Wednesday Snippet 279: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“Oh, I like this place, they collected bodies in boxes. I wish Odeon and Torsti could let me do that at home. I can never do anything really, they are as boring as you but as they are my brothers, I have to stay with them and take care of them, it's really tiring,” Lonan said. “Do you want to go take a look? Maybe your thing is here too, they kind of gathered funny looking things. There is a guy who looks just like Torsti and they have some....”
“Will you shut it or do I have to knock you out?” Kamaril asked looking inside of the room.
There were rows of boxes with demons prisoners of blue water. He tried to remember in which direction he had seen himself and the trident.
“All right,” Lonan said placing his hands bellow his head and entering the room without a care.
Kamaril sighed and entered after him. They couldn't be too far, they didn't walk much in the room after he had seen the trident when they had been taking him to his cell.
He listened trying to hear the voices of the ones they called masters but everything was quiet except for Lonan kicking a stone in front of him as he walked.
Kamaril turned left letting Lonan go straight without a word. If one of them was to be caught in here at least there would be a chance for the other to escape and he had no doubt that he would be the one escaping. It was a shame that he had to get rid of Lonan this way but escaping with a kid like him didn't seem feasible.

Tuesday Travel 68: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"So beings only matter if they are sentient according to your definition? Because you can't talk to them and understand them and they don't make noise you can kill them as much as you want but if they have four legs and a heart beat you can't," Samantha said.
"Exactly, killing animal is unethical," Marri answered.
"That's what I really can't stand with people like you," Samantha said. "You pretend to be all better than others and so ethical and good when in fact you have no compassion what so ever for any being that don't match your criteria."
"It's not their criteria," Samuel said trying to defend his girlfriend. "They are just following the mainstream ethical think."
"Well, they can do it with their plate and they don't need to complain about what they didn't get," Samantha answered.
Brownie's house was a bit of a stormy place at time but it was never really arguing for the sake of arguing. The people she was with right now didn't match at all. Samuel was eating meat but still defended his vegetarian girlfriend and Marri, who were complaining about some food that they didn't eat. It was ridiculous and Samantha seemed to always have a point to make, somehow she was belligerent and at the same time she was right most of the time.
"And how do you like your stew?" Josh asked her across the table. It sort of diffused the tension by bringing all eyes on her.
"I like it," she said.
Samantha gave her a "that's my girl smile", Marri shook her head.
"I thought you were cool but I don't think I can ever associate with someone who like killing animals," Sandy said.
Brownie wonder if the change of heart was due to her using her barrier earlier.
"Congratulation Sam. You're single," Josh said.

Mystery Monday 71: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

Just give the memory stick to the policeman and you can go wash your hands of it, good riddance,” the voice in my head said. That was the same voice saying so happily that my ex-boyfriend was going to be back in two days begging me to take him back. “And brush teeth, ten times, to even forget about the kiss,” it added as if that would be enough.
I could still feel Seiji's lips on mine, or maybe I was just imagining that I did.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 286

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

Irina was sleeping and softly snoring all night in the carriage with her cat on her lap. I had heard human sleep before, most of them made noises while breathing. Sometimes Irina would stop breathing for a long period of time and it always made me worry, a human who doesn’t breath generally dies quickly but she finally started to breath with a normal rythm again. The cat also made noises when sleeping. I thought it might be dreaming and wonder if I was also that noisy.

The city was beautiful but there weren’t enough people in the street and it felt strange to me. At that time of the morning in Paris or Praha, the streets would have been animated but in here there was almost nobody to be seen. The shop keepers didn’t seem ready to open their doors yet. The entire atmosphere of the city gave me a chill. Something was clearly wrong. The fog was grey and humid it seemed to be hanging in the air like a cloud ready to fall and float the city with despair. It was too quiet as I opened the window of the carriage to take a better look outside I could only hear the sound of our carriage on the road, the feet of the horses biting the floor, the wells rolling on the uneven ground and the voice of Alexej encouraging the horse. The streets were empty except for the lamp lighter who was starting to extinguish the street lamps as if he was extinguishing the soul of the city. Alexej knew an inn. Irina had said not to let him chose but Alexej seemed to know every corner of the kingdom of Poland just like he knew Bohemia. So of course I let him chose. I had told him that we would stop few weeks in here and he had agreed to find a comfortable place which would also allow him to have a simple room. I didn’t want to have him spend his nights with the horses anymore than necessary. The horses seemed to be more and more nervous, I was thinking that they might be feeling the wolf in me as the mood was starting to get bigger and bigger. I could feel it. I hoped our stay in Krakow would be without incident but it seemed that the incident had preceded us.
