Mystery Monday 160: Murder at the Conference 57

Hello and welcome to a new Mystery Monday.

I hope you had a great week-end. Here is a new little part of Murder at the Conference. Murder at the Conference is a stand alone sequel to Harajuku Kiss.

We start right were we left off last time:

“I was in charge of carrying the posters too, for three persons, my supervisor, another PhD student and myself. And I forgot the poster carrier at the security check. We were waiting for the time to board the plane and I freaked because I couldn't find the poster carrier. I had to go back to the security check and explain to them that it was just posters and that I hadn't forgotten the tube on purpose and that it was really mine. They were really suspicious so I told them I could show them my name on my poster and my passport to see that they match and I did exactly just that. I mean the tube had already been through their machine so they knew it wasn't dangerous and there is also no point what so ever about stealing a poster tube.”

“Unless you really hate a researcher and want to steal his work and make sure he can't show it off at the conference.”

“No, that's silly, we really all work together, I mean we read each other papers and cite each other and email each other to as questions and verify each other results. There is not that much of competition in academia unless you are at Nobel Prize level or want some computer time or special grant or special experiment material time.”

WeWriWar 387: Sun Kiss 10

Hello everybody!

Welcome to a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

You can find the snippet from the other participants in the blog hops in the Snippet Sunday facebook group and on the  Weekend Writing Warrior's blog.

This week, we are back right where we left off last week:

She took a deep breath to calm herself down, that was probably an owl. That could only be an owl anyway. A big owl, that she was going to see and that everyone was going to enjoy bringing up back to health before letting it fly again. Or maybe her wizard brother was going to adopt it and make it deliver secret messages to his girlfriend. Everything was possible in this house. She walked to the window to see if the bird was still there, there was a trace of blood, in the shape of a hand in the middle of the glass. She could see that the hand had slid down on the window, likely trying to get a grip on something while falling but of course there was nothing to grab on. She opened the window slowly, not really reassured... some of the vampires of the house were able to fly to the second floor without too much problem.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 375

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

Either the Jägers were expecting another delivery, or they were extremely confident about their skills. Nobody in their right mind would leave their door open at night with dragons and wolves roaming outside. I walked consciously all my senses in alert. The atmosphere was slightly abnormal and asking for extra caution. If someone had told me that I could enter a church through the wide open back door I wouldn't have believe them and I would have been right.

I walked through the door but it was as if I had hit a wall. It was opened, I could see through it. I could touch the entrance and people inside would probably have been able to see me through but I couldn't pass. I started to breath heavily. I had no idea what was happening. I knew that vampires couldn't enter without being invited but that was the first time I actually experienced it by myself. So far wherever I had been willing to enter there had always been a way for me to be invited and a church was a public place, everyone could enter, I had entered churches before. I couldn't figure out what was so different with this one. Why was it resisting me? And especially why couldn't I go through air? I had studied materials with Nicolas. If there was nothing to be seen, he would call it air. He said that's how we felt the wind, when the air moved. I could feel the air on the door. I should have been able to go through easily, solid could go through air, no matter what. There was a part of this place I could go though, the material part of me should have been able to go through but I realised that I was stopped by the immaterial part of me. Something reacted to my vampire form.

Thursday Fiction 364: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“Because I won't let your mother come, of course,” a voice said behind her.

Isabelle turned around to face her mother, or more exactly Clara's mother but she was looking exactly the same as her mother and Isabelle took a few steps back.

“It's alright, our mothers are quite different inside,” Clara said in her head.

Isabelle was starting to get confused but there was one thing she was sure of, it was impossible for one of her other self to resist being taken over, and if her mother wanted in, she would.

“Not all of us are the same,” Clara said encouragingly.

“The universe of Oris is at the same time as close and as far from your universe as it can be. Most people are exactly the same but the law of physics took a different turn,” Romulus said. “Let me demonstrate.”
