Tuesday Travel 89: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The temple at the top of the mountain was nothing like the temple in the middle of the city. It was the most beautiful thing Brownie had every seen. It was also made of yellow sand stone but it have been whitened with lime. There was a large gate all white at the top of the stairs and it had probably be cleaned especially for the festival because it was shining in the sunlight to the point it was hard on the eyes to look at it. Josh peered bellow his glasses lifting them up before putting them back down on his nose. Brownie was impressed. She hadn't thought it could be like that. There was no pictures in Samantha's book so she had assumed it would be like the ones at the bottom, probably smaller but in fact it was even larger. After the gate, the stairs also turned to white, they were smooth and rather slippery. On the side of the stairs the small bushes were replaced by white growing crystal that didn't seem natural in this environment.

"Nobody knows where the crystal come from," Samantha said. "Apparently if you break a piece, it will grow back in less than an hour."

"I guess that depends on the size," Josh said.

"Well a large piece is probably hard to break anyway," Samantha said. She approached to the crystal and Brownie followed her. The aquamarine pulsing on her chest as if it recognised something.

Samantha broke a little piece not even as big at her little finger's nail. The crystal started to grow back in the exact same shape. Brownie stroke her eyes, there was something magical about this crystal for sure but she had no idea what it was.

"If you want a little piece, it's better to get one from the floor," Josh said a larger piece of crystal in hand. "It's not as alive as the one you directly break but it's what the crystal wants to give you."

"The crystal is a thing," Samantha said. "It doesn't want to give you anything."
