About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last time

"I think I kind of need that."
"If you're too tired for the climb, you can always try to find me," Josh said.
"I think I can manage," Brownie said.
She had rather good shoes. She had almost wanted to take her high heals with her but had decided for a very comfortable pair of walking shoes at the last moment. The old her would have gone with Marri and Sandy for a shopping trip in high heals, stopping at cafe for a drink and some pastry, looking at all the store and buying things for her and maybe for her sisters. But the new her had something to learn from this new place. It was a strange feeling to be sitting in a group people so different from each other and once again she was choosing different than who she believed her true self to be. Why was that? What was pushing her forward to a 18 kilometers walk through a city she didn't know, maybe danger at a demon cave and visiting old temple? She didn't know. It was as if learning magic had created a shift inside of her. If anything, she was just curious.

Brownie woke up really early the next morning. There was no breakfast ready at that time so she went back to the hostel that smelled like pastry. The same man greeted her, still in his apron. He had dark circle under his eyes and she wondered if he had been baking all night.
"Hey, so you found a place to stay?"
"Yes, I'm at the back-packers," Brownie said.
"That's good to hear. We'll deliver there in one hour," he said.

Mystery Monday 77: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

Chemistry, I know a little, mainly inorganic chemistry and theoretical chemistry. Something that complicated, I had trouble to put my mind to it. There were too many parameters to take into account to understand anything from the first reading but my brain was already visualizing the molecules slowly turning in three dimensional spaces.

I can do that, I can see things in three dimensions in my head. That’s what got me the best grades in molecular physics all those years when I was still a student. I didn’t need to draw the molecule on paper, I would just fix a point in the air in front of me and the molecule would take shape there and I would turn it and fold it and look at it and directly see all the symmetries. It was easy. Organic molecules were working in the same way but they were huge. And you didn’t have much symmetries to take care of; the interesting part was their properties. I wasn’t too sure about it but it seemed to me that some of those were synthetic, humanly created new organic molecules.

WeWriWar 334: The House at the Crossing 40

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!
It's been a while since I last participated. My blog has been quite empty for the past weeks (months). Hopefully, things will get back on track really soon.

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first come into the House. It's suppose to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last time !

Good for her really, I miss this part of me. This time, I look at her and she doesn't smile, she is staring at Teresa. She means business, she wants answers and I'm sure as hell going to let her get them for us.

Teresa smiles and bring her mug of tea back to her thin lips. This time she tilt the mug enough to drink and I take that as a cue the beverage has cooled down.
“As a guardian,” Teresa said while placing her mug carefully back on the table. “You will learn and understand the different universes, you will feel what is there and how much you are missing.”
“But what are we guarding?” My other self asked again.
“The doors to the realms of course,” Aunt Teresa said.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 290

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time

I decided to take the first room and Irina had the room in front of the next on the opposite side of the corridor. They were rather larger than I expected. My window showed the forest, it was a full size window from the floor and stopping one meter before the ceiling and there was a balcony. I would have left it to Irina if she wasn’t so scared of the forest.

She was back at clinging at my arm and it was starting to be bothersome. Even if there were dragons roaming around, she wasn’t in an immediate danger. I almost felt the desire to bite her right here and now to make her calm down but I didn’t like anxious blood that much.

The little man left us to prepare breakfast and told us that it would take him about one hour as he wasn’t expecting guests. As soon as he left the room, Irina left my side to sit on the bed. She seemed exhausted. Her shoulders were raised up with tension as if she feared for her neck and she was pale again. I sat near her to take her pulse but she removed her wrist and held it with her right hand.
“We can’t stay here, there are dragons nesting, it’s far too dangerous, let’s get going to the next village after breakfast,” she said nervously, her voice was trembling.
“We can’t move now, I have things to do in the city,” I said.
“You are intending to go out,” she said looking up at me her voice had a taint of hysteria that I had never heard from her before.
“Yes, why not. We will rest today and visit the city tomorrow, you need new clothes, yours are way too thin for this weather and it will be winter soon,” I said.

I wanted to calm her down and I knew that talking about clothes was a good way to change women’s bad thoughts.
