Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 312

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.

Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.

We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.

Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“Are you insane? You can’t behave like this with mad horses, they could have killed you.” Alexej greeted me.

The inn keeper jumped on his feet and threw himself at the carriage door. His lady had been shocked but was unharmed.

“Take care of the horses,” I said to Alexej.
“I don’t know how to thank you,” the inn keeper said coming toward me still holding his wife around her waist.
“Prepare some hot wine, Irina and your lady have been both pretty shocked by the event. The wolves might be close as well, it would be wise to be careful with the doors and keep the horses safe in the stable,” I answered.

I looked around to make sure that there was nothing more I could do. Alexej was taking care of the horses which seemed a little reluctant to follow him. I noted to myself that I needed to have a serious talk with him about the reason why he was fleeing Praha, I remember the cadaver which hadn’t been killed by vampires at the dead hospital. It seemed now that it was more of my problem than it had been by them, they could have been attacked by a wolf, I noted again that I should have been more careful by then and that in the future I wouldn’t let anything of the kind pass in front of me without being carefully investigated. I needed my spirit tranquillity to be able to continue my journey, doubting the people travelling with or working for me wasn’t an option or a risk I wanted to take. I walked back inside, I still had to reassure Irina. She was in a dreaded state when I left her. I had overestimated her fear of the dragons, it was something I really needed to take more seriously now. I was starting to get tired of all the trouble humans’ emotions were bringing to be. It wasn’t something I really needed but by choosing a victim so young and perturbed, I had signed up for the trouble at the same time.

Thursday Fiction 302: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes. 

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.  

 

"We always have a choice," Michelle said.
"Then you can chose to work with me to understand thing instead of against me," I said.
"You are the one withdrawing information," she answered.
"You've got all my memories, what more are you hoping to get, and I don't have any of yours," I answered.
She said something but her voice was so weak that I couldn't catch the words. I tried to grab her in my mind to make her stay with me but she didn't hold on to me and she was gone. I couldn't feel her anywhere, it was like a normal slip. I was all alone in her body and I didn't know where she was anymore. I should have freaked a bit but all I could do was feeling relieved. I arrived at the command room. The girls were there riding the bikes in front of their control panel. I walked between the bikes, stopped for a moment looking at them and continued to the glass panel. The stars were all around. Traveling in a space ship was like moving in a night sky. I couldn't stop watching.
"Something is wrong? Captain," Clara asked after a moment.
"I'm in Michelle's body and she hates me for it. It's like whatever I do whether I'm in control of it or not, somebody is going to hate me."
"She wanted to be on Tucker's good side," Clara said.
"We like you, we don't like Michelle much but we like you," Debby said.
"You might not want to say anything about that in front of me," I said turning back to look at her. I still had the strange urge to protect these girls. "She has apparently access to my entire memory while I'm here with you," I finished.
"You think she is doing it on purpose, calling you here to see it all and to have it all, all your knowledge, everything..."

Wednesday Snippet 305: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.     

We are at the house and people are discussing Isakael's behaviour. 

“It might not be a bad idea,” Viorel answered laughing but Isakael didn't share the good mood.
The vampire walked out of the room turning the little blue pill Isakael had just given him in his finger. So he wasn't mistaken something bad was also happening in the Angel World. This World was becoming insane if the Angels started to make pact with the demons, anything could happened and where demons were involved, anything generally meant something really bad.

Isakael climbed up the stairs to the second floor. He was rarely coming up here on the girls floor. He generally preferred to stay in his room. He stopped in front of a door where stars were drawn and the name Saphira written. He knocked at the door softly.
“Come in,” a feminine voice said from the inside.
He pressed on the handle and pushed the door, it was the only door in the house that didn't made any noise when you opened it. The curtains were closed and the main light turned of. In the center of the room, two lamps were sending pictures of stars on the walls and ceilings.
“Can I turn on the light?” Isakael said.
“Do as you want but I would rather stay this way,” Saphira said.
She was sitting on the floor at the foot of the bed with a map of the fairy world that the other had probably drawn from their trips there and a pendulum in her hand.
Isakael entered the room in the dark and sat in front of her. Kallisto had spread some fairy powder on the map and Isakael wondered if it would help.

Tuesday Travel 95: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week 

"I want to eat a real meal, I can't stay all day on just breakfast food," Josh argued and he followed her. Brownie stayed a bit longer looking at the carvings before joining them. The sign were turning in her mind. There was definitely something there, something she too wanted to know.

She saw Samantha grab a pamphlet and she went to grab it too. There was a small history of the lion on the first third, then on the second part they talked about the renovation and the whitening for the festival which happened twice a year, once in spring and the second in autumn, thought the spring festival was way smaller and had a lot more to do with flowers than with lions. Then on the last part it talked about the crystals and the tree. There was nothing much more than in Samantha's book but Brownie decided to keep it, especially because she didn't have a way to take a picture of the place. Josh had been taking picture like crazy with his camera now that they finished the climb permanently hanging around his neck. She wondered if she could ask him to send the pictures to her but then, she reminded herself that once she was out of Fireden, she would probably never see him again.

Samantha walked away back to the tree and took notes of the carving. Brownie stayed a bit longer looking at other pamphlet that seemed interesting, like the history of the festival and why it was so much different up here. There wasn't much though and nothing about the carving which seemed strange.
