Mystery Monday 72: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

“No way!” This was the strong voice and the intensity of it shook me out of my thoughts just in time to understand the question of my old policeman.
“What can I do for you?” he said.
I hesitated. I knew why I was hesitating but I was a foreigner so he couldn’t know if I was hesitating because of poor language skills or for any other reasons. I looked around a bit embarrassed before realizing that I was still nervously playing with the memory stick. I dug it deep in my jeans’ pocket.

Idoll in time of COVID: My first time as a seller

Yesterday was my first idoll as a seller! I tried to go to two events before, once in March and then in May but they were both canceled because of COVID. This time, I managed to get a booth for the first day of the Tokyo idoll.
Because of COVID, there were some heavy restrictions. The row of tables were very far apart so that there were a lot less rows than usual. We also needed some distancing between the booth instead of having them next to each other, which means that there were a lot less sellers per row.
It was a very strange idoll. Unfortunately, a lot of sellers weren't there and a lot of booths were empty. There weren't many customers either. I had the time to go around the entire festival which I wouldn't have had if it had been a normal day. As you will see, when before I had enough pictures for 2 sometimes even 3 videos, this time I barely had enough for this one video.

After idoll, on the way back home, we stopped in Akihabara for sushi so I took the opportunity to go to the Azone store. They didn't have any expo but they had a lot of new display. They changed the organisation of the store again.

Here is the vlog of the day.

And here are some pictures of my booth at the event.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 287

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

The inn Alexej had chosen was on the north west edge of the city. I feel like Alexej was already preparing to continue to the North like an escape. Just like Irina, he was still a mystery for me and even tough his choices mostly fitted with mine, they were also making me feel uncomfortable. I knew what I was fleeing from and I knew that danger but not knowing what was coming up for Irina and what Alexej was obviously fleeing from was annoying me.
The inn was near a small wood, it still was dark enough for anything to be hiding in there and Irina frowned at it when walking out of the carriage.
“Why are we staying in the wood again? It’s filled with robbers willing to cut your throat for a loaf of bread and wolves devouring little kids,” she said.
It seemed to me that Alexej’s nostrils enlarged when she said the word wolf but I might have been mistaken because he smiled and answered to her in the happiest tone I had ever heard from him.
“It is relaxing for the horses to walk in the nature, they will be happy to stay near the trees, animals are not afraid from the woods, only foolish humans are and there is no wolf in this side of the city, wolves had been exterminated long ago.”
The extermination of the wolves gave me a chill. People here weren’t only against vampires but there were also wolves exterminator and I was both. I swore I was going to lock myself sick in my room for three days during the full moon, my only concern was really Irina. I couldn’t let her find out more about myself, she already knew a lot more than she should have because of the diary. I resolved to drunk enough of her blood to make her stay in bed during my transformation.
I pushed the door of the inn to notice that there was nobody in the dining room. At this time of the day it would have been filled with people who were too drunk to go home the night before or having breakfast to continue with their day as soon as the sun was up. The bell tinted again as Irina closed the door behind us. Alexej wanted to take care of the horses and had promised to get our luggage to our rooms later.

Thursday Fiction 277: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Image by Colin Behrens from Pixabay
Let's start right where we left off last week.

The nurse looked at me, as if intrigued and sat on the edge of the bed.
"What did she do to you? Did she hit you?"
"No," I said. I wasn't sure but I had no prove of anything, I didn't even know if the marks on my other self's body were from the fire or from something else. "She just talks," I said after a pause.
"I think you might need to go and see one of our psychologist," the nurse said. "I know you already have to cope with the fire and so you are already seeing one but I think you might need a little extra to deal with your mother. How would you like I get someone for her too?"
She won't go, she never wanted to go. The thoughts hit me so strongly that I had to close my eyes.
"I'll take them but don't tell my mother about it," I said.
My other self seemed to relax.
"Alright, I think you can decide about what your mother should know later," the nurse said. "Are you going to be alright now?"
"Yes," I said.
She stood up and left. I rolled myself in a ball under my blanket, my knees high on my chest. I never did that before but it seems that my body was calling for it. I wondered if I could speak to my other self but thoughts that weren't mine came to my ears.
"I know you're here, I feel different, I can hear the things you said, the way you call me your other self. My name is Frederique and I know it's crazy to hear voices in my head and I don't really want you here all the time but I think I need to say thank you for making her go away. I can't make her go away myself. I can't make her stop talking to me and I don't want to hear her anymore."
