Wednesday Snippet 435: Fairy World 76

 

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week. 

"We do it and then we'll see to get you home," Brownie said as if she was reading Samira's mind.

"Nothing can get me home," Samira said.

"There are a lot of things magic can do," Brownie answered.

"What should I do?" Samira asked softening a little. If she could do that, maybe she could find a way for her and Taram, maybe.

"We'll sit in the center of the circle, near the couch with Kallisto. Then you'll have to hold my hand no matter what you see," Brownie said.

"Will it be weird or scary? I'm afraid of salamander," Samira said.

"I'm not sure but I would think it would be salamander free," Brownie said with a smile.

"Who is afraid for poor little lizard?" Evalynn said.

"Not lizard, only salamander, and just the black and yellow ones," Samira answered bumping her chest as if she wanted to show that there was nothing wrong with that. "Now get out of my circle."

"Nope, I can't let you do that," Evalynn said. "You'll just endanger everyone."

Tuesday Travel 231: Witch Raising: The Book of Earth 78

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. This week we are following Brownie on her journey as she is going toward the second element: Earth. 

About Witch Raising.

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt starts right where we left off last week.

 

“Because I'm super sleepy,” Daphy answered with another yawn.

“You've got to teach me that trick,” Brownie said.

“I don't think so.”

Daphy pressed on the button to open the door and pushed the man's leg in the narrow passage in between compartment. Brownie tried the lever to open the door leading outside but the door didn't bulge.

“Damn, they shut the door,” she said.

“Well, yeah Cake, we are not allowed to get out of the train in the middle of a trip, duh,” Daphy said.

Brownie was annoyed but Daphy was right. Damn, just the fact she had to admit that to herself annoyed her even more. She didn't know what to do.

“Then let's get the other guy here first and we'll take care of the door later, somehow,” she said.

Daphy moved to her side and placed her hand on the handle. She door clicked and opened.

Mystery Monday 228: Murder at the Conference 125

Hello mystery lovers and welcome to a new Mystery Monday.
I hope you had a great week-end. Here is a new little part of Murder at the Conference. Murder at the Conference is a stand alone sequel to Harajuku Kiss.  

We start right were we left off last week:

 

Now experiments had advanced so rapidly with new technologies that they kept on finding things and theoreticians were so far behind that experimenters tried to compare their results with overly simplified models. If the model worked well enough, they denied the need for further theoretical investigation. Therefore, theoreticians were grabbing all the experimental papers they could find and research only what the experimenters had found. I was an ab initio theoretician, that kind of attitude pissed me off. There was no way to understand anything by tuning your results to what was experimentally discovered, not with all the uncertainties in the experimental measurements.

“Maybe a bit of fighting would release some of the tension,” I said.

“You're right girl. You're right! I have a few things that needs doing but none of it is considered a priority. At my age, people don't take me seriously anymore, especially as a woman,” Anna said.

This lady could give a run for their money to any experimenters I had ever seen in action any days. She was supposed to be a role model for the rest of us girls in a man world.

“You'll show them,” I said.

“Oh now, you'll show them! That's going to be your and your friends' burden now. I only have a few years left to go.”

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 442

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? 

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.

Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

 

 

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

 

It wasn't his place he was hiding just like we were. Irina turned to me.

"Let's talk about it," I said taking few steps forward.

"Get out!" the man yelled.

A woman came beside him, that was my chance.

"I have a little girl here and an injured man, we can't sleep outside," I said. "Let us in for the night and we'll leave in the morning."

The woman clung at the man's shoulder and whispered in his ear something so low that even I couldn't hear it.

"We'll take the girl but the two of you get out," the man said.

"I'm not staying alone with strangers," Irina said.

I took a step closer to the man, the pitchfork was on my chest.
