About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy
but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon
friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a
bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving
people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including
Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a
choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet
other witches.
The excerpt, we start where we left off last week
There was a woman behind
the counter who could have been a demon herself, she was build like a
body builder and Brownie couldn't help but check if she had horns on
the top of her head before even saying anything.
"How can I help
you?" The very feminine voice surprised Brownie and she came
back to her senses with a she-can-see-me-not-a-demon though. Maybe
demons only stayed near the entrances to the demon world because so
far, since she had left, she hadn't see one.
"Hello, I would like
a room," Brownie said.
"Do you have a
reservation? The woman answered.
"No", Brownie
said.
"Well the festival
is a busy season here, we don't have anything," the woman said.
"Thank you,"
Brownie answered.
"You really won't
find anything so close from the city center, you better go far off,"
the woman said.
"Thank you, I'll
try," Brownie answered.
The woman shock her head
and took her seat back.
Brownie walked out and
took a few steps toward the next hostel. This one was complete fire
everything red and yellow. It was getting a bit hard for Brownie to
deal with the fire obsession in here.
She pushed the half
opened door and walked in. As much as the walls of the previous
hostel were bare, this one's were filled up with pamphlet for every
single attraction in town and even in the entire region.
"You shouldn't be
looking at other people's stuff before saying hello," A tiny old
woman with a very bent back said with a scratchy voice.
"Hum," Brownie
cleared her throat, "Hello."
The old woman walked up
to Brownie pushing hard on her cane and stopped way too close for
Brownie to be comfortable. She scrutinized her up and down and
Brownie took a step back. Her aquamarine didn't react at all but
Brownie felt a sense of danger.
"You're not Micha,
are you?" The Old woman answered.
"No, I'm not,"
Brownie answered.
"Then who are you?"
"Mother, leave the
guess alone," a younger woman called from the back and came
forward to remove the old woman from Brownie's face.
Even if she hadn't called
her mother, Brownie would have guess she was the old woman's
daughter. She was her spitting image.
