Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 289

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

“We still need rooms,” I answered. I wanted to push the though in his mind but after fourteen days without blood, the effects of it had had been fainting a lot. Hopefully it wasn’t necessary.

As you wish,” the man answered taking a book from behind the counter, “What name is it?” He asked. I hadn’t thought about a fake name but I knew I couldn’t give my own.

“Cosmin,” I answered. It was a sort of joke I supposed but it was the only name coming to my mind. If anyone was to ask for a vampire they would be told that Cosmin were here, so far so good except that the man didn’t seem to know how to spell it and spend a long time staring at me and at the notebook. He finally wrote Abcd and turned around to pick up some keys.

“I’m alone here, my wife and children left to her mother, though it won’t run smoothly you’ll have to be patient, I’ll send a letter for her to come back,” he said handing me three rusty keys, “How long are you staying?”

“About two weeks,” I said. If the only problem around here was dragon I could have stayed forever just the idea seemed ridiculous. Irina was still clinging at me as if her life depended on it. I knew she was going to argue the stay as soon as she would be in her room.

The little man left behind the counter and walked toward the black wooden door at the end of the room. The room was large and I could see by the dust on some of the tables that the business had been slow for a while. Still, he didn’t seem too happy to see us stay here. I was sure I wasn’t going to be killed by a dragon but I wondered why he seemed so afraid of it. The door grinned as he opened it and the corridor leading to the stairs was dark. He pressed on one of the door, this is your third room. It was the one I intended to give to Alexej and something in my felt releaved to see that he would be staying at the bottom of the stairs. If there was trouble, he would be the first one alerted and I could count on his lack of discretion to wake me up. I left the key in the locker and the door open mentioning to the little man that a third one would be coming in later on and was taking care of the horses. The man didn’t seem too pleased about the horses staying here and let me know that it was forbidden to let the horses go outside. A detail I would have to convince Alexej about later on. We proceed toward to the stairs. It was dark and I left Irina go first after the little man. She wasn’t really sure where to put her feet and I was ready to catch her in case she missed. But the stairs weren’t so long and we arrived on the first floor faster than expected. Here again there were no candles to lit the corridor. It was obvious that the inn didn’t have much clients in the recent weeks. I wonder if Alexej knew and had done it on purpose or if it was due to the dragons. The idea still seemed ridiculous.

Thursday Fiction 280: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Amy, wait!"

Amy didn't come for breakfast and I didn't think she would be up for class after coming home so late last night. She was ahead of me in the corridor and she was fast.

"What do you want?"

"I think we need to talk," I said hesitantly.

"I said everything I wanted last night, I don't want to talk about it anymore."

"I'm just not convince," I said.

She glared at me and just that look should have been enough to convince me but I was in a sort of denial.

"I don't think you could pull it of," I said.

"Excuse me?"

"I don't think you could have a double life, be nice to me all the time and study with me almost every day while continuously be with Tamara and preparing to cheat on your exam as if it was the most natural things to do. You were surrounded by me and Alex and we were always..."

"Are you for real?" she interrupted me. "There is nothing in common between my classes and yours. Yours is a joke, you might spend a lot more hours in classes than I do, fine, i grand you that but it's the easier degree in this university. Damn, it's the easier degree in the entire country. I bet anyone could pass those classes just by showing up in classes without bothering to do anything else. There is nothing hard in what you are learning."

I knew she was lying, but she was hitting on my proud because I had been studying like mad and she had already a way out but she was making it sound like she was the one who had it hard.

"It's statistical Freddy, your degree is the easiest you can get, go check it by yourself if you don't believe me."

And with that she walked away. I was left crushed. If she really meant that, if she really believed that, was it my fault if she had turned bad? If I had been a biology student showing her the example, then maybe none of that would have happen but at the same time, I couldn't possibly change who I was to please her.

Wednesday Snippet 281: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“Damn!” Kamaril muttered between his teeth walking on the other side of his glass box to look at the demon he would have to face. It was the demon who had sent him to his cell with Lonan, the one who had showed him his trident in the first place. He was standing in the middle of the row, leg spread for good balance as if he was thinking about fighting. In his hand, he was brandishing, Poseidon's trident in a glowing yellow bubble, this had been forbidding Kamaril to feel his trident in the first place. Seeing it in someone's else's hand he felt the anger boiling inside of him. An anger that didn't really belonged to him, the anger of Poseidon.

“I caught the other one,” a demon in robe said erupting in the row holding Lonan fighting against his restraining arms. He seemed to have a lot of problem carrying the little demon.

Lonan managed to bite his hand and get the restrain loose.

“You let him escape in the first place,” the one them called master raged.

“It wasn't me, I swear, I wasn't...” the demon started.

But the master clicked his fingers in his direction and the demon burst into green flames as if he was self combusting. Kamaril had never seen anything like that, he took a step back in horror trying to put some distance between him and the demon.

“I need someone else to play with,” Lonan said all smiling to the demon.

He didn't seem for the least afraid. Kamaril wondered if it was because he was a kid, because he was brave and had seen worse or because he was really foolish.

“Really?” the demon answered with a smile.

He seemed to like Lonan and Kamaril wondered how he could take that to his advantage.

“Yes, the one downstairs would never play with me and they got a little bad when I went out of the cage. This one is a bit boring, he only likes quiet but coming here was still fun, he even let me killed someone really really big,” Lonan said. “I'm not sure he wants to play to much, he is going on a treasure hunt but he doesn't want to tell me what the treasure is.”

He pouts and the demon laughed. Kamaril couldn't believe his eyes.

“I thought about your earlier proposal,” the demon said giving back his entire attention to Kamaril. “There actually is something that I need you to do. I can't send any of my men there right now but as you are a loner, it might still work,” he said.

“Can I go to?” Lonan asked jumping in front of him.

“No, I have very special plans for you and we are expecting company very soon,” the demon said.

“I'm only going out with the kid,” Kamaril said surprising himself.

The demon laughed.

Tuesday Travel 70: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last time

Brownie took a deep breathe, she knew where that was going it would be a it's this, it's that contest, they could argue forever as nobody had actual proof of what they were saying.
"You're such a moron you don't even deserve me to answer you," Samantha said.
"And I don't like you because you think you know everything when you don't," Sandy said defending her friend.
"You are equally moronic and I don't give two cents about what you think about me," Samantha said.
She then made a spectacle of choosing the largest piece of beef in her plate and ate it chewing noisily.
"You're gross," Marri said.
"Wow, girls don't get into a cat fight over food," Josh said.
He had a big smile on his face and his eyes said he wasn't laughing.
"They don't deserve the attention," Sandy said starting at Samantha and then at Brownie.
Brownie rose and eyebrow. She had made enemy without even realising how it started. She was going to need her barrier up to push the negative energy away before it ate her alive. Any negative force around her had a tendency to pushed on her nightmare and make them worse. But before she had time to do it, a wave passed through her and she felt more grounded. She looked around to see where it was coming from but she couldn't detect the energy coming from anyone in the room. Whoever was trying to calm the tension around their table could hide their magic really well. For some reason, her aquamarine stone started to spin. She looked at Josh, who was eating his stew like nothing was happening. The first time the aquamarine had spun, it was around him. Could it be possible that he had something to do with the magic?
Brownie looked at him a bit more and tried to sense if any magic, even the faintest was coming from him but she couldn't sense anything at all.
