Wednesday Snippet 288: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

“It's safe there and your brother is waiting for you,” Sahel said.

“I don't want to see him,” Samira said not moving.

Sahel took her arm and pushed her to face the window.

“I'm sure we can arrange that, he is probably busy with his girlfriend anyway,” Sahel said.

“Girlfriend, Seti has a girlfriend? How is that even possible,” Samira said starting to follow Sahel without even noticing it. “How do they? Does she even know that...”

“He is a demon? Yes, she does,” Sahel answered.

“No, I mean, does she know what he does? That everyone he touches can just disappear, poof, into thin air and that it gets worse if he is mad or emotionally unstable?”

“Oh, yes, she knows,” Sahel answered.

“And she is still dating him?” Samira said opening eyes so big that Sahel thought they were going to pop out of her face.

“Well, why don't you ask her how wonderful your brother is when you get there?” Sahel asked.

“I'm not sure I want to talk to her,” Samira answered.

“Hum, I see,” Sahel said flying a little bit faster.

They landed in front of the house. Evalynn in Azazel's arms and Seti, turning into circle, were waiting for them.

“What are you doing here? Why didn't you enter?” Sahel asked. He looked had Evalynn's hair and the answered seemed totally obvious, they were green once again.

“That evil barrier of yours refused to let us in once again, see the result,” Azazel said turning around to show him that his jeans was burned near the ass.

Sahel couldn't repressed a laugh.

“I told you to stop being demons when you get here, so many times already,” he said.

“That's easier said than done,” Azazel answered. “Seti could go through without problem but he decided that he was worried. What a joke! He could have called your girl for help or something.”

“Are you alright?” Seti asked walking to Samira.

“I'm fine,” she answered drily.

“See, I told you so,” Azazel said putting his hand on Seti's shoulder. Samira took a step back horrified.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Brownie had tried to find magic in them all at diner yesterday night at diner and there hadn't been anything at all coming from any of them. She would have love for Samantha to be a witch because she liked the girl and she knew they could be friend but she wasn't sure anything Josh said was true at all. It didn't sound like a proper magic ritual.

"That's to say," he added. "I think you better hang out with me today, instead of hanging out with her."

Brownie hid the lower half of her face behind her cup of tea which was now at a pretty nice temperature and looked straight at Josh.

"Nice try," she said. "But I don't believe you."

"Ask the others, seriously," Josh said.

"I don't need to."

"You're going to the demon cave together, she might sacrifice you to them and steal your soul and..."

"Josh, listen, you're nice and all but there is no witch around and I know you're cool and like to hang out with Sam and the others and that's fine but seriously, Samantha is way better company for me," Brownie said.

"Oh, I got it, you're gay," Josh said. "Sorry, I didn't notice earlier."

"I'm not," Brownie said.

"That's ok, not my problem," Josh said picking up his plate and cup and walking to he furthest table he could find.

Brownie shook her head and looked back through the window. Samantha was coming her way. For some reason, she entered through the bakery door instead of the hostel door, like Josh and her had done.

"They told me you were here," she said looking at Brownie. "I was wondering if you would be up on time, generally when people are supposed to get up to do stuff with me, they always bail on me."

"I heard about the magic ritual you performed last night," Brownie said.

She stood up and follow Samantha to the tea counter.

"What was that about?"

"Self protection. I know you have a room all for yourself but when you have to share with strangers, you need to make sure they don't come close," Samantha answered.

She served herself a cup of coffee that smelled so strong that Brownie had to take a few step away not to gag. Nothing was worse than the smell of coffee in the morning.

"So you really did magic," Brownie said.

"If someone ask you, you say yes," Samantha said and she wink.

"If you ever make out, I want to watch," Josh said.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 295

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“So what do you propose we do about those dragons?” I said trying to change the course of the conversation.
I could deal with Irina alone, I thought I could also deal with Alexej even if he was mostly evasive to me, I still hadn’t forgotten that my powers didn’t work on him. But I didn’t want to stay in between them nor take either of them’s side.
“We do nothing about the dragons and we just mind our own business. I know you want to stay here for a while, better finish what you have to do as soon as possible and keep going. They have good food here and plenty of it, the horses will be rested in no time. Give them three days and we can go, give them four and they will be racing like champions,” Alexej said.
One thing I knew about myself was that I was really bad at taking care of my own business. There was nothing to it really, I just wanted to know more about the dragons. I resolved to take a rest for the day to calm Irina and Alexej’s apprehension and I would go in the city tomorrow to check for myself.

The inn keeper brought us the breakfast more than one hour and a half later, I was hungry, Irina had already joined us at the table. I had to go through the conversation between her and Alexej, they drove me insane. She wanted to talk about leaving as soon as possible and Alexej only talked about horses. The conversations were being mixed by some
“Tell that dreaded driver of yours that” and “tell the lady that.”
In the end I finally took my courage and stood for myself standing up at the same time slapping my hands on the table.
“If you have something to discuss, do it yourself,” I said and went to sit at another table by the window.

Thursday Fiction 285: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

I blinked three times to make sure I wasn't with Alex anymore. I could still hear his voice at first and then the noises of my own world vanished to leave only place to the wind blowing in my hair, the river flowing down in front of me, the birds peeping and the twig snapping under my feet as I walked. I stopped near the river and looked around. It was the farm universe, there was not doubt about it, but it seemed different. My hands weren't dirty and scorched and my clothes looked a lot better too. This version of me didn't help her mother grow vegetables, that was a certainty. But the wood was familiar, I had been there before. I looked around, trying to figure out why I had been dragged here from my world. My other self was alone in the wood. I sat on a stone where I had sat many times before. The wind blew on my face and I felt the tears on my chicks.  Another version of me in distress, I couldn't help myself from thinking and I sighed. I had no idea where I was and I had no idea why she was crying and I couldn't really feel any connection with her. If it wasn't for the wind I wouldn't have known she had been crying.
Did I just come here to invalidate my new theory that strong emotions were the reason why I could communicate with the other me?
"Julie, here you are," someone said behind me.
I turned around and my dad stood there in front of me. Julie, that was a new one, I didn't recall being called Julie before, this was my first Julie version of me. I was Michelle or Frederique and I knew the reason for that, who could have decided to call me Julie. Oh, that was the name of my great-grand mother, on my father side. Great so I had a dad related name which meant a universe where my dad wasn't completely out of my life and of course one of the reason why he was here in front of me.
"I told you it would be a bad idea," my father said.
