JanNoWriMo challenge : "Attic Mirror" part 6

I had a kind of a writer block but I think I'm over it now.
I went to Dublin on Tuesday and wrote a lot in the bus. Today I wrote 3000 words and I still have a lot of ideas. I'm still a bit worried of the ending of the story but I guess I just have to let it comes by itself no. Just write one more part at a time until the end and that will do.
I think that not thinking about finishing is helping me a lot.

Stats 8961 words more so that's a total of 44023 words.
Less than 6000 words more to write before the end of JanNoFiMo. One of my friends is wondering how come I didn't finish yet. I'm not going to disappoint her. I'll sure have my 50000 words by the end of the month.

Physics : An other article published

En français
One other article has been published in "Journal Physics B : At. Mol. Opt. Phys". The title is : "Influence of autoionizing states on the pulse-length dependence of strong-field Ne+ photoionisation at 38.4 eV".

In this one the novelty is that we used the time-dependent R-matrix approach to investigate ionization of ground-state Ne+ for several laser field intensities. We discovered that the ionization probability oscillates with pulse length, which is due to population and depopulation of autoionizing states just above the Ne2 + ground state, reached after absorption of a single photon. That's something new that hadn't been studied before.

The paper can be found here.

JanNoWriMo challenge : "Attic Mirror" part 5

I went through a kind of writer block and didn't reach my word count every day.
I'm getting better. I went to spend one afternoon in a café writing by hand and came back with a lot of ideas. I found some of my characters really inspiring, especially Gideon. He wasn't supposed to be in Demon Soul at the start but he was very helpful there and I wanted to have him in Attic Mirror as well without really knowing how. But now I realize that he is one of my favorite character and I love having hum around even if that's only for a minor role.

Stats : 6005 words more for a total of 35062 words.

Christmas Amigurumi : Xiao Meng's Amineko

En français
And one more Amineko to the list. I made this one for my friend Xiao Meng. She really liked it and said that she will always keep it with her to give her strength as I'm always so strong and energetic. That's funny I think. On the second picture you can see it with Bleuet and Rosie.

Cooking : The sushi workshop

En français
It has been like forever since the last time I wrote a cooking post.
Well that one is a bit different from the others as it's not about recipe or a diet as usual but about a class.
Yesterday evening we went to my favorite Japanese restaurant in Belfast "The ginger tree" to have a sushi workshop. That was Sebastien's Christmas present. Two hours of making sushi with chef Taro explaining us everything and showing us how to roll the sushi and add the ingredient, followed buy a dinner at the end of which we could ask questions.
We also learn a bit more about Japanese sushi due to chef Taro's little quiz. Seriously if you are in Belfast don't hesitate to go for a workshop it seriously worth it.

At the end of the evening we went back home with our box of sushi each and the sushi mate we had been using. Don't they look so delicious ?

JanNoWriMo challenge : "Attic Mirror" part 4

This is the fourth part of Attic Mirror. The writing is going fine, though maybe a bit slower than I would want. Still nothing to frighten the accomplishment of the challenge. I find myself unable to write at sometimes when I wanted to and at some other I'm so inspired that I can write 4000 or 5000 words in a row, sometimes more. I tend to use write or die a lot as a time boxing tool. It really help me to concentrate on a particular part of the story.
I also discovered that I'm putting references to Demon Soul in the story which is normal as some of the characters belong to both novel. I would advice you to start with reading Demon Soul first if you haven't done it yet. Even if it's not necessary to the good comprehension of the novel it could give you more details about some of the characters back ground.

Stats : 8800 words written which gives 29057 words in total.

Iceland : Glymur, Reykjavík, the end.

En français
In the morning we take a shower smelling egg because the water is coming from the source Deildartunguhver we have visited yesterday, and it's full of Sulfur.
We take the road of the fjord Hvalfjörður to go to the waterfall Glymur that we reached after a bit of hiking.
This hiking is pretty cool, we go to a small cave, cross a river on a wooden bridge, e walk and climb along the canyon to arrive at the top of the waterfall. It is the tallest waterfall in the country, 196m high and born from the river Botnsá.
At the top there are a lots of birds nests.
We then finish our tour of Iceland in Reykjavík that we visited a bit before going back to the airport.

