Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 307

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

The last sentence made me laugh, I could imagine Irina really clearly on the driver sit trying to get the horses to behave while they would stop to eat every tuff of grass on the border of the road. Laughing as a wolf wasn’t really easy and it seemed to Irina that I was strangling myself because she took my head in her hand and stroked my side vigorously. I stood up and took few steps in circle concentrating on laughing. When I felt like laughing I felt like I was becoming human again, but we couldn’t stay here for too long, it was getting darker and darker and colder and we were both wet. I realised that as a wolf being wet didn’t bother me so much as it did as a human. I pushed my nose at Irina and barked at her to make her stand up.
“You want to tell me something?” she asked standing up and stroking her dress as if it was going to make any difference. She then hugged herself with both hands and looked around.
“It’s cold here and I don’t even know where I am.”
I barked at her again. Sometimes I was impressed with her knowledge and found her smart but right now I found her very stupid. I started to walk away.
“Please don’t go,” she said.
She wasn’t going to follow me just yet.

Thursday Fiction 296: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

It was all above my head but one thing wasn't. I blinked three times and open my eyes fully in front of a different book. One filled with equations that made no sense to me. Very long equations cast over the two pages. It took me a moment to realised that I was back on the spaceship and that I was in Michelle's cabin reading the updated version of a book about parallel universe, the knowledge my universe wouldn't have for another few centuries, if ever.

Have you ever felt like you were born at the wrong time? Well, I feel that way all the time, I feel like I'm born in the wrong time, at the wrong place, in the wrong damn universe.

And what I was holding in my hand totally confirmed it. Theory, equations, space travel. It didn't look like these people had found how to slip from a universe to the next either but at least they had advance knowledge about the reality of them all.

"I'm not meant to be here either," a voice said in my head.

It was really weak and I almost didn't notice it.

"Michelle?" I felt like I was yelling.

"Yes, my father told me the stories, about the other world about how I would visit them when I grow up but he was wrong, I am not the one who can do it, it's you not me. I can't understand why, and it's killing me. I want to go, I want to see it all, that's why I became captain, because I though maybe if I could master traveling in this universe, maybe I would be able to go too. I thought that until I met you, it can be only one of us."

"I'm sorry," I said.

"It's not your fault I guess, I just... If I could understand how you do it. Can you teach me?"

Wednesday Snippet 299: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

This week we are with Kelpie and Jezabel.

He wondered why he was talking so much, why he felt the need to make sure that the angel was ok. The Tweegs made the angel slide off Kelpie's side, she was still clinging strongly to his mane as he turned back to his human form and opened her fist stuck in his hair and pulling on them. In front of the Tweegs, he didn't mind being naked, they didn't wear clothes either. He pushed the door of the house open. There was a wooden table in front of him and a bed with white bed sheets on the right. He made a sign to the Tweeg to carry the angel to the bed and went to grab some new clothes in the closet.

The angel moved in the fetus position as soon as the Tweeg left her on the bed. Kelpie looked at her over his shoulder passing a shirt on on his wet skin.

“Take a towel,” he remembered Kallisto said.

Never was he going to take a towel, of course he felt that it might have been a nice sensation but he wanted to differentiate himself as much as possible from the human. Not a vulgar horse, not a human. He wondered what he considered himself to be after all, trying so hard not to be what everyone around expected him to be.

The Tweeg came closer to him and passed his hand on his forearm.

“I know there is a new queen,” Kelpie said sadly.

Even if he never really love Kallisto even when asking her to marry him and pursuing her, the topics still made him sad. Sad for himself and his own failure and sad because she still none the less, despite refusing him, married someone she didn't love and didn't even know.

“Can we talk about it later? I need to attend to this one.”

He pointed at the angel. The Tweeg left the house with his comical steps, the other jumped around him touching him. They were sharing knowledge and it made Kelpie smile, they seemed happy at least and it was contagious. They danced in the rain again, as if forgetting all about him and the angel.

He took a towel and two blankets in the closet as well as a long white shirt before waking to the bed. Putting the blanket and the shirt on the side he wondered if it wouldn't be better to wake her up and to let her take care of herself.

He shook her gently by the shoulder.

Tuesday Travel 89: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The temple at the top of the mountain was nothing like the temple in the middle of the city. It was the most beautiful thing Brownie had every seen. It was also made of yellow sand stone but it have been whitened with lime. There was a large gate all white at the top of the stairs and it had probably be cleaned especially for the festival because it was shining in the sunlight to the point it was hard on the eyes to look at it. Josh peered bellow his glasses lifting them up before putting them back down on his nose. Brownie was impressed. She hadn't thought it could be like that. There was no pictures in Samantha's book so she had assumed it would be like the ones at the bottom, probably smaller but in fact it was even larger. After the gate, the stairs also turned to white, they were smooth and rather slippery. On the side of the stairs the small bushes were replaced by white growing crystal that didn't seem natural in this environment.

"Nobody knows where the crystal come from," Samantha said. "Apparently if you break a piece, it will grow back in less than an hour."

"I guess that depends on the size," Josh said.

"Well a large piece is probably hard to break anyway," Samantha said. She approached to the crystal and Brownie followed her. The aquamarine pulsing on her chest as if it recognised something.

Samantha broke a little piece not even as big at her little finger's nail. The crystal started to grow back in the exact same shape. Brownie stroke her eyes, there was something magical about this crystal for sure but she had no idea what it was.

"If you want a little piece, it's better to get one from the floor," Josh said a larger piece of crystal in hand. "It's not as alive as the one you directly break but it's what the crystal wants to give you."

"The crystal is a thing," Samantha said. "It doesn't want to give you anything."
