Mystery Monday 102: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.

Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here

He placed a hand on his chest waiting and tried to breath deeply to calm his racing heart. He wished he could have stayed home but no matter how scary his work environment was becoming, he was even more frightened about the van. At least upstairs, in his office, with his back to the wall he would be sure to see things coming. He shook his head in denial and tried to push the paranoia away. The elevator was already there, the light inside was so bright compared to the darkness that it hurt his eyes. He entered with relief, turned around to face the darkness and pressed the button.

He was going down to the eighth floor.

WeWriWar 351: The House at The Crossing 59

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

How are you doing?

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first comes into the House. It's supposed to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last time, let's meet Wendy.

“Wendy comes from the Realms of Acorn.” Teresa says. “Just like the human realm, there are many universes in the Acorn. It's like another world.”
“So you can just change world which staying in the same universe and each of those worls has copies in other universes,” my other self say.
“Precisely,” Aunt Teresa says and she claps her hands together with a huge smile like a little girl.
From her baby chair, Malicia is looking at her. I'm not sure when those chairs appeared but there are three, attached to one side of the table and they are just the right one for the babies, so they can half lie down and have their head supported.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 316

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“I’m not really from here,” she continue. “one when I was little, I saw a dragon and he ate everybody except my mum and me because we were hiding. I’m scared of you too, humans don’t like wolf, next time you see a humans you need to run really far really fast so that they never catch you because they would kill you, just for being who you are. That’s why me and my mum run. My father wasn’t really rich but he was working for very wealthy people, so we never lack of everything. They had a daughter, about my age. We were often playing together. She had blue eyes and blond hair just like me and we looked really alike. From time to time I would hear my dad saying that my face was a blessing because it gave us a life and every time my mother would hug me. The rich people’s daughter had a preceptor and I needed to sit at the back of the room and take notes of the lessons too. I learned to read and count and language which my parents didn’t know. My father didn’t like the knowledge much but my mum forced me to teach them she said that it would make it easier on my to learn that way so my parents learned to. I think I was better than her but it didn’t matter too much, there was never anyone to really notice. I think all that time, my father never really know what he had got us into with my precious face until the war started. They were taking rich people’s wealth and killing them. The family my parents worked for sent they daughter to the country side, I was given her name and precise instruction about how to talk and how to behave. It was to save her from being killed. The rebels entered our city and they take the property over. My mother ran to the house looking for me everywhere like any mother would have done even though she had been advised not to. They killed everyone even the maid and coach who were only working here, they said they contributed to the downfall of the country, that they were traitors and that they needed to pay. But my mother and I escaped for the foreign land. It was easy because I spoke so well. We settled in Bohemia waiting for my father, he was sending us letters and money. After a while the letters stopped.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Samantha was found just a bit later. She was sitting on a rock at the exit of the temple's ground.

"Damn you're slow," she said as Josh and Brownie approached.

"You could have gone ahead," Josh said.

"I didn't feel good about leaving the two of you alone," Samantha said.

"Why?" Brownie asked.

"Because he is always talking nonsense about this place and I feel like you might believe him," Samantha said.

"Probably not," Brownie answered.

She started walking ahead. Samantha stood up and followed her.

"I'm not talking nonsense, because I don't have a book saying everything about his place, I have to look at things and get my own conclusion. It's not bad, it's just how it works."

"Except it doesn't," Samantha said.

Josh sighed. It didn't seem like him to give up on an argument, but he dug into his bag and pulled up a choco-croissant. He might be as hungry as he said he was.

Brownie was starting to feel a bit light headed too.

"Can I have one?" She asked.

"Sure." Josh dived in his bag once again and came back up with an almond croissant this time all filled to the rim by marzipan.

"Oh wow, I love those," Brownie said. "I hadn't notice you had some."

 Josh shrugged.

"What I really want right now, is a big plate of tomato salad," Josh said.

The girl both looked at him as if he was sick.

"What? I can't eat fire stew in the middle of the day with this heat, thinking about anything even food even slightly hot make me want to gab and vomit my tepid mint tea. That stuff is terrible when it's not freezing cold."
