Thursday Fiction 252: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"So you would define the mind as an entity, like a real thing that would travel from universe to universe," Alex said, "How? because mine hasn't done it, Fred, never, not even once, not even when I'm dreaming."
"I get into the body of my other selves," I said.
"Are you sure you are not in denial? Trying to find a clue about your disease because the doctor and your mother couldn't? I'm sorry but I have trouble to get your point here. You are studying physics because you are interested in the parallel universe interpretation of quantum theory, I get that, you are taking the extra neurobiology classes because you want to know what's wrong with your brain, I get that too. You once said that you love the fainting and that was a hard one to understand but I accepted it but I would for sure try to make sure there is no other explanation to your fainting before even starting to believe that you are traveling to a parallel universe. Remember, we are scientist, the easier explanation is always the best one in most cases."
I wondered if I should push it through or let him sleep on it. I stay silent a little and then I couldn't take it any longer. Nobody ever believed me and I stopped talking about it but Alex had all the explanation in front of him and only missed the travel itself, he had all the cards in hand and he refused to believe me.
"I need to show you one of my diary," I said.
"What for, because you met me in one of your quantum world?"
"I did but stop the car first, you need to read this. When I first went to the party with Amy and Tamara few months back, something happened," I said.
I wasn't really happy to talk about it because Amy and I had agreed that we wouldn't but I couldn't see another way out of this. I needed Alex and there was no turning back, I needed his brain to complement mine.

Wednesday Snippet 254: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

The kids were already showing impatience. Samira raised her head to look at him a bit more as he reached the table.
“What if I am?”
“We have to get out of here,” Sahel said.
“What?” Samira said, she seemed passably angry.
“We have been attacked and Seti asked me to come and get you, I'm taking all of you to a safe place, let's go,” Sahel said turning around expecting her to stand up an follow him instantaneously.
“I'm not going anywhere,” Samira said crossing her arms on her chest and pushing herself toward the back of her sit.
Sahel turned around. Her position might have been painful for her wings but she didn't seem to mind.
“We have to go, I promised the teacher to get the kids to a safe place and I promised your brother to get you to him so we are going now,” Sahel said.
“I didn't want to come here in the first place and I came because it was safe, now you are telling me that you can take me somewhere safer because here is not safe, when is that going to stop? We leave in the demon world there is no safe place,” she said.
“I don't want to share the teacher's place with a spoiled Nephil like her,” one of the kid said.
“If she doesn't want to come she can stay here, nobody cares about her,” another said.
“They came for her anyway, once they get her there won't be any problem for us,” someone else said.
“You all shut up!” Sahel yelled.
He had finally lost his patience. He was tired from the trance and wanted to go home. He had never planned to end up in the middle of a Nephilim-Watcher madness fight leave alone to have to take care of brats like those alone.

Tuesday Travel 43: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

It looked a lot like the vision she had had after the spell so she had been happy when she had done the research and found this book, because it made it clear that her vision had a part of truth. She wasn't sure that the coven still existed but if they did, they were her best bet at solving her problem. She placed the two other books back in her bag, she could afford a little recreation, after all, she had days before reaching Evergreen stop and then she would have to travel through Evergreen to Erhland. She would have time to read the rest later on.
She took a cookie from Viorel's pack and started reading. As a solitary witch, the coven practices were fascinating. If she ever had someone else doing spells with her, she always had trouble to make them concentrate long enough or focus on the right think. Most people were used to Gideon just weaving his wand and getting results so they thought magic was instantaneous and required very little energy. She called it “Abracadabra pouff et voila” mind set from a sentence Antoine was using when teleporting her places. He would always say “Et voila” when they reached their destination whatever that really meant.
But then magic didn't work like that, it took time, perfecting her spell could take days and month, then she needed her ingredients and the right day, the right time in the moon cycle, there was nothing fast with magic, it took dedication and a shear amount of will power.
But having an entire coven with fifty people all turned in the same direction, with the same focus, wanting the same thing, with the exact same visualization at the exact same time. It was hard to believe it was possible, hard to believe that it could exist, that people would agree with each other that much at all time, that not even one person around would have their thoughts moving sideways. But still, it was described in many books she had read. A lot of witches preferred coven to solidary practice. Brownie wasn't sure. It was getting harder and harder for her to collaborate with people, not to get frustrated with everything and everyone. She didn't want to do thing any other different way than hers. She knew it wouldn't help but so far it had worked.
Her favorite character in the book was Azura, she was about her age and she was the one explaining everything happening. It was a bit strange though that she was there no mater the year and still seemed to be the same age. At first it had been a bit annoying but Brownie had finally gotten used to it by thinking that Azura might be a ghost or a being that didn't age or such an awesome witch that she had stopped time for herself or something.

The train stopped at several stations on the way but there wasn't enough time to move get out of the train or do anything. The daylight had turned grey. It wasn't that later but it was Autumn, though the light inside the train hadn't kicked in yet and Brownie couldn't read any longer. She hadn't decided yet if she wanted to just take train after trains without a break to get to Erhland as soon as possible or if she wanted to see the world.
On one hand, a direct trip would take her ten days and she had never been away from Sahel or her family without another family member for so long. On the other hand maybe once everything was fixed and she didn't have to run anymore she would not leave home again. A feeling of claustrophobia set in at the thought. She had never really thought about it before but it seemed like her life had stopped somehow. Everything she ever wanted had vanished, she only reacted and she had completely lost herself and her believe in the world. Her world had been spinning out of control.

Mystery Monday 43: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

He stared at the people he was running from. I was almost certain of it even though I wasn't sure I had see anyone around looking for him. And then he asked me to save him, he took his hands out of his pockets and kissed me. A really intense kiss. Not like a first kiss, but more like a burning kiss. And his hands, where… oh my god, why didn’t have realized that before? I was just so foolish after all. The kiss served only to divert my attention. It wasn’t romantic! He was a pick-pocket! One of his hands held me tight, the other was in my bag.

I reached for my bag in a hurry and turned it up side down, emptying it of its content. I wondered if thievery had been the reason why he was pursued and I somehow helped him escape because stealing these guys hadn't been enough for him, he wanted something from me too.
