Thursday Fiction 219: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

I had never told Amy about my black out being more than just fainting. That they were more like escaping this reality to go to a new one for a short time. To be fair I almost told her many time over but seeing the reaction she had today about a simple book, just because it was theoretical, I was glad again that I didn't. It was as if there was always something preventing me from telling her. Like something she would say that would make me keep my secret a bit longer. I hadn't told Alex either but a part of me felt like he knew or at least he suspected something but he wouldn't say. He would just help me with part I had trouble with and accompany me to extra neurobiology classes just in case I were to faint during them.

"There is a lot of good things that just started as a theory. The earth was considered flat until someone theorized that it was a sphere. There were a lot of time where theory preceded experiment. It is true that today people look at experiments and try to figure out something to explain them. But I think that's wrong and I'm happy not to be the only one. I think the human mind can ask questions that no machine or experiment can answer yet and that means that if we just wait to be able to experiment on things or see them with our own eyes to progress we are going to go nowhere. And telling that basing a career on theory is a joke coming from someone who hope to be looking for space dinosaurs is really pure irony," Alex said before I could ever explain myself.

Wednesday Snippet 221: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“I don't get the difference,” Seti continued looking at him doubtfully.

“Your Soul traverses times and ages with your living memory to create who you are,” Azazel said. “Your body is just matter which had always existed and has been transformed through ages, what you see is different for every cells, because each of them have been through different shape and bodies but they all come from the same place. They can have been millions, billions of different things before, your soul as always only been just you. You should be the one understanding it the best, that's the first and last thing you see when you disintegrate people.”

“Oh that,” Seti said.

“Oh that,” Azazel repeated.

“Sorry to let you down guys, this conversation is fun and all but I have to get back home before it's too dark or Brownie is going to worry,” Sahel said.

“We're coming with you,” Seti said.

Tuesday Travel 10: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to the first Tuesday Travel post. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

She turned out the water, this shower wasn't as relaxing as she had hoped it would be. Despite all that had happened with Kallisto and the strange dream of the previous night, she was just back where she had been weeks ago, with the thoughts turning in her head, controlling her instead of her controlling them. It had to stop, even if that meant going away from Sahel.

Her clothes were cold on her skin as she passed them on but they provided no new strange sensation. She felt pretty good about that, maybe it had all been just her imagination or not having water or food for three days. She didn't remember ever sleeping that long. She would have to find new way to control her magic for it not to happen again. She hadn't even heard Sahel entering her room, she didn't know how she ended up in her pajama. That was pretty dangerous, being knocked out for so long, anything could have happened if some weird demon had decided to come over. She could see Sahel's point, she understand why he was worried but it was either that or Kallisto and her stupid boyfriend would both be dead. She wasn't ready to lose a sister just now, or anyone she knew. Not after Kion had died. She hadn't known him much but nobody deserved to die that way, that young, so... She gathered up her courage and opened the door, time for breakfast.

There was nobody in the kitchen and the clock marked half past one in the afternoon, way to go about breakfast.

Sahel was sitting at the table in from of a glass of ginger ale. Brownie didn't say anything as she moved to the closet and grabbed some bread to toast.

“I didn't know what you would like to eat, it's pretty late already, we even finished lunch,” he said.

“I can see that,” Brownie said. You could have asked, she wanted to add but decided not to throw oil on the fire.

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.

Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

Beating down someone unable to defend himself was so easy that the anger wasn’t released in anyway but built up, so they needed to repeat themselves, to blame you for their mistakes, to say you were the one who didn’t understand. There was nothing to understand. The man stood in front of him, pathetic, trying to add more pain to Kaji's body as if it hadn't reached its limit, as if his problems would resolve themselves with each blow. At least, Kaji didn't feel pathetic.

“Stop already!”

The first man grabbed the other by the arm.
