Jezabel held his hand tight and started to cry even more. She looked like a fragile baby and Kelpie started to rock her. He had just discovered that he needed someone and it was really scary even though she wasn't going anywhere soon.
She finally felt asleep. It seemed that she hadn't slept in a long time and somehow, she looked like an angel. The thought put a smile on Kelpie's face, she was one. He wondered what his grand father would have done. Kelpie had followed his plan after all. Maybe his grand-father couldn't have imagined that the next queen to be would prefer to follow the rules and marry Kordelius instead of him. He had tried everything to convinced her. He had painted the most hideous image of Kordelius he could imagine, making him look like the worse possible match for her. And then there had been the demon. That was something Kelpie hadn't think of, it had taken Kallisto away from him at the wrong moment. If it hadn't been for that guy...
Kelpie closed his eyes, took a deep breath and looked at the high ceiling. It was too late now anyway and their fate was probably worse than his even if he had lost all reason to fight. As if she had heard his thoughts, Jezabel moaned in her sleep. She was in pain, there was no doubt about it but her face seemed to be slowly getting back to normal. She was so cheerful when curing him and hurting herself he wondered how it was even possible. He hated it. When he was supposed to convinced Kallisto to marry him, he did his best but he still hated it. When he lied to everyone in the village trying to create free will in this world, he hated it. And now that he had failed, he still hated it. She had been pretending as well, for he didn't know how long but somehow she had seemed genuinely happy when telling him about God and her duty as an angel. That's what she had been trying to protect.
