Thursday Fiction 283: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Not really," I said.
Alex sight. He was obviously confused but I didn't want to discuss Amy's story with him.
"So we go to class and finish recording your trips during lunch break? We have two hours today."
"Yes, but actually, something new came up," I said. "I talked to her, one of my other self, she was having a conversation with me in her head."
"And how does that worked?"
"I have no idea really," I said.
"Are you sure you weren't dreaming and that was an effect of discussing it with me?"
"I already ruled that out," I said.
"How?"
"I went back to the place where I felt the feelings of the other me the more strongly," I said. "She was in great distress and I think that might actually help break the barrier between us or something."
"I'm not sure how emotions could control the atomic world, really I'm not convinced," Alex said.
"Because they are waves," I said. "Have you ever heard the terms: a wave of anger passed through the crowd or a wave of joy filled my body?"
"Yes but..."
"No buts, they are waves, if you look at the brain during intense emotion it emits waves, like alpha waves or delta waves or I don't know for sure because I'm not there yet in the neuroscience class but the brain emits waves. So if her brain was emitting some sort of waves, they could communicate with my brain here," I said.

Wednesday Snippet 284: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week

They were two of the demons guarding the entrance. Sahel knew they were Watcher because somehow they smelled different than the Nephilim he knew. They smelled like lemon. It was a weird smell, Sahel had never met anyone who smelled like lemon before. It seemed too clean for demons. One of them was massive with a large coat making him look even bigger and the other one was really tiny. Sahel wondered if it was a recurrent joke in the demon world. Something Brownie had taught him. Bad demons always come in pair one big and stupid one small and smarter, the stronger they are, the bigger the horns. It had made him laugh at first but it had always proven to be true. He wondered if they noticed it themselves or if it was some sort of law. But these two had pretty big horns and Sahel couldn't let them go anywhere near the kids. He took a deep breath to give himself strength and confidence and decided to opt for the frontal approach.
“Beautiful night isn't it,” he said walking toward them with his hands in his pocket. Brownie would have some sewing to do again because his fists were already ready to burn. He looked up as if he was contemplating the stars.
“What is he doing here?” the larger one asked his friend.
“I'm watching the stars, it's one of my hobbies, see those three stars aligned over here,” Sahel said pointing at the sky, they are cold the belt of Orion, they are part of the Orion constellation.
“Really?” the large demon asked again looking at Sahel's finger.
“Get back inside if you don't want to get hurt,” the smaller demon said.
“Yes, get back inside,” the larger one repeated as if he finally remembered why he was here.
“I'm really sorry but I can't do that you see, I'm expected somewhere else,” Sahel said punching him in the face with his fist full of fire. The check of the demon started to burn with a black mark and he clapped himself to extinguish the fire.
“Who the hell are you?” the smaller demon asked.
“It depends who you ask,” Sahel said, “I think you guys in the Watcher side of town likes to call me the phoenix, if I'm not mistaken.”

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"I heard about that, I was wondering if you were already open for breakfast." Brownie asked.
"We never close, come to the other side and pick whatever you want. It's 10 for breakfast with tea or coffee, 12 if you also want orange juice, made with fresh oranges from the city orchade and the food is unlimited so eat as much as you want."
"Right," Brownie said.
No wonder that he was staying up all night backing, if everyone was to eat as much as they could.
Brownie followed him to the other side. It was a backery with a few tables near the large glass windows and definitely too much bread for a small hostel.
"You are also a baker," Brownie said.
"Well, my father was the baker, so when my parents diedI took up the business. It's a really big house I got here so I'm renting the rooms as a bed and breakfast and because there are a lot of hostel and restaurant in this part of town I'm also delivering them bread and croissant."
"That's sounds like a lot of work," Brownie said.
So far she had seen no employer in the building.
"Yeah, can't say it isn't but I have nothing else better to do," he answered. "So what are you having."
"A cup of tea and two butter croissant," Brownie said.
"Nice start," he places the croissants on a plate he handed to her. "The teas are over there, just get whatever flavor you like and come back to help yourself if you need anything else."
Brownie walked to the side where the teas where lining up. There were so many flavor she had no idea where to start. She could have just stayed here all day to just drink tea but that didn't seem like a good idea. She had a lot of things to do. She decided for a safe Earl Grey for today as she had to move around town quite a bit and couldn't take any risk being sick with a flavor she didn't know and went back to one of the table. She sure wanted to try something else but with only four days here that was only four morning teas she doubted she would be able to try too many.

Mystery Monday 78: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

“Sugoi!” Great! I exclaimed opening the second folder.

I was always using Japanese words randomly. Well, randomly wasn’t really the real term for it, it was more arbitrary. One of my friend would definitely correct me for using random here. Random is different. Random is totally unpredictable and my vocabulary was definitely not. I’m pretty sure Sugoi is top of the list of most used words in the Japanese language.

And random was anything but what I had in front of my eyes. I opened another folder and there it was again, the same organization.
