Mystery Monday 83: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

When I opened the folder though, I realized what had really held me back: Japanese. Not wanting to invade Seiji's privacy had just been an excuse.

The two documents there, just letters, one very long, six pages in total with indentation as if the writer wanted to give instruction. And a second a lot shorter, half a page. The first one had been written about four and a half months ago while the second one had been written a little bit more than three months ago. They were both signed Kaji. Here was the key of the relation between Seiji and his dead brother or should I have said assassinated dead brother.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 297

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

But he was right, the more I was looking at Alexej the more I could see something like a predator inside of him. I wonder for a moment if that wasn’t what the horses had been feeling lately as well, a change in him just like I now noticed the change in me. But we still had ten days before the full moon. This couldn’t be. It had to be my mind playing tricks on me, making me over analyse everything around me.
I finished my breakfast in the calm and went back to my room to sleep. A part of my wanted to use the philosopher stone but another part of me wanted to rest and thought that it wasn’t really a good idea to use it in the middle of the day even with my door locked. Irina could call for me anytime.

For a while, I sat on the armchair near the window looking at the forest. The morning fog at cleared up and the wood showed it’s dark green colour. The perfume of grass, wet earth filled my room forcing me to witness the end of the summer. It was autumn already and too cold for my taste. Autumn had never been so cold before.

In Transylvania, Summer was long and winter short, I could have still been running in the wood at night and bathing in the river without needing a towel to dry myself. I was starting to feel home sick. I had so many memories coming back to me lately I wanted more of my home country, I wanted back everything the vampires had stolen from me, my home, my parents, my happiness and most of all Sorina. I had lived most of my life without knowing her, spending only the last few years with her but she was still what I missed the most. Looking at the forest was making things worse.

In the city, there was not much to remind me of my village, on the road it was all passing too fast for me to pay attention and Irina was here to distract me with some language study or translating me the diaries. But not that we had stopped running away for a while, I could feel the tension escaping me, my shoulder who were so stiff falling lower on my body, my muscle relax. I didn’t like it. I needed to be tensed and prepared but I couldn’t help it, my nerves needed a break. It was one of the reasons why we had stopped and why I was in such a hurry to arrive here but now I realised it might not have been the best idea I had so far. I felt asleep without noticing and was awoken by Irina knocking at the door as if her life depended on it. I jumped on my feet and went to the door in a hurry, forgetting the keep in the bed side table. She still had the mark of her pillow on her check and was barefoot trembling from top to bottom.

Wednesday Snippet 289: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

“Let's go,” Sahel said trying to get their attention on something else. “And Az, keep your murderous thought at bay! How the hell did the barrier reject you again anyway?”
“He tried to land too close to the house, I told him not to but he didn't listen,” Evalynn said looking up, she seemed a little better, “As usual.”
“As usual and here we go again, it's all good old Az's fault, bite me,” Azazel said.
“Is that an invitation?” Evalynn asked.
“Maybe,” Azazel said laughing.
Samira looked at them with a disgusted air on her face, that was the guy who had hurt Taram earlier, these people were weird and she didn't want to stay too close to them. Sahel walked toward the house and they followed him, Samira felt a weird tickle but didn't bother to talk about it, as in might have been the barrier they were talking about.

Inside the house was even stranger and very noisy. It seemed filled with animation and Samira regretted her calm and quiet house even more. As Seti was away or locked in his room most of the time, she had been the only child there.
“And thirty-five!” they heart someone yell from behind a door on the left.
“Dylan I told you to stop counting them, it only reminds me that we keep on failing to keep them outside,” Someone answered.
“And we needed to concentrate here as well,” a girl voice said.
“What are you girls doing sitting on the floor in a place like this,” Sahel said pushing on the door.
“Seti,” a girl with green air exclaimed standing up to rush to hug Seti.
“And here she breaks the circle again,” the girl who had complained before said.

“I guess we have to stop for today.” She stood up and hugged Sahel. “We were trying to locate Kelpie again, first we were doing it near the pond because that's where he left most of his energy but these two babies girls don't like to stay outside when it's too dark.”
“Hey, Brownie, you were the one complaining that it was getting cold,” the girl in Seti's arms said.
He stroked her air gently.
“So any news?”
“You know you are not supposed to do that!” Samira yelled.

She grabbed Kallisto's hand and tried to pull her away from Seti.

“Stay away from him, he makes people disappear and it's really painful.”
“And who the hell are you?” Brownie asked crossing her arms on her chest.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Samantha threw him a dead look.
"What is that about?"
"He came to tell me that I would be safer with him because you are an evil witch and plan to sell my soul to the demon in the demon cave later," Brownie said. "I politely decline, therefore I'm gay."
"Oh right, I wasn't expecting that from him, I mean, Samuel could have said that but Josh was ok last night." Samantha said.
"I know, I'm disappointed too."
"Hey, you can join us for the parade," Samantha said to Josh.
She took her own table and Brownie served herself another cup of tea, this time with orange flavor to it before going back to her raisin bread.
The brioche had been pretty heavy and she was finally full.
"Would you teach me some magic?" Josh said.
Brownie rolled her eyes.
"Sure," Samantha answered.
Brownie was burning to ask what color were the candles she burned for protection and how they turned out on their own but she didn't say anything. She couldn't look too interested.
Samantha didn't eating anything at all and they left as soon as Brownie was finished and Josh had stuffed half of his breakfast in his back-pack.

The first stop was the temple and Brownie realised why nobody was in the street because the whole town seemed to be there.
The place was large and decorated in each corner with some huge lion statues which had been decorated with red leafs and branches for the festival. There were paper lamp going from one to the other and several lines of them down to the temple. The crowd was walking toward the temple by waves and with Josh on her right and Samantha on her left, Brownie was carried with them. On the sides, people who had already walked to the temple were waiting or were singing and the drums beat so loud that Brownie could hear them resonate in her chest. It was intense. She couldn't understand how she hadn't heard the noise from her room because it seemed that it was over taking the world. Old women started to tremble and dance frenetically in front of the lion statues.
The crowd broke before they even reached the temple and men carrying a mini shrine passed in front of them, followed by monks in bright red robe designed like fire, carrying torches. For some reasons, Brownie thought that this would have looked a lot better at night and didn't see the purpose of the torches in the middle of the day but as they were going to walk a lot maybe there wouldn't be much light at the end of the trip. Then came the marching band and dancers hidden under lion costumes with very large head and terribly long bodies, all yellow and red and moving from side to side, undulating like a Chinese dragon. Then came everybody else. The crowed passed in front of them and the people moved forward toward  the temple again before turning and following the rest of the procession.
