Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 262

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

“There is no need to fight, the wise doesn’t fight and more than that he knows how to choose his battles. You have seen them like I have, they are strong, smart, there are more of them. They changed humans into vampires for centuries and they taught them. The humans we changed are just slaves raised for pleasure and pain. We are losing strength, the new era is coming, there hasn’t been a born vampire after you because of the poverty of our blood, after so long, it runs out. You uncle will fall, if not this time, soon after and I don’t want you to fall with him, you will carry our hopes in this world just like this Dylan carries the hopes of his clan. It is dangerous for both of you to be part of the war to come, ally with him if you can and fight for your life.” My father said, “I am too weak, I have been weakening for year and I can’t take to see you become like me.”
“You’re not weak, nobody can take on you with the sword, even three of them would never get you,” I said full of confidence but I saw something break in my father’s heart, it was readable on his face, and a part of me knew it.
“It’s not about fighting, it’s about spirit. I haven’t fought for anything I believe in for way too long.”
The door opened as he finished his sentence. We were usually the only one training in this room but today the others had decided it was time to pull they sword out of their furrows too. My dad put a hand on my shoulder, in was heavy with sorrow.
“Go on ahead, you trained enough for today and you have a lot to think about, I’ll train a bit more with the other,” he said.
The others were cheering on each other, as if there were happy for the new action to come and for the first time, I was scared. There was nothing to rejoice about, hadn’t it be for the chat I just had with my father I would have been one of them. Now I felt the pressure. Some of them were going to die, maybe my father, the castle could be taken leaving us without shelter when the sun rose again, the villagers would also die and we would have nothing to feed on. Dylan said that they would stop use from reaching the village, so we would have to feed in turn and that would weaken us. Still, they seemed to be happy and so sure of themselves. I could see that this was a war that we were going to lose.

Thursday Fiction 256: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.
Let's start right where we left off last week.

"And I believe you told me for a reason and that you didn't tell Amy about it, so... tell me what you need from me and don't tell her anything." "Why do you believe me Alex?" I asked.
"Because, that's how she called me. My real mother, she wanted to call be Fin, my father changed it to Alex when he remarried. He wanted nothing left of her. I shouldn't have those memory I was three years old when she died but I remember her calling me that and I found a picture in my teddy bear. Amy doesn't know any of it," Alex said.
I had so many question now, I couldn't take my eyes of him.
"Please, tell me my mum is ok in another universe," he said.
"I'm sorry Alex... I never met her, she theoretically is but I can't know for sure," I said.
He put his head back against the seat as if he was going to sink into it.
"I don't understand," I said.
"She died, that's all. My father thought that it would be better for all of us if we believed his new wife was our real mother. I think in a way he is right. If Amy knew while we were in high-school, it would have just increase the drama and her rebellious act, it would have justify everything she was going through, like "you suck because you are not my mother, you prefer Alex because you are not my mother", I can already see her say that. My mother put a picture under my teddy bear's jumper. It might have been something between her and me. Under it says "little Fin doesn't need to be scared because Mummy is always with him." That's why I know that my memories are real, because I have a prove, in the physical world and because now you called me Fin again. I talked to my dad about it once and he told me that I could be a good writer with that kind of idea, but I have my original birth certificate too, I found one in his desk. Same birthday but Fin written on it. It's funny isn't it. People trying so hard to be normal, so hard to forget but always having little clues around."
He looked at me with pain in his eyes and I wanted to hug him, to tell him I knew what it was like but I couldn't do it because that's not what he needed right now.

Wednesday Snippet 258: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

Odeon landed behind a bush just in front of the hidden demon.
“I'm feeling extremely depressed and you interrupted me while I was taking it on my brother, now I'm going to have to take it on you,” he said.
The other demon looked at him standing up, half vacillating on his feet. He was wearing one of the Hunter's black robe with the upside down bleeding christian cross on his chest. He was a Hunter, there was no way to mistake him for anything else. But he looked afraid which puzzled Odeon a bit but didn't mean that he was going to be more pleasant.
“What do you want from me,” he said menacing taking a step forward. The demon threw another fire balls but Odeon stopped it with the palm of his hand the fireball seemed to be absorbed and only white smoke remained for a little bit in the air as Odeon stepped closer. It was obvious that the demon was no match for him, Odeon wondered why they even bother to start an attack when it was only three of them. He decided to stay alerted, just in case they had time to call for reinforcement.
“One way or another, you are going to tell me everything I want to know so you can either sit down and start now or we can have a little bit more fun, you chose,” Odeon said.
The demon seemed to be considering his options looking around him from the corner of his eyes as if he was looking for something, someone, or maybe a way to escape.
“You can't escape,” he said walking back.
“What?” Odeon asked.
“You can't escape, all the gods are going to die and be reborn in their new body to serve the Hunters cause, you can't escape your fate,” the demon said mechanically as if he had been repeated his text many time to give himself strength maybe.

Tuesday Travel 47: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

There was a woman behind the counter who could have been a demon herself, she was build like a body builder and Brownie couldn't help but check if she had horns on the top of her head before even saying anything.
"How can I help you?" The very feminine voice surprised Brownie and she came back to her senses with a she-can-see-me-not-a-demon though. Maybe demons only stayed near the entrances to the demon world because so far, since she had left, she hadn't see one.
"Hello, I would like a room," Brownie said.
"Do you have a reservation? The woman answered.
"No", Brownie said.
"Well the festival is a busy season here, we don't have anything," the woman said.
"Thank you," Brownie answered.
"You really won't find anything so close from the city center, you better go far off," the woman said.
"Thank you, I'll try," Brownie answered.
The woman shock her head and took her seat back.
Brownie walked out and took a few steps toward the next hostel. This one was complete fire everything red and yellow. It was getting a bit hard for Brownie to deal with the fire obsession in here.
She pushed the half opened door and walked in. As much as the walls of the previous hostel were bare, this one's were filled up with pamphlet for every single attraction in town and even in the entire region.
"You shouldn't be looking at other people's stuff before saying hello," A tiny old woman with a very bent back said with a scratchy voice.
"Hum," Brownie cleared her throat, "Hello."
The old woman walked up to Brownie pushing hard on her cane and stopped way too close for Brownie to be comfortable. She scrutinized her up and down and Brownie took a step back. Her aquamarine didn't react at all but Brownie felt a sense of danger.
"You're not Micha, are you?" The Old woman answered.
"No, I'm not," Brownie answered.
"Then who are you?"
"Mother, leave the guess alone," a younger woman called from the back and came forward to remove the old woman from Brownie's face.
Even if she hadn't called her mother, Brownie would have guess she was the old woman's daughter. She was her spitting image.
