Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 300

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“Are you insane? You can’t behave like this with mad horses, they could have killed you.” Alexej greeted me.

“They could have,” I answered.
The inn keeper jumped on his feet and threw himself at the carriage door. His lady had been shocked but was unharmed.
“Take care of the horses,” I said to Alexej.
“I don’t know how to thank you,” the inn keeper said coming toward me still holding his wife around the waist.
“Prepare some hot wine, Irina and your lady have been both pretty shocked by the event. The wolves might be close as well, it would be wise to be careful with the doors and keep the horses safe in the stable,” I answered.
I looked around to make sure that there was nothing more I could do. Alexej was taking care of the horses which seemed a little reluctant to follow him. I noted to myself that I needed to have a serious talk with him about the reason why he was fleeing Praha, I remember the cadaver which hadn’t been killed by vampires at the dead hospital. It seemed now that it was more of my problem than it had been then, they could have been attacked by a wolf, I noted again that I should have been more careful and that in the future I wouldn’t let anything of the kind pass in front of me without being carefully investigated. I needed my spirit tranquillity to be able to continue my journey, doubting the people traveling with or working for me wasn’t an option or a risk I wanted to take. I walked back inside, I still had to reassure Irina. She was in a dreaded state when I left her. I had overestimated her fear of the dragons, it was something I really needed to take more seriously now. I was starting to get tired of all the trouble humans’ emotions were bringing to me. It wasn’t something I needed but by choosing a victim so young and perturbed, I had signed up for the trouble at the same time.

Thursday Fiction 289: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

"Something like that, more like another version of you who doesn't feel itchy," I said.

I couldn't lie to her. I couldn't built trust if I was lying to her and she was me, that would be like lying to myself. I wonder if my mother also had that problem in my world or if it was just a part of her genetic code that was activated in this particular universe. There was no dust in my mother's house. There was no clothes out of the closet. There was no paper on the tables. Ok, granted my mother might has well have a little bit of cleaning madness going on on the top of controlling me but nothing like what I had seen in Julie's memory.

"So tell me what to do," Julie said.

"Think about what is the best, find an example and do the same," I said.

"But it won't stop itching," she answered.

That was a tricky one. I wanted to tell her to live with it but I knew I wouldn't be able to. I would probably be scratching my head right now if it wasn't for her dad hugging her.

"Let's go home," he said.

I nodded against his chest and he let go of me. My first reaction was to take my hand to my ear but I forced it down.

"Itchy," Julie said.

"I know. But it's the enemy we have to beat, then we've gotta start fighting it," I said.

"I'll try," Julie said.

Wednesday Snippet 292: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

This week we are with Torsti and Odeon.

“They why don't we just go in town and get a map or ask around?” Torsti said.

“I saw what happened last time we went, and beside, we can't possibly get a map of the underground, they use it because nobody else knows about it,” Odeon answered.

“Then let's capture one of this guy or follow one like you suggested at first,” Torsti said.

Odeon sighed, it was difficult enough to read the smashed ground, he didn't need to have to entertain his brother with chit-chat at the same time.

“Why don't you go explore the environs to see if you find something while I dive a little bit deeper?” He said sitting on the ground in lotus position and trying to relax.

“Yeah, I'll do that,” Torsti said putting his hammer back on his shoulder and walking away in the direction where he had seen Lonan being taken away. He just needed to follow the collapsed ground. The guy who had made the earthquake was really something even though he hadn't been part of the first fight. Torsti once again started to wonder who these people were and why they ended up in a cave to save a human.

Odeon closed his eyes and took a deep breathe. He was finally alone in the forest, the wind was caressing his cheek, it wasn't hot, nor cold, it was the start of Autumn, a season he particularly like because in the North where he came from it meant that the winter was coming with it's heavy snow and days sitting nearby the fire in the center of their house.

He placed both hands flat on the ground in front of him and sensed the texture of the ground, the stones and the earth just like his father had taught him. The earth had a story, a memory and was always talking to who wanted to listen, his father had said. Odeon needed to listen first before he could ask to the earth what he needed to know. He breathed slowly, trying to take the rhythm of the nature surrounding him. It started slowly with the ground getting warm on his skin, the dust moving around his hand, the wave from the ground propagating into his arms to his entire body, inviting him to get deeper and deeper in communion with earth. A flow of images passed in his consciousness, a lot of blood, a lot of tears, a lot of pain. He could hear the dead crying, it was almost unbearable, the dead crying, prisoners of the ground unable to reached up to be saved and to be reborn.

Tuesday Travel 82: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"Here," Samantha said. She handed Josh's tube of sun cream to Brownie.

It strangely smelled like coconut which seemed to be a weird smell for Josh to have.

She took a little bit in her palm and placed it on her skin, it was cold.

"Don't forget the back of your neck," Josh said. "People always forget the back of their neck."

He took a blue cap with a flame design at the front and a lion on the side out of his bag and put it on his head making most of his short blond hair disappear.

Samantha rose and eyebrow.

"Where did you get that?"

"At the train station yesterday, it looks cool, it's practical and it makes a good souvenir," Josh said.

Brownie gave him back his sun cream tube and he put it in his bag, picking up some sunglasses. He looked one hundred percent like a tourist now. Brownie took another sip of her cold drink. The bottle was wet all around and she didn't like the feeling of the water on her hand. She took a few tissu papers on the stand next to her and put them around her bottle. They were socked immediately.

"With that temperature, the drink don't stay cold too long, we better drink that up and keep going," Samantha said.

Brownie didn't feel like drink her entire bottle just now. She didn't mind too much if it turned at ambient temperature. She added new tissues papers around her bottle and put it in her bag away from anything that might be damage by a bit of water.

They continued behind the parade. They were people everywhere around them but the procession with the lion and the dance was now further away. Samantha wanted to catch up for some reasons but Josh kept on dragging his feet by looking at every stand around.

"What do you say we ditch him?" Samantha said.

"I don't know," Brownie said.
