. I wanted to move but my body refused to obey. It was like finally being with someone in this place, on purpose, instead of being anonymously part of the crowd, like having a reason to be here, a reason coming from my poor imagination of dumped girl.

WeWriWar 303: The House at the Crossing 8

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

I decided to change things a little bit so for the next few months, I'm going to present you my new WIP. It's called "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.
It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first come into the House. It's suppose to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Since it's a WIP, and I still haven't finished the first draft, it's still really row. Hopefully, we'll see some improvement as it goes.

Let's start right at where we left off last week!

There are footsteps behind the door. They seem to belong to a lot of people but when the door opens, only aunt Teresa is standing there. Or at least, I supposed it's aunt Teresa since I never met her before. She is tall and old. It's a bit strange to think that she is the only relative I have left, this very old lady, with my son and disappeared daughter and parents who don't really care. She is all I have left and somehow that seems a bit comforting.

“Welcome my dear Marguerite,” Aunt Teresa said with a voice that sounds a lot younger than she looks.
She looks at me and at the two others in turn.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 246

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

When they had seen the British vampires arrived two days ago, they had for a moment thought about salvation that finally something was happening, that finally the vampires could be overcome by the new comers giving them a chance to escape their fate. But they had soon changed their mind. There was nothing good about the new vampires, they were many of them and they were strong and fast and them didn’t respect the rules and didn’t care about the taxe of blood. They had entered the village two night before and had taken room in every in. Some were staying at Sorina’s father. He was scared. He had hidden Sorina and her mother in the room on the top floor. I knew it was useless, that vampire could smell the humans and the blood running into them from far away but apparently the new comer didn’t really care for the hunt, they were grabbing indifferently everyone coming close to them and drinking them until there was on a drop of blood left in their body. After traveling from so far, I could have imagine that they were really thirsty, I didn’t know that there were many humans away from the village, of course I had heard about towns but I had always suspected that they were under a taxe of blood and that there were no way for new vampire to drink from humans without being punished. I thought that what happened on the first night was an accident because they didn’t have a choice. They would drink from everyone, even the one who had very little blood, were too old to give any energy or were sick. They looked to me as if they were under a terrible thirst and unable to control themselves. I was sure and convinced that it would only happen once. But I was far from the truth. I didn’t want to leave Sorina yesterday night but I had too so I made her father promise me that he would hide her and her mother out of town during the day in the forest, far away from the new comers in a place where it would be impossible for them to come and smell their blood. We had chosen the sheep house. Sorina’s father still didn’t trust me. I thought that if I were him, I would at least given me the benefice of the doubt after all there were not a single vampire except for me who would stay all night near a girl without drinking her blood. Vampire didn’t stay near a girl for conversation. They had enough to do in the castle and more interesting one. What could young girl possibly have interesting to say to someone who had lived for centuries?

Thursday Fiction 240: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay
Let's start right where we left off last week.

And I rose my hand. A few more hand came in the end and Lieutenant Fin started to move around the crowd, counting. I was counting too damn it. Tucker was counting too.
"176 votes for the captain against 65 for general Tucker," Lieutenant Fin finally said.
"That's impossible, you changed the count in her favor," Tucker said menacing Fin with his fist.
The council members looked at each other and the one closed to me with his long white bear stood up slowly.
"We can see from here that the count is 178 votes for the captain and 65 for you general. You want your pilots to be included, don't you captain?"
He seemed to be smiling, but it was a strange smile without moving up the corners of his lips. It was still reassuring.
"Yes," I said loud and clear, "everyone aboard this ship has equal right to a vote."
"In that case, this leaves you in charge, please take good care of us and lead us to Antares."
I could feel the vibration of animosity running through the council members who hadn't vote for me but they all stood up and left the room first.
"Thank you for trusting me and for those of you who don't trust me yet, I will not fail you either. Now you can go back to your post and let's get out of this asteroid belt together."
If we had had drinks I would have given a toast to Antares or to democracy, or to both.
Tucker stood straight as an I but he seemed to have lost his dot.
"This won't end here," he said.
I smiled.
"I know."
I turned to two of the guards left in the room.
"Get him out of my face, he is assigned to his cabin without possibilities to communicate with anyone onboard or back home. Please make sure to enforce the rule by any mean necessary."
"You can't do this, if the confederation doesn't hear from me..."
