Thursday Fiction 236: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Is that it?" I asked Tucker.
"What else do you want me to say. The confederation wants you out, you are a danger for yourself and for the rest of us. I'll take care of this ship and bring us all home!"
"All right then, my turn." I offered the crowed a large smile.
They calmed down and mostly focus on me. I took it as my turn to start.
"What can I say, I'm a brat!" I paused and looked at them.
"They gave me the ship, you would guess that means I can do it, right? I know every single little part of the engine and of the computer program on it. I know how it works, why? Because my father said it was important. You know, it runs in me, the hereditary law says so. But genes are not enough. Are my genes going to tell me how to fix the second engine when it is sabotaged. I'm sorry to break the news so abruptly to some of you but there are people in here who want to stop our mission of badly, who are so scared of what is awaiting us in the unknown part of the universe that they would rather sabotage the ship than let us win. Because it's all about winning. I know that people have already been to Antares but the datas are not accessible, even to your captain, which make us pioneer. Which make us of the race of our ancestors, the one who decided that their planet wasn't enough and that they wanted to see the world, to figure out for yourself. So yes, I'm a brat and I don't follow the rules. I decided to change the way we defend ourselves instead of using a method which has long been uncovered by the enemy. What happened? Did it fail? Did we die? No! We are all still standing here to discuss it. It wasn't an easy decision. It was a decision of trust. I trusted Lieutenant Fin's calculation and it works. We had almost no damage. What would have happened if I had followed the rules? Would the enemy have seen through our usual preparation? Maybe, maybe not. The thing is I did what was right and it works. When you go to the cafeteria, do you ask the cook if he followed the recipe? Did you check if the flavor is exactly the same it was the last time you ate? No, you trust that the cook even if he decide to slightly modify the recipe will still know how to please you palate, because he is a cook. That's his job."

Wednesday Snippet 238: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

Isakael remembered Sahel's deep blue wings but that wasn't really what worried him the most at the moment. He was surrounded with angels and they all seemed extremely hostile to the girl because of her wings color. What would they do to him right here and now if they were to find out that his wings had an uncontrollable tendency to turn black.
“She was born an angel, but she might have made a pack with the devil to gain powers or wealth and that's her retribution,” someone else's said.
“We must search the Demon World and make her pay for her betrayal!”
A lot of people seemed to agree. Isakael was feeling more and more uncomfortable.
“Silence!” One of the permanent member walked to the edge of their platform and yelled into his microphone. The Larsen effect painfully filled everyone's ears.
He stood back a little before starting to speak again. It was Ezechiel, one of the younger member and from where he stood, Isakael could see the ambition on his face. He didn't like the guy very much and had a feeling that he needed to do exactly the opposite of what he was going to be told.
“She can't have gone very far. From here, there is only liaison to the Demon Worlds and the Human World, thoroughly search all of them. It's a top priority missing but don't forget that she was one of us and that you need to show her compassion. She needs to be brought back here alive, we need to know how her wings change color and to make sure that it is not contagious. The devil can take many forms, make sure you are prepared for what is to come because it could be one of the most challenging fight in the angels history.”
He marked a pause and smiled.
“The truth and the love of God will always prevail.”
“Amen!” “Amen!”

Tuesday Travel 27: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Dylan had the habit to enter the house from the kitchen window when he came back from a hunt late at night, or more accurately, early in the morning. It had the advantage to be often opened to help remove the smell from the humans' cooking and not to be a door. The thing was that for a vampire, you never really know if you are going to be able to cross the door. Of course he had already been invited in but if for some reason the ownership of the house changed or someone put a prank on the house, well the door didn't feel that safe especially if he was in a hurry for some shadow. He had never really considered that a window would be as bad and keep him stuck outside he just weren't thinking that far. Truth was he was way more comfortable flying in and landing to close the curtains than landing outside and open a door that might be locked.
He had distracted Sahel just long enough for Brownie to slip out, it took the girl forever. At times, the vampire wondered how human could do anything. She had almost broken her cup of tea climbing on the edge and she hadn't even bothered to be careful with the curtains. Now he would have to check for sunburns and use Daciana stupid banana coconut sun cream. It smelled terrible, like fruits and what vampire wanted to go out in the sun anyway, smelling like a coconuts, like seriously.
“Thanks for the help,” Brownie said entering the vampire's den.
“No worries.” Dylan said.
Viorel was sitting at his desk and Daciana seemed to be asleep on the couch facing the wall. Most likely she didn't want to participate to anything going on.
“Are you sure that's how you want to do it though?” Viorel asked.
“No, that's not what I want to do,” Brownie said. “What I want is a boyfriend who supports me in my choice to get to the magic retreat to get better at fixing it inside of me. What I want is to have Antoine taking me there, so that he would know where I am and be able to bring Sahel or any of you there whenever you need me. But that's not going to happen, because if anyone ever know where I am, Sahel would come, not on a friendly term and I can't guaranty anyone safety. I can't even guaranty you'll be ok with him around if I'm not here, not anymore.”
“We'll take care of everything here, I know that it will be hard without your magic around especially after what you did for Kallisto. There are a lot of things we can do that nobody was aware of and probably even more than that that not even you are aware of but you can't continue using it while you have some spell menacing to back fire. And we all know that, so you go, do what you have to do, and we'll held the fort while you are away,” Viorel said.

Mystery Monday 27: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

A French maxim goes: “Mieux vaut être seule que mal accompagnée.” Better be alone than in bad company. I guess that’s why I’m always alone when I come here, to forbid bad company to break my dream of a romantic date. Even though, at this moment, my dark thoughts refused to leave me alone.

People always think I am strong but I can get well-bottom-deep low for a guy. As if relationships don’t suit me or something like that. I only attracted problematic men. No matter how much I wanted a loving relationship, I stayed with guys like my ex-boyfriends until they forgot to show up while remaining on my mind. It is said men know almost right away if the woman they are with is the one and that women are more undecided. But me every time I got a new boyfriend I hoped he was the one, and treated him as such.
