Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 411

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? 

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.

Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

 

 

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

 

Blood started to leak from Alexei's ear. He had to have a bad brain injury. I looked at it fixedly and stopped listening to Jorge's talk. It was nonsensical anyway. I needed a way out of here or Alexei was going to die soon. He was breathing strangely.

"I think you owe to take care of him," I said.

"Why are you so concern about the wolf?" Jorge asked.

"The blood is leaking from his ear, it makes me hungry, I don't know what I might do, hunger gives me power," I said.

Once again that was a blatant lie but I didn't know what else to do.

"Yes, it seems that you are a lot less discriminate with what you drink than the other vampires I captured before you, we had to use a lot more sophisticated tricks to get them to drink anything," Jorge said.

"How is the boy?" I knew it was dead but I wanted the people around Jorge to know that I wasn't the one who had killed him. It might not make a difference or it might make all the difference in the world.

"He is dead," Jorge said.

Thursday Fiction 401: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

 

Whatever this was, it was as dangerous outside than inside. It turned on itself and Isabelle was grateful for Nanurah to have gotten everything to her wrist. If she had ever had that ball out with bits in her head, who knew what sort of damage they would have done coming out of her brain. 

 

The towel was damped with blood when she finally stop looking at the ball and placed it on the side of the sink. She needed to stop the blood now, everything was out. She started with the cut which was the most important. She disinfected with the rest of synthol she found in a drawer, it was sticky but it did the trick and put a large aid-band on it, and some gauze. It was still painful. She tried to move her fingers but the small motion throw electricity all the way to her shoulder. 

 

She had to remind herself it wasn't a deep cut and that it would be back to normal in a few days not to panic. She then took of her pajama top and took care of the little holes the metal had left in the rest of her arm. They were very small and round but still bleeding or leaking some sort of yellow water. She put small aid-band on all of them too, just for the show. She had no one to show them too, of course, but looking at herself in the mirror she did not only look scary anymore, she looked like a warrior.

Wednesday Snippet 403: Fairy World 44

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week.

"You looked pale, suddenly, like if you had seen a Fae," Amarelis said.

 

"Aren't you a Fae?" Deborah said.

 

"No, I'm a fairy, the Fae disappeared long ago," Amarelis said, "Here, let me help you." 

 

"What do you mean disappeared?" Deborah said. It was hard for her to control her curiosity even though she didn't really wanted to know. 

 

"I'm not sure, it was way before anything actually exist." 

 

Deborah opened big eyes but said nothing hoping for more useless information that never came. She reminded herself that she didn't want to know but "before anything actually exist" made her think about the big bang and how Ezechiel had told her that it was a lie and how it had been hard on her to believe that god had created everything. 

 

"Who created the fairies?" she asked biting her tongue.

 

"The stars, we all come from the stars, humans too," Amarelis said. "So, where is your friend?" 

 

"I'm not sure, but it was a long way to come here from somewhere higher up that smells funny," Deborah said.

Tuesday Travel 199: Witch Raising: The Book of Earth 46

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. This week we are following Brownie on her journey as she is going toward the second element: Earth.

 

 

About Witch Raising.

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt starts right where we left off last week.

“The changes in criminal investigation as a comparative study of novels by British writers in the 19^th and 20^th century,” Margarethe said.

Brownie had no idea what that meant. She might have read a few detective novels in the past but she wouldn't even have thought that comparing them could be a thing.

“I'm sorry, I'm still in high school,” Brownie said. “How does it work? What do you have to do?”

“I read the novel, compare the criminal mind at work in the characters as well as the mind of the detective to trace psychological portrait of them and see if there is a correlation between the criminals and the people trying to stop them. It's at the border between literature and psychology, it requires knowledge in both fields. I see if there is an evolution on how the criminal mind was perceived and if it can lead to some clues about the evolution of crime today. I still haven't decided if I will pursue the study toward more contemporary novels or if I want to dig into historical account of crime in the 19^th and 20^th century to see how accurate the description by the authors were,” Margarethe answered.
