Wednesday Snippet 301: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

This week Isakael is back home and he is not happy.

“Three days! I leave you alone for three freaking days and that’s what happens, a freaking unstable portal leaking nasty things from the Demon World in the goddamn living-room!” Isakael said.

He was walking in circles in front of them in the living room, between the couch where most of them were sitting and the wall. There was a dark green circle in the middle of the flowery wall paper and that’s what his main problem was. He was keeping an eye on it constantly. That’s what was making him mad, that green thing. It started to turn lighter and lighter. He stopped in front of it. He had thought about taking a rest after his adventure in the Angel World while concentrating on finding Jezabel but he should have known that in this house taking a rest wasn't possible.

“Welcome home,” Brownie said. “Did you have a nice trip?”

She was only trying to change the conversation to something more lively after all, they had really been trying to close the portal.

The portal color turned lighter and lighter, becoming almost white.

“This one is mine,” Dylan said with a smile.

Isakael looked at him quickly but long enough to show that he wasn’t going to tolerate any jokes. The wall turned totally green and a little purple creatures with huge ears, something like a mix between elephant and rabbit ears came out. Dylan didn’t have time to move, Isakael seized it by the ears with one hand and threw it back where it came from before the wall turned dark green again.

“Come on, this one was so cute,” Daciana said as if she could have eaten it.

Isakael threw her a bad look. She huddled into Dylan’s arms.

“It’s not like they had much choice,” Brownie answered. She was sitting on the edge of the couch with Sahel, she looked exhausted.

“It’s not like they had much choice,” Isakael repeated walking away. “Are you kidding me? With all the wall there is in this World they had to choose this living-room!”

Tuesday Travel 91: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

There were seats placed in a semi circle with the back to the door, and facing a statue of a girl and two huge fire lions but except for the distinguishable flame shape on the lion, there were nothing like the colorful figures they had encountered everywhere on the way. Those lions were totally white except for the piercing black eyes. People were queuing to touch the feet of the girl which had been polished so much over the years, by so many hands that they had flattened. The lion seemed to be hovering on top of the crowd ready to pounce on anyone misbehaving. The previous lions had seemed like good fun to Brownie, nice, colorful and funny looking creatures, those were rather frightening. It reminded her the real purpose of the fire lions, to protect the girl who was supposed to be offered as a sacrifice for the demons even if that meant that they had to destroy the entire city in the process. Somehow it sounded crazy but there was no way to understand what the beasts wanted, what was their relationship with the girl or what were their reasons for protecting her and only her.

It was Brownie's turn to touch the feet on the girl and both her aquamarine and the crystal piece she had found were pulsating against her chest and in her pocket against her leg. It was a strange feeling, as if they were trying to tell her there was a danger, somewhere around. Brownie touched the feet and looked up at the lions, there were purple shadows dancing in their eyes, something very familiar. She looked around to see what could have had this effect on the black marble but there was nothing remotely purple around.

Mystery Monday 94: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

I didn’t want to cook but I didn’t have much choice. I was totally against prepared food. The main reason for it was that I had been cooking a lot of other people who didn’t really deserve the effort. I knew they didn't all along to but I couldn’t resolve to cook for myself alone. It seemed that cooking for yourself is a huge burden for a lot of people. As if we are all thinking that we don’t deserve the effort to be cooked for. So I had decided that I deserved to eat nice homemade meals every day, and from there came the aversion for the prepared food.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 308

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

I couldn’t believe the girl, she was in a wood with a wolf she had befriended or better who had befriended her and she wasn’t going to follow me. In her shoes I would have bet my life that the next animal I would encounter wasn’t going to be this friendly. Or did she believe that she was invincible?

After all, she had survived a dragon, a vampire and a wolf, without talking about her crazy step father and the rebels in the grand duchy of Muscovy. A lot of people would have start thinking they couldn’t die with less than that. I was starting to think like myself again and I was feeling the wind getting colder on my skin. I came back to her, turned around her and pushed her from behind in the right direction. She took few steps and stopped to look around again. I pushed more, she was becoming really annoying. My back was the first thing to change, it straightened up suddenly as I passed in front of her to lead. I took few steps and my feet were feet again.

The sensation of the ground’s mud and rocks didn’t feel so good on my feet and I wonder how Irina was feeling about it. I turned around to look at her feeling my hands and mussel change again, the hair growing back inside of me were tickling. She was looking at me with a blank expressionless face as if I had just taken away her last bit of sanity.
“I knew it,” she said with a voice so strong, that I wonder where it could be coming from in her frail body, before fainting.