JanNoWriMo challenge : "Attic Mirror" part 3

Here is the part 3 of Attic Mirror. As you can see you have here the worth of several days of work. Since the last part I had few days when I had difficulty to reach my general word goal of 2500 words but I'm catching up a bit as the novel gets a bit better planed.
I'm still happy with my word count so far and also with the new character I introduced that wasn't planed at all.
I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I'm enjoying writing it.

Stats : 9452 words more since last time for a total of 20257 words.

Iceland : Snaefellsjökull, Grábrók, Hraunfossar

En français
The road to Snaefellsjökull is quite difficult, it's full of rocks and we are a bit scared for our poor little car. Hopefully we manage to go through the glacier without too many problems.
On the opposite side we visited a little cave called Sönghellir.
We then drive to Grábrók where we can see some old volcanoes.
We then decide to go visit Reykholt but we get a bit confuse.
We finally arrive at Hraunfossar which is a place with several waterfall coming from the river Hvíta and from the ground. A lava-tube cave Víðgelmir is close by.
In Icelandic, Hraunfossar means the Lava Falls. We also visited the lave field called Hallmundarhraun.

One of the waterfall is "Barnafoss", Children's Falls and here is the story related to it :

Once there lived a widow on the farm Hraunás. She was well off and among her possessions was the farm Norðurreykir in Hálsasveit. She had two children. They were quite young when this story took place. There came a time when evening services were to be held at Christmas at Gilsbakki. The Mistress of Hraunsás and all her folk, except the children, attended the service. The children were told to stay at home and play. The moon was shining and the weather was fine. When the people came home the children had disappeared. Their footsteps led to the stone arch over the river. Their mother had the arch destroyed, saying that no man would ever be allowed to cross the falls alive. She later donated to the Church at Reykholt the farm Norðurreykir, in memory of her children. (Kristleifur Þorsteinsson II (1972) Hvítá.276)

We finally go to Akranes for the night.

Iceland : Dynjandi, North-West

En français
We went back to Flateyri in the morning and continued our way in the fjords until the fjord Dýrafjörður.
We took a small path to go and see Kaldbakur from where we have a magnificent view of the fjords. Sebastien said that we didn't see Greenland there but I'm pretty sure we did at some point.
We then went to the waterfall Dynjandi. While driving around the fjord Arnarfjörður we can already see them. In fact there is seven of them, Bæjarfoss, Hundafoss, Hrísvaðsfoss, Göngumannafoss, Strompgljúfrafoss, Hæstahjallafoss and my favorite of course Dynjandi.

We then take the road back to Stykkishólmur where we find a camping for the night.

JanNoWriMo challenge : "Attic Mirror" part 2

Here is the next part of Attic Mirror. For those of you who were wondering why I didn't uploaded sooner and in three parts as there is worth of three days of work in it, that's just because I wanted to add more thing in the other sections of the blog and that will continue like that except if someone tell me that they want to read the rest of the story as soon as possible in which case I would be very glad to help as I'm a bit carving for comments right now.

So let's go back to what is interesting us here : Attic Mirror. I really like that novel especially because it's really different of Demon Soul even if there are some common characters. I have completely different feeling while writing it, that's a great new experience.
When I was writing it, as I'm always participating to those writing challenges with friends, one of they told me about a really cool website called write or die. I'm using it in the kamikaze mode so it starts to eat my words if I stop typing for too long. I find it very helpful to help concentrate.
Since I started Demon Soul my average of word for 30mins was about 500. Using this new tool I discover that now it's more 800, sometimes close to 900 words. I hope I'll keep on improving.

Stats 8228 words written in three days so a total of 8228 words

Christmas Amigurumi 2009 : Bunny

En français
This year I've been making Amigurumi as Christmas present for some of my friends again.
I made this lovely rabbit for my friend's daughter. Apparently she had asked Santa for a rabbit, which I didn't know though. So that is all good.
