Mystery Monday 174: Murder at the Conference 71

Hello and welcome to a new Mystery Monday.

I hope you had a great week-end. Here is a new little part of Murder at the Conference. Murder at the Conference is a stand alone sequel to Harajuku Kiss.

We start right were we left off last week:

My chest was painful. It was really bad. It was like my first panic attack. At that time I didn't know what panic attack were. I was alone and I totally freaked. I thought I was going to die. Today too it was crossing my mind. I could see myself falling dead in here before ever reaching out the bathroom door.

First things to deal with a panic attack, make yourself comfortable and don't resist. It will stop eventually. Whatever you do just believe you are safe. But it was hard knowing that if I went back to the office too soon, I might restart it straight away or that our conversation might restart it.

I took deep breathes and kept my eyes shut so that the world would stop to try and suffocate me. It didn't work, even in the dark the claustrophobic effect was still there, coming through my eyelids. So I waited. I waited for it too pass trying not to think about it coming back.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 389

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

It wasn't true. I liked cold blood the best and I hated to drink from feverish people but that boys blood had been a completely difference experience and I wanted more of it. I needed to know what they had given him and I would give some to my next meal... but in a safer location.

"Tell me if I'm wrong, but I heard of a lonesome vampire traveling Europe," the Jäger said. "Would that be you? It had been a long time since one of your kind was recorded having solitary activity."

"I didn't know we were recorded, but you are mistaken," I said.

"Your location, your activity, your number, the people you bite, who you mate with, the clothes you wear, your habits, everything has been recorded for century, until now... " he said letting the sentence hang wanting me to bite it and I bite it.

"Until now..." I said.

"We are not recording anymore," he said. "We are using our knowledge to finally get rid of you all."

I smiled. They wanted us. Most vampires didn't know they even existed but I wanted them.

"We are so similar, hunter running after our preys," I said smiling all fangs out as if I was about to jump at his throat which I have to admit I would have if I hadn't been locked out of reach.

"We are nothing alike," he said.

Thursday Fiction 378: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Her mind was a mess. It had always been a mess forbidding her to sleep at night but, it was worse than that now, she had no control over her thoughts, no idea how to get out of her life. She didn't want to be herself anymore. She wanted to be someone else. She sat up just long enough to lock the door to the bathroom and closed her eyes. She didn't call for a particular universe this time, she called for one where she wouldn't be so useless, where she wouldn't be so scared of everything and everyone, she called for a universe where she would be strong. She didn't look at the bubbles in front of her. She kept on calling for something to happen, anything to make her feel better.

She opened her eyes again when she felt the grass caressing her cheek. The grass was blue and the sky was orange and something was clearly not right in this universe. Every color was wrong. And Isabelle began to laugh. It was the best thing she had ever seen in her life. Everything was wrong, everything felt so out of place that she felt as if she belonged for the first time. She sat up and looked around. She was alone with the wind and the flowers and the grass, at the top of a hill. Her skin was light purple and she was wearing a light white dress.

Wednesday Snippet 380: Fairy World 21

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week

The door opened in silence. Yue was expecting it to cringe or to be unmovable but it moved slowly and steadily without a noise. On the other side, there was no smoke. The walls were covered with shelves with dusty books and pot and ingredients and in the center there was a large desk with more piles of books and a boiling concoction. A fairy dressed all in white was steering the mixture, her sight sent a shiver down Yue's spine.

"I had been waiting for you, Seth," she said with a caressing voice that had nothing reassuring to it.

"You are mistaken, my...." Yue paused a second not really knowing how to address her, "Lady... I am not Seth, I am Yue."

She looked up letting go of her spoon for a second and slide to him more than she walked. Does she have feet? The question crossed Yue's mind but he soon forget about it to concentrate on her face. It was as white as her dress, her lips were white, here hair and eyebrows and eye lashed were white and even more surprising, her eyes were entirely made from different shade of white, they were captivating and Yue smiled at her. He liked her, she was crazy, in a way he often felt crazy too on waking up being someone he didn't know.
